Keyword Difficulty Report vs Rankings Report
-
Hi,
Question: Is there a difference between the Keyword Difficulty Report and the Rankings Report? I am tracking a long tail phrase in the Rankings Report for a Campaign. The Google results are that it's not in the top 50. Yet, in the Keyword Difficulty report, there it is in the 5th spot.
I'm not sure I know which to believe.
Thanks!

Hi lilactree,
Both tools use the same method of rank tracking, so they deliver the same results. But you might see different results based on how you have your campaign set up.
Here's where it gets tricky.
When you first setup your campaign, you have 3 options - domain, subdomain and directory. If you choose to set up your campaign on a subdomain with a "www", it will only track those rankings of your site that appear with a "www"
On the other hand, the Keyword Difficulty tool returns all results, whether or not they have a www in them or not.
For example, lets say you set up a campaign for www.example.com. If Google ranks example.com (no www) in the search results, this unfortunately wont show up in your campaign rankings because technically, that's a different subdomain. (frustrating, I know, but it's important to work this way because that's the way subdomains work)
Here's what I recommend you do: First, if you have available campaign slots, set up another campaign, just like the first, but make sure to select "root domain" as the campaign type. This will show you all your metrics for your entire root domain, and more accurate rankings.
Second, read up about www canonicalization errors. If your site is accessible using both www, and without www, you may have a problem.

Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Should I use location in keywords in a campaign?
We're setting up 25 campaigns for clients and many of the keywords in each are identical. Rather than creating a keyword with a specific location for each client (pool builder san francisco), would it be more effective to use only "pool builder" as the keyword and then set the location for the San Francisco area? I'm concerned that we are going to run out of our keyword allotment since many of our clients have multiple locations.

I am using Wordpress and it is a page not a post so there are no tags. Hmmmm.... I'm confused - too many glasses of red wine?

Keyword Difficulty Tool - How to use it the best way?
Hi, I am freshman, both, here on SEOmoz and in SEO generally and have a question concerning the assessment of KW difficulty. I did browse through the Q&A-Section (great content!!) but could not find a relevant answer to my problem. So I am currently building my initial keyword list, our website is only 2 months old, so we are still in the very early stage. Fashion is a very competitive area, so the KW Diff. Tool indicates high difficulty for a lot of words and phrases. however, I identified some with percentages <50 or even lower than that. Then I compared the results of the SEOmoz tool to Google Adwards and the Google results for competitiveness differed significantly. For example: for the KW Personal Shopping I got KWD from Seomoz 33% (in Germany) and from Google 0,5 for broad and 0,64 for exact search. I am quite confused how to make the right choices for my KWs now. Which metrics should I consider most? What else apart from the competition factor is behind the metric KW diff.? Does it matter in any way that I search from Germany for Germany in German? Do you have any further recommendations for the process of identifying the best Kws? Thanks a lot in advance, best from Berlin Tani

Is it possible to see rankings on a graph?
Would it be possible to display Ranking data on a graph to show progress over a period of time? It would be great to be able to show a client how a certain keyword has improved over a time period.

Started my first campaign - keyword rankings do not match
Hello, I started my first campaign on SEOmoz and my keword position do not match the results I receive by using google search or by using another SEO program. For example - Ingersoll Watches should be on position 6 on google.com - SEOmoz shows me Ingersoll Watches is on 16. Why does SEOmoz show different results? Thank you for your attention!
