Has there been a Google change in the last 24 hours?
-
We have come in this morning to find our site (paydayuk.co.uk) has suddenly disappeared from their SERPs, we have consistently been ranking in the top 5 for a wide range of search terms but now do not even appear for our brand name of Payday UK where we have been first for many months.
Our site is still indexed and we have made no changes for a while as any SEO work is waiting on completion of a CMS system. Looking in https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!categories/webmasters/crawling-indexing--ranking and there seem to be a lot of people having the same issues but as of yet no answers. I'd also like to add we don’t use black hat techniques so we really don’t understand why we have been penalised.
Can anyone help please?

Yes, it seems like Google has penalized a bunch of sites with unnatural link profiles.
Patrick Altoft has written a good post on it yesterday: http://www.branded3.com/seo/the-new-google-link-algorithm/
And both Alan and SEOclient12 are right: Do not send reconsideration request before cleaning up.
Best of luck.

Thanks for your help both.
We have not heard anything from Webmaster tools no. We are investigating several lines and for one of them have just reviewed our link profile. we seem to have picked up alot of spammy links over the last month your correct. we are currently trying to asses the scale of this to see if we have been a victim of google bowling.
-
Apparently there's currently a bit of Manual review of anchor texts going on and your link profile seems quite spammy. Could have something to do with.
-
Whatever you do, do not apply for a reinclusion until you discover the reason and fix the problem.
Did Webmaster Tools tell you there was a penalty?
-
Ok, we have been looking more into this, and we now believe we have been given a -50 point penalty by Google, yet we still have no idea why in order to apply for a reinclusion request.
Would appreciate it if anyone with greater experience of SEO can see why this may be, again as far as we can see, we have not done anything against Googles guidelines.

Google ranking impact: Returning visitor vs New visitor
Hi all, If a website's traffic increase in "New visitors"; will this impact rankings? Do the website overall traffic affect rankings? How much this is related with ranking improvement for main keywords? Just because thousands of visits increased for website, will it count as a strong ranking improvement signal? Thanks

Does cached duplicate content hurts seo by Google
If we have duplicate content or pages cached in Google which has been indexed months back, still it hurts the original pages? Old URLs with cache can be seen now in Google when we search for the same URLs.

Why does Google Alerts call my website a blog?
Our company started a WordPress blog about 14 years ago. It has since added a third-party forum, a user-submitted photo gallery, and a huge database of searchable products. We also have almost 4000 posts. With all that said, Google Alerts often lists our content under blogs rather than websites. Sometimes it shows up in both? Does anyone know what criteria Google uses for determining the type of content, and how we can signal to them that we are a website?

Google Update?
We have a website that for the past several weeks has been very consistent at between 13,500 and 14,200 daily visits and this site received 15,600 last Thursday. THIS week, Monday is at 22,200, Tuesday is at 26,200, and at mid-day today (at about our traffic halfway point in the day) we're already at 14,000 today. This was a site that was bringing about 14,000 visits as of May 16th last year and dropped to 11,000 the following week. The traffic to this site this week is so far beyond statistical analysis that there must have been something that happened.

Effect of new Google SSL policy on our Analytics - AACK!
So I went to look at our keyword reports in GA today and our most popular keyword was "(not provided)". It now accounts for 10% of our referred visits. Unfortunately, it also has a 125% avg order value compared to the rest of our site. This is a really annoying policy that Google has implemented and will clearly have an effect on our ability to effectively market our site.
