Anchor Text Percentage
-
At the linklove conference, many of the speakers emphasized the importance of not having too high a percentage of anchor text for your incoming links, because it looks unnatural. I was wondering whether this applies to your keyword being in the anchor text along with other things, or just exact anchor text matches?
For example, if my keyword is widgets, is it bad to have too many of these:
Please buy widgets from Acme Corp.
or
Please buy Acme Corp widgets.
-
Right, I understand all of that, but it doesn't really answer the question. My question is regarding anchor text that INCLUDES the keyword vs anchor text that is ONLY the keyword. So is it OK to have a high percentage of anchor text that includes the keyword (based on numbers in OSE's anchor text "terms" instead of "phrases")?

So it is OK to have a high percentage of the keyword being included in the anchor text, as long as it is not a high percentage of EXACT keyword anchor text?

In the process of natural link building I would expect that anchor text will vary and won't always be the exact keyphrase that is being targeted. Sometimes it would be the company name, the site URL, a longer sentence with the keyphrase in it or even "click here".
The suggestion is that if a high % of links are just the keyword that this sends a signal to Google that their acquisition may not be from purely natural means.

I'd take a look at the competition and see the anchor text variety that they have, like was shared at LinkLove. Essentially you don't want the extreme. So if you have 40% widgets, 40% acme corp widgets and only 20% Acme Corp that might stand out to Google as being out of whack.
A link without "perfect" anchor text is better than no link at all, especially if you've built a ton of links with that keyword rich anchor text. In Rand's presentation at Link Love he discussed this a bit also, that anchor text is worth less than it used to be.

Anchor text or inbound link keyword limits
With google's new algorithm, websites can get punished for keyword stuffing or too many of certain back links...so my question is, is there a limit on the keyword/anchortext used for a website containing a keyword you want the website to rank with?

'Powered by...' anchor text links
Hi Mozzers! We're a web design and dev agency in Kent, UK who don't really provide SEO services (tend to outsource and focus on our core competencies!) Have never really bothered putting 'Powered by...' or 'built by...' anchor text links at the foot of our client sites that link back to ours. Obvs we have a huge back catalogue of opportunities to add this to various sites which, if clients agree of course, would push our backlinks above our key competitors overnight (according to OSE). Good idea or Spammy/back hattie??? Cheers guys.

Anchor Text Choices
Hi There, Looking for some advice on the choice of anchor texts. Is it smart to include your domain name in addition to key words? What are the pros cons of including both vs. just doing a key word? Thank you!!!

Should I request backlinks to use anchor text that is page specific?
I work for a community college, with fairly high seo for the college in general. We have no budget for advertising specific programs, so we are trying to optimize individual pages on the website, e.g., physical therapy assistant, welding, etc. Does it make a difference if other websites use our main url, college name, or the college name plus specific program as the anchor text? Also, I'm seeing some posts here recommending to avoid lots of directory listings. I assume that doesn't apply to industry specific directories, like nursing school directories, right? I'm still a very new newbie and appreciate your advice.

Will online PR with optimized anchor-text hurt my SEO efforts?
With Google's recent phishing expedition and increased focus on natural link profiles etc where does this leave PR distribution with optimized anchor-text? Using the pai for PR distribution services has always been a great way to build backlinks but I just wonder whether these will be considered over-optimised in future?

Shortened url vs. anchor text
Are there any benefits to linking a shortened url vs. an anchor text when I am link building?Would linking via shortened link such as tinyurl cause problems with SERPS? Also, would it be more beneficial to short link to the homepage or landing page?

I have been under the understanding that it is best to vary your anchor text.
I have been working on a keyword term "boat covers" - however a link from the manufacturer site with the anchor text something like "Company Name Boat Covers" would be just a good or better. Is this correct? Thanks, Brook

How specific does keyword anchor text need to be?
I'm trying to get to the bottom of something. If you are trying to optimise for a phrase e.g. "Keyword 1 Keyword 2" And your anchor text is something like "Keyword 1 keyword 2 Another word" Does this still provide as much weight for "keyword 1 keyword 2" or does the additional word come into play and dilute the effect? If it does come into play does it have much of an effect?
