Encouraging users to "like" or "+1" our pages
-
Do you think its "bad" SEO or maybe google might penalize if we encourage users to like or pages or give us +1 for google?
-
On my big traffic pages I have "Do us a favor, if you like our tools give us a "+1" or a "like" "

With emphasis supposedly shifting more on social signals as the year progresses I would suggest asking users to act this way will have positive effects for SEO (especially the Google interaction).
It depends how you do it though. If you are just getting people to like you in returning for you liking them etc it will build an un-natural profile (same with purchasing +1's) which won't have any benefit to you. I don't know if G algo recognises these types of profiles, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does at some point.
If you capture an engaging/relevant audience to your social media portals then it will have numerous benefits (with SEO gains potentially sitting here).
However be careful of competitions on G+. As far as I am aware it goes against their guidelines.

By encouraging them do you mean placing the relevant social sharing buttons in a prominent position on your site? If so, that's fine, a lot of companies do that.
Give your users a reason to like/follow/+1 you and they will, just don't shove it down their throat.

Hi Cezar,
One famous campaign that you can use is: Pay with a tweet/like/share/etc.
I have only seen positive movement around similar campaigns, so no sign of Google dislike-ing it (but they will probably +1 instead of a like ;).

How do you propose to encourage your users to like or +1 your pages?
I've seen many companies encourage tahier website visitors to Like their pages by making the social share a requirement for entry into a competition. Ive also seen the same with tweets and getting people to retweet a URL for entry.
I suppose as long as your not forcing the user to so it, no click jacking and not buying the likes, you should be ok. Depends on your strategy.

Is it better to keep a glossary or terms on one page or break it up into multiple pages?
We have a very large glossary of over 1000 industry terms on our site with links to reference material, embedded video, etc. Is it better for SEO purposes to keep this on one page or should we break it up into multiple pages, a different page for each letter for example? Thanks.

Can you canonical from one domain page to a different domain page
We are a boating site and have our main site with all it's products. We have an engine section within our main site. But we also have an outside domain, specific to a certain manufacturer of engines. So we want our customers to still find the engine information for this manufacturer within our main site, as well as find the manufacturer targeted engine site in the SERPS. My question is this: Can I canonical those pages within our main site to pages on the outside domain? Or does are canonicals to be used only within the same domain? Thanks,

Help with the indexation of my page
Hi all, I have a problem with my website. When writing site:www.pinesapiensa.com there're no pages indexed although the webmaster tools tells me that the sitemap file has been processed in 13 May and the number of indexed paged are 21. ¿What could be happening? I have to mention that there are two domains "www.piensapiensa.es" and "www.piensapiensa.com" addressing the same website and there's a redirection from piensapiensa.com to piensapiensa.com but it doesn't work properly. Thanks

We have 5 postions on page 2 in a google search, but none on page 1\. How can we fix this?
For one of our most important key phrases we have 5 listings on page 2 but none on page 1. We are an ecommerce company, the key phrase we're trying for is a Top Level Category name for us, so the 5 links we have on googles second page for the key phrase (in order) are the appropriate top level category page, the sites home page and than three sub categories of that top level category. So while that all makes sense, can't we convince google to concentrate all that link power/juice into just the top level category page? Hopefully bumping it to first page rank? The 5 ranks are 11-15

Page Title - What is better?
Hi SEO Heads, I have another question if someone would be so kind in answering What page title of the 2 below is better for SEO (i) Chocolate Cake|Chocolate Cake Recipe|Xmas Cake or (ii) Chocolate Cake | Chocolate Cake Recipe | Xmas Cake As you can see (ii) Page Title has a space before and after the | (vertical bar) I know the second page title looks better to human eyes but on some pages I had to forego the space so i could fit my keywords in the page title. is this a good idea? Can anyone help me? Cheers Aidan

Page Rank
I had just made a 301 re-direct on one of our product pages which had a PR of 4, now that Google has indexed the new page, it's now got a PR of 0, i'm struggling to understand why this could be, i know that you may see a drop of 1, which has happened in the past, but this drop just does not make sense. Any ideas of why this could be? Kind Regards
