Any opinions about a slide panel?
-
Can I get some opinions about the slide panel that you can view at http://www.luxurysarasotarealestate.com/ (on the right-side wall, click on the 'sarasota real estate' tab to open)? I see it as a way to add quality copy to the homepage without cluttering the design. Any thoughts on its SEO value? From those with a web design background, any thoughts on how difficult it is to implement?
Btw, viewing the page source, it is:
<a class="slide_panel_toggle">Open</a>

Alex- Great question. Nice website. You guys did a nice job on the design and the structure and the content. Lots of solid content in the sitemap....... The answer is yes. It can be indexed correctly. You will want to test it. When I am using wordpress, I actually test the slide panel content to make sure it is getting indexed correctly with the seo plug in. You should do the same to make sure it isnt hiding behind the code.
We have had some sliders not work correctly to show text and show up as images.......so in that case for a short term solution, we have enhanced the meta tag description and alt tags to make sure it maximizes seo value.
We have also found that some sliders don't index on the home page but we can get them to show up on other secondary pages.....but make sure that you don't have the same content on every page , as it will show up as duplicate content.
One other thing.....don't plan on alot of people clicking on the slider....from our testing with over 30 websites that use a slider like that, on the right hand side, less than 7% of the visitors actually clicked on them....we found that most users didn't know there was hidden text....
Hope this helps.

Google's Knowledge Panel
Hi Moz Community. Has anyone noticed a pattern in the websites that Google pulls in to populate knowledge Panels? For example, for a lot of queries Google keeps pulling data from a specific source over and over again, and the data shown in the Knowledge Panel isn't on the target page. Is it possible that Google simply favors some sites over others and no matter what you do, you'll never make it into the Knowledge box? Thanks.

Strategies for generating a knowledge panel for brand queries
Hello, I'm looking for any new ideas or experiences that might help in generating a knowledge panel for a brand query. I'm working with a company that has a strong brand, over 200K searches for the brand name alone each month, but they don't have a knowledge panel. When you search the brand name, the right side of the search results is just blank white space. Here are some of the things they do have, which tend to trigger a KP: Well built-out Wikipedia page Pages on Wikidata, Freebase, Crunchbase Home page organization schema Home page schema using sameas to connect the company to their social profiles, wikipedia page, and Freebase and Wikidata Hundreds of mentions in national press outlets Verified Twitter and Pinterest profiles (the same type of verification celebrities get) Generally, this all (and maybe even a lot less than this), would trigger a KP when you searched the brand name, but it just doesn't. No branded queries trigger a KP. It's interesting, because even the three smaller companies that they've acquired had (and still have) knowledge panels when you search those brands. So, I'm wondering if anyone has seen or worked through this behavior before? Or, even if not, any thoughts or ideas that we can do to nudge Google towards a KP for a branded search? Thanks!

When you add 10.000 pages that have no real intention to rank in the SERP, should you: "follow, noindex" or disallow the whole directory through robots? What is your opinion?
I just want a second opinion 🙂 The customer don't want to loose any internal linkvalue by vaporizing link value though a big amount of internal links. What would you do?

Opinion on Duplicate Content Scenario
So there are 2 pest control companies owned by the same person - Sovereign and Southern. (The two companies serve different markets) They have two different website URLs, but the website code is actually all the same....the code is hosted in one place....it just uses an if/else structure with dynamic php which determines whether the user sees the Sovereign site or the Southern site....know what I am saying? Here are the two sites: www.sovereignpestcontrol.com and www.southernpestcontrol.com. This is a duplicate content SEO nightmare, right?

Opinions on Building Own Blog Network (Private Use Only)
With the lose of buildmyrank and many other services like this on the verge of extension I was looking at building a small blog network of my own for private use. Adsense and also 3 way linking. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this? I know this takes a ton of time to build but if anyone who's done something like this and wouldn't mind sharing some of their tips I would greatly appriciate it. Quick Question

Is it safe to register say 30 domains under the same person? Or would it be wiser to use whois protection to guard the names? Anyone else want to contribute their 2c to this strategy please be my guest.0 -
I want your opinions on the lack of increase in Pintrest's PR
Many months ago, a fellow marketer at my company introduced me to Pintrest, claiming that it would be good for our business. Pintrest was very much unknown by many just a few short months ago. Since then, I have seen it take off like wildfire, with excessive media coverage, registrations, and people putting the button on their sites. It must have thousands more backlinks now than it did six months ago--high quality ones too, as it's had coverage in virtually every major new media outlet. I want your opinion as to why it has remained a PR6 site this entire time. It was a PR6 site then and it still is now. I know the increase in PR is algorithmic, but come on! Can people share their experiences they've had link building for those higher PR sites? How much harder does it get?
