How to make FB comments crawlable by Google? <noscript>?</noscript>
-
We get tons of FB comments, but it's all in iframe, so Google doesn't give us any credit for it.
We found a solution - turn all the comments into HTML and hide it from readers with
<noscript>. </p> <p> </p> <p>Will this help? I heard that Google considers <noscript> a scammy practice. Is that true?</p> <p>How do you guys make your FB comments SEO friendly?</p> <p> </p></noscript>

Hi! Do you use Wordpress? There is a plugin out there: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/crawlable-facebook-comments/ although I haven't used it personally.
Additionally, here's the post that Francisco mentioned previously: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/make-facebook-comments-box-indexable-by-search-engines.
I believe both options do the same thing, just that one is a plugin for Wordpress.
Hope that helps!

There is a post on youmoz about it, but it seemed a little shaky. This ws about 6 months ago though. Sorry, I don't have an answer.

Thanks, we already get links from FB comments as you described and my content is kickass. Now I want to move beyond that and get my visitors' comments crawled by Google.
Consider setting up Thumbnails for your pages, you will get more clicks from FB links then

I use Facebook Comments on almost every webpage on my site. Yes it's an iFrame, but I stick my URL in the Facebook Comments so it counts as a link and people are "talking" about me.
Here's my proof. Run OSE on my contact page: http://www.shipoverseas.com/us/contact-us.html I have 57 FB Shares and 0 Likes (because I don't have a Like button on that page).
Then run OSE on my home page: 68 Shares 167 Likes.
Google knows that people are "talking" about me on my contact page. But in reality it's me slapping my URL into the reply.
My point is "if" you are trying to turn FB comments into HTML with noscript to rank higher (because that's what you're really trying to do), you don't need to do it. Write kickass content and more people will leave Facebook Comments and keep slapping your URLs in there.
I think I should write a YouMoz Post about this.

News site and duplicate/cannibalism/old
Hey everybody. I am working with a handful of medical news websites and some of these sites are rather large. I am noticing/suspecting there is some cannibalism going on here. How do news sites deal with this? Do they noindex the old stuff? Update the old stuff instead of writing a new piece all together? Curious what to do!

Is it bad to include google Maps in footer?
We have 5 locations and we were thinking about including a map for each location in the footer. These would be set-up as no-follow links. They could potentially enhance user experience but it also increases size of footer. Right now there are just basic links to pages (sitemap, terms, etc), contact info, social links, and contact form. If we did the maps it would also include link to the individual location pages. Not sure if we are doing too much in footer or need to just keep it basic. Thanks for the help!

Google showing my content on the serps in a different domain
Hi all, Recently a partner of ours discovered that Google is showing a meta description on the serps for his homepage that is not his but ours. On his site, he sells add-ons for our software, so the name of our software appears many times and as well there are many links pointing to our site. He claims he hasn´t copied this text from us, and I have used some tools to verify this. I don´t understand how Google can get confused and show our text as the meta desctiption on the serps for his homepage. Any idea on why this happened?

Blog Comment IPs Seen By Google?
I have a page on a client's site for testimonials (a dental practice). The page is actually a post on a Wordpress install where customers can enter their testimonials as WP comments. In an effort to encourage more clients to give more testimonials I was considering setting up an iPad or other tablet at the receptionist's desk where patients would be able to enter their successes as comments on the page. If I made sure the patients all used unique names and emails in the Wordpress comments, would Google still see all the comments are from the same IP and view this as suspicious?

Streaming Google Places Reviews
Google no longer lets users pull an iframe of places reviews. I can't find a plugin for wordpress that will do this either. Any suggestions on how to show Google places reviews on your website? Or... should we blow it off and just go with yelp / City Search reviews?
