Open Site Explorer Not Working on 99% of Sites
-
I'm trying to use Open Site Explorer, but whenever I try to I get the error message "Ouch! It Looks Like Something Went South". Interestingly, I don't have this problem when entering a very popular site like google.com, yahoo.com, bbc.co.uk.
Is there a problem with the tool at the moment, or something wrong on my end?
-
Yeah - it should be just temporary (think it was just a few hours this AM when our API servers through Amazon's cloud went wacky). We're working on ways to make them stable, even if/when Amazon's having issues.

We're having an issue with LInkscape right now, which OSE (and other tools) uses. We're working on it right now. Keep an eye on the SEOmoz twitter account (@seomoz) for updates.
-
I'm currently unable to use OSE as well.
Also, the MozBar isn't working.

I can't help but am having the same problem at the moment.

Our crawler was not able to access the robots.txt file on your site.
Good morning, Yesterday, Moz gave me an error that is wasn't able to find our robots.txt file. However, this is a new occurrence, we've used Moz and its crawling ability many times prior; not sure why the error is happening now. I validated that the redirects and our robots page are operational and nothing is disallowing Roger in our robots.txt. Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated. https://www.agrisupply.com/robots.txt Thank you for your time. -Danny

Low KDS but high DA for all page 1 sites
Hi there A KDS report question... My client has a keyword with a low KDS (garden hose - 28). Intuitively this seemed too low, and when I checked what ranks, it is all high quality brand sites with high DAs. Admittedly the specific pages ranking have low PAs, but I can't see my client ever being able to compete with these big boys right now. How come the KDS is so low? This seems just wrong as the metric implies it is a good keyword to target - I know there are always lots of other things to check, but this does make me less confident with KDS reporting Anyone got any thoughts on this? Many thanks

Duplicate Content, Canonicalization may not work in our scenario.
I'm new to SEO (so please excuse the lack of terminology), and will be taking over our companies inbound marketing completely, I previously just did data analysis and managed our PPC campaigns within Google and Bing/Yahoo, now I get all three, Yipee! But I digress. Before I get started here, I did read: http://moz.com/community/q/new-client-wants-to-keep-duplicate-content-targeting-different-cities?sort=most_helpful and I found both the answers there to be helpful, but indirect for my scenario. I'm conducting our companies first real SEO audit (thanks MOZ for the guide there), and duplicate content is going to be our number one problem to tackle. Our companies website was designed back in 2009, with the file structure /city-name/product-name. The problem with this is, we are open in over 50 cities now (and headed to 100 fast), and we are starting to amass duplicate content. Five products (and expanding), times the locations... you get it. My Question(s): How should I deal with this? The pages are almost identical, except listing the different information for each product depending upon it's location. However, for one of our products, Moz's own tools (PRO) did not find all the duplicate content, but did find some (I'm assuming it's because the pages have different course options and the address for the course is different, boils down to a different address on the very bottom of the body and different course options on the right sidebar). The other four products duplicate content were found and marked extensively. If I choose to use Canonicalization to link all the pages to one main page, I believe that would pass all the link juice to that one page, but we would no longer show in a Google search for the other cities, ex: washington DC example product name. Correct me if I'm wrong here. **Should I worry about the product who's duplicate content only was marked four times out of fifty cities? **I feel as if this question answers itself, but I still would like to have someone who knows more than me shed some light on this issue. The other four products are not going to be an issue as they are only offered online, but still follow the same file structure with /online in place of /city-name. These will be Canonicalized together under the /online location. One last thing I will mention here, having the city name in the url gives us a nice advantage (I think) when people are searching for products in cities we offer our product. (correct me again) If this is not the case, I believe I could talk our team into restructuring the files (if you think that's our best option). Some things you need to know about our site: We use a cookie for the location. Once you land on a page that has a location tied to it, the cookie is updated and saved. If the location does not exist, then you are redirected to a page to chose a location. I'm pretty sure this can cause some SEO issues too, but once again not sure. I know this is a wall of text, but I cannot tell you enough how appreciative I am in advance for your informative answers. Thanks a million, Trenton

When do the "just discovered" links on Open Site Explorer count?
I have been working hard to get follow backlinks but they have all been in the Just Discovered part of Open Site Explorer for a long time. So they don't count in my stats for Domain Authority and such. When do they move OUT of Just Discovered?

How come a site with low PR and DA is first on everything?
Hi All, I've encountered a site that has PR3 on most important pages (and less on others but no more on any) and DA according to MOZ in the low 40's however it is first on everything on his niche (many keywords). How is it possible? Since it is possible, what is the importance of these metrics anyhow? Thanks

Sites Blocking Open Site Explorer? Penguin related.
Last week I was looking at a competitors site who has a link scheme going on and I could actually check the links for each anchor text. This week they don't work at all, do you think they're blocking the rogerbot on their domains? Or is there a problem with open site explorer? http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/anchors?site=www.decks.ca If you're interested in the background, all the links are to instant-home-biz . com which then redirects decks . ca - it's a tricky technique. Pretty much all of the links are from sketchy sites like: airpr23.xelr8it.biz/ airpr23.anzaland.net/ airpr23.vacation-4-free.com/airpr23.blogfreeradio.net/airpr23.blogomatik.com/http://www.morcandirect.com/mortgages/resources2.php which I thought Penguin was supposed to catch…

CSV export of Open Site Explorer is incomplete.
I exported my back links report from the Open Site Explorer toolbar as a CSV but the file it showed was only about 400 urls. The tool bar is listing over 1,200 links, so at first I thought maybe it was only exporting one link for each unique domain, but it only lists 200 or so unique domains linking to my site. I know it will only export 10,000 urls, but obviously I'm significantly below this level. Here is a link to a competitors site which is having the same issue.
