Domain "Forwarded"?
-
Hi SEOMoz!
The company I work for has a website, www.accupos.com, but they also have an old domain which is not used anymore called http://accuposretail.com/
These two sites had duplicate content so I requested the OLD site (http://accuposretail.com/) be redirected to accupos.com to eliminate the dupe content. Unfortunately, I do not understand completely what happened but when they performed this forwarding the accuposretail.com URL is still in use. Now it just displays EXACTLY what accupos.com displays and not something similar. The tech team told me it is forwarded but I can't help but see the URL still in the search box on top.
Is this unacceptable? The actual URL has to forward and change to the accupos.com URL in order to not be duplicate content, correct? I have limited experience in this. Please let me know if we are good to go, or if I need to tell them more action is required.
Thanks!

I agree with Phil. The site isn't being redirected to the new one. Most likely what they setup is a rewrite instead of a redirect.
Tell the tech team that the url of the old site should never be visible.
And you can use tools like this to verify that it is actually redirecting. (you should see a 301 redirect)

More action is definitely required :).
There currently is no redirect set up. When I visit http://accuposretail.com/ I receive a status of 200. If there was a redirect then I'd be able to see either a 301 or 302 redirect.
This is definitely a BIG duplicate content issue that you'll want to jump on fast. Have them 301 redirect the old domain to the new.
Best of luck!

Forwarding a .org domain to a .com domain: any negative impact to consider?
Hello! I have a question I've been unable to find a clear answer to. My client's primary domain is a .com with a satisfactorily high DA. My client owns the .org version of its domain (which has a very low DA, I suppose due to inactivity) but has never forwarded it on. For branding/visibility/traffic reasons, I'd like to recommend they set up the .org domain to forward to the .com domain, but I wanted to ask a few questions first: 1. Does forwarding low-value DA domains to high-value DA domains have any negative authority/SEO impact? 2. If the .org domain was to be forwarded, am I correct that an SSL cert is not necessary for it if the .com domain has an SSL cert? Thanks in advance!

Should I be concerned about Google indexing an old domain if the listings redirect to the new domain?
I noticed this about Moz's old domain SEOMoz.org. If the URLs from the old domain are redirecting, is there any reason to be concerned about an old domain still appearing to be indexed by Google? See here: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=site%3Aseomoz.org Links to seomoz.org are listed, but if you click them they redirect to moz.com. Is this anything to be concerned about or is everything operating as expected?

If I want clean up my URLs and take the "www.site.com/page.html" and make it "www.site.com/page" do I need a redirect?
If I want clean up my URLs and take the "www.site.com/page.html" and make it "www.site.com/page" do I need a redirect? If this scenario requires a 301 redirect no matter what, I might as well update the URL to be a little more keyword rich for the page while I'm at it. However, since these pages are ranking well I'd rather not lose any authority in the process and keep the URL just stripped of the ".html" (if that's possible). Thanks for you help! "Items 1 - 24 of 75" Appearing in Meta Description - How Do I Remove It?
Hey guys, I've noticed that the item count is appearing at the beginning of the meta description for our brand pages, e.g. "Items 1 - 24 of 75 -". The issue I have with this is that it reduces the character limit (due to truncation), consequently leaving me with little room to play with to include more useful information. Is there a way to remove this? Cheers, A

Does authority via traffic get passed on to a forwarded domain?
We have purchased a keyword rich domain name as well as a short domain name(the acronym of the company). I would like to only advertise the short version and have a 301 redirect to the longer version. If we get a lot of traffic to the short version is that credit/authority passed on to the domain we are forwarding to?

Old domain vs. New keyword domain - Thoughts?
Okay. I'd like to get opinions as to what everyone thinks about domains lately. Here is any example: The current domain is general in nature, in fact, it's a persons name because they are a real estate agent. So the domain is something like JohnDoe.com. Current stats: Has approx. 130 linking domains pointing to it. Has over 300 incoming links from these linking domains. The link profile is clean and not spammy (not to say there are not a few that might be here and there) Was bough in 1994 The new domain would have very little value except it would be keyword rich such as PortlandHomesForSale.com (just an example). What are your thoughts. Thank you.
