Popup windows are coming up as 404 error in moz reports.
-
We have several links showing up as 404 errors because of the way our site is set up.
I want to know if this is hurting our ranking because Google sees it as 404 errors or is it just something I can ignore because it works for the user?
If it is hurting our quality and therefore our rankings, how can I correct it so that best practices are used?
I have attached an image of the links and here is an example page --> http://www.sourcemedicalequipment.com/Perch-Polyurethane-Industrial-Stool-18-25-p/idst2.htm
The links in the description section have anchor text "All 3 Choices" and result in a popup information page. If you cut and paste the URL's that they are redirecting to end in a 404 but if you use the link on the page it results in a popup information window.
Hope I explained that well. Thanks for your help!

Hi Ben,
Sorry for the late response - hope the question is still relevant to you.
Short answer - yes, this could cause a problem, depending on how many 404's you are creating. The first thing you want to do is check with Google Webmaster Tools. Look at your Crawl Error report and see if Google is also reporting these URLs as 404'ing - my suspicion is that they are.
Is it just one URL that is 404'ing, or several? If it's only one, that you realistically don't have much to worry about, but it's always best practices to fix it.
Solutions:
1. Remove the 404. Let the page load in it's own browser window if need be. If you want to keep the page out of search results, there are better ways to do it.
2. Add a meta robots "NOINDEX" tag to the popup page. This will keep it out of the index.
3. After the page is gone from the index, add a nofollow to the link, or block the directory using robots.txt.
Regardless, there are quite a few ways to tackle this. Hope this helps. Best of luck with your SEO!

404 errors in wordpress... Pages have never existed so why is google trying to crawl them?
I've just logged into webmaster tools and have over 100 404 errors. I'm running wordpress and I recently added child pages to 2 of my categories like so. www.mydomain.com/category1/lincolnshire www.mydomain.com/category1/cambridgeshire etc... The 404 errors though are for pages or categories I've never created though. I have over 20 root categories but decided to test adding child pages to only two of them. The 404 errors are for www.mydomain.com/category5/cambridgeshire .... It seem that gogle has tried to crawl these pages that don't exist. Can anyone explain what's going on? When I click 'linked from' in webmaster tools it's showing links from pages on my site that don't exist also.

On-Page Report Card is lacking
To SEOMOZ Developers: All my pages score A's in the On-Page Report Card, yet most are not indexed in the top 50 positions for Google!!! Don't you think there are other factors you're not considering when giving out A's? In other words, a page should not be awarded an A when it's not in top 50 ranking positions. That's seems to be a flaw in the Optimization Reports. There must be something my page is missing, but you are not pointing it out. Shouldn't your "A" requirements be more aligned with Google's ranking algorithms? In other words, most pages awarded A's should be found to be ranked in the top 50. And, most pages not ranked in the top 50 should recieve F's because they don't meet Google's ranking requirements. In other words, you should model your report card more closely to Google's ranking. Here's an example: Keyword: "enterprise time management" Page: www.stdtime.com/enterprise-time-management.htm

Crawl error: duplicate title for home page
I'm seeing a duplicate title for the home page, both the static file name and the domain. like: http://domain.com
On-Page Optimization | | joshcanhelp
http://domain.com/index.cfm I know how to set this in Google Analytics but how would I make sure this isn't seen as an error? It's accounting for both a duplicate title and duplicate content. Thanks!0 -
Can someone please help me identify where all these URLS to my homepage are coming from?
Hi. I installed the SEOmoz toolbar for Firefox, and analyzed my home page, then clicked on 'get a full site analysis at Site Explorer'. This is what came up: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/www.frs-solutions.com%252Fcontent%252Fhome/a!links?src=mb I hope that link works. If not, the URL is www.frs-solutions.com Anyway, there are about 57 different URLS within my site all pointing to my homepage! I have no idea where they are coming from. Can someone with an experienced eye take a quick look and tell me what I might be up against? Thank you!

How do I fix a 404 with a 301
I understand the need for fixing 404's but I have yet to have a serious walkthrough of how to set up a 301. From all the talk on the forums and such I'm pretty sure this is easy but I've just never done it before and I could really use a walk through. Thanks
