RSS News
-
(By Google Traductor)
Hi, within our community we have developed a news service (www.agroads.com.ar/noticias/) where we had about 30 sourcesrss.
News grouped into categories and generate an internal link to see the details (and also a link to see the full story in the appropriate media).
It is our first experience with a news site and wanted to know:
1. We keep track of all news from all media? (would be creating agreat sitemap in the future:)
2. We must clarify in the sitemap that are sources of news?
3. Google may consider it duplicate content?
4. We're taking data from different source types (html, video andpodcast), we must differentiate this content to index?Any other suggestions would be welcome.
Greetings!

First of all, good luck with your new website! Now onto your questions:
- I wouldn't suggest taking on every imaginable category of news, instead I would focus on one topic.
- Your sitemap should only links to pages on your website, however the pages should (and most likely must) present the source of the original news article.
- Yes.
- For text a regular sitemap will work, for video check out video sitemaps, and I am not too sure about podcasts, maybe someone else will be able to chime in on that.

Is Opening a News Section a Good idea for Topical Authority and Freshness
Hi my website is less than 3m old and its niche is autism. I have identified around 300 profitable KWs (structured from T1 to T3) and over the next few months aim to create high quality pages for each while maintaining a page-tree structure. Currently I have already build around 50 of those pages. While I start off page SEO activities in parallel, I was thinking whether a news/daily digest section on my website will help me build additional value in terms of establishing niche authority and also scoring on the freshness factor. I have already set up google alerts on a variety of Autism related KWs and in process of outsourcing (to one qualified writer) at least two 500 word news articles from any interesting stories or ideas in google alerts. Questions: 1. Am I better off covering these ideas as News Articles or as just normal posts? Though neither of them will be KW targeted, they will be aimed to increase readership and authority. But capturing them as news would allow me to apply for Google News indexing as well. The question is important because based on that I will hire the writer. if Autism News is a better strategy, I will possibly pay a bit more to hire someone with experience in web journalism. 2. Overall, is this a good idea for brand building? Or should I start looking at more long-long KWs (<20 searches pm) and focus creating content for those? The problem is that with 300 KWs already identified > 40 searches pm), I am finding it hard to find KWs in loooong tail that covers a new aspect. For example: "Symptoms for Autism" and "What are the various symptoms of Autism". Now how do you create 2 different quality articles for that!

RSS Feeds query
I think I pretty much know the answer to this one but a client of mine (in the motoring sector) wants to put an RSS feed of their car ads on an external classifieds web site. Any SEO concerns there? Thanks all... Gavin

Author Rank for news portals
Hello SEOmoz community 🙂 I would like to discuss the option of implementing AuthorRank on news portals where content changes daily and the importance and the ''weight'' of that content is measuerd mostly on the breaking news factor. Content changes multiple times through out the day and there are many authors / journalists who write for that portal, so my questions would be: can AuthorRank have impact on this kind of site? Did any of you have any experiences with AuthorRank on a big scale sites like news portals and if you would be kind to share some insights. Thank you in advance! sincerely, sinisa

Should we be using a blog for news
Our domain has/had a blog on a seperate subdomain. However we were a little slack in always keeping this up to date when we are particularly busy. Rather than reinstating the blog, I have been adding all our new articles directly onto the website rather than as blog posts. Is there any advantage from an SEO perspective to posting articles to a blog rather than as content on a site?

Free RSS hosting service?
I have a list of URLs of articles I have written and posted in many different article databases. But many of the URLs are not indexed by Google. How can I get them indexed? I was thinking of putting them into an RSS feed and then pinging that feed. Good idea or bad? If a good idea, can anyone recommend a free RSS hosting site? Thanks.
