Organizing Website Content
-
Hey everyone!
I am looking for some opinions on organizing website content. Here are two thoughts. I am open to alternative suggestions as well. Thanks for any consideration in this matter!
**Aviation Supply Store Thought A **
**Helicopters Airplanes Rockets **
Helicopter engines Airplane engines Rocket engines
Helicopter Fuels Airplane Fuels Rocket fuels
Helicopter Accessories Airplane Accessories Rocket Accessories
Aviation Supply Store Thought B
Engines Fuels Accessories
Helicopter Engines Helicopter Fuels Helicopter Accessories
Airplane Engines Airplane Fuels Airplane Accessories
Rocket Engines Rocket Fuels Rocket Accessories
I simply chose aviation as an example. I'm just having difficulty deciding on how best to catagorize.
Thank You!

Boomajoom, I like that idea. Space is a little bit of an issue right now, but I will keep that thought around for a while. Thank you!

I am wondering about the possibility of duplicate content as well. In terms of key word research. They are all pretty strong. Hmmm, I am going to be giving it more thought for now. Thanks again.

Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same thing; although I was also worried a bit about duplicate content issues as Margarita S has mentioned. Titles and Headings could be fairly similar excluding the aircraft type. Could this be a duplicate content issue?

Agree with the suggestion about doing keyword research. Assuming that checks out for you, why not categorize according to both ideas? Have the largest volume categories at the top, say thought A, and do the thought B categories in a sidebar?

Hi Quilbur,
Honestly, the best suggestion I have for you is to do some keyword research and get a sense of how your target audience is searching for the content you have. I think that will be the most useful way of doing it. Also, assess if there's some overlap on the content you have. Would you be duplicating content if you talk about "helicopter fuels" and "airplane fuels"?
Hope this helps!

Quilbur- You always want to categorize by the most specific heading......this will always help you in both paid and organic search results.......
Airplane, helicopter and rocket are much more specific search headings....then your subheadings of engines, fuels and accessories make more sense as secondary keywords........
Hope this helps.
Mark

Does Google considers the cached content of a page if it's redirected to new page?
Hi all, If we redirect an old page to some new page, we know that content relevancy between source page and this new page matters at Google. I just wonder if Google is looking at the content relevancy of old page (from cache) and new page too. Thanks

Searching for Compelling Hard Data on why B2B Websites Should Be Responsive
I am being asked to provide hard data in support the migration to a responsive website for a large B2B website. I have searched for any case studies showing before/after comparisons - no luck. I can easily show: Current data on desktop vs mobile visitors, their bounce rate, pages per visit, etc. Google Analytics Benchmark data - really compelling stuff there! In the past year, 100K visitors have come to the site from mobile devices. GWMTs shows the client not receiving mobile impressions for important keywords, All the close competitors have gone responsive. In APAC regions, mobile is more widely used than in the USA. BUT, I can’t show that making this expensive and time-consuming transition will result in more revenue. The client is a financial services software company, with a 2-3 year sales cycle. Has anyone seen data to support this transition? Thanks everyone! Have a great long weekend.

How much content is it safe to change?
I have read that it is unsafe to change more than 20% of your site’s content in any update. The rationale is that "Changing too much at once can flag your site within the Google algorithm as having something suspicious going on." Is this true, has anyone had any direct experiences of this or similar?

Do images count as duplicate content.
Hi We have a site called buypropertyanywhere. We sell properties all over the world but at times we use the same images of complexes. Would Google see this as copying from each other therefore duplicate content. Thanks in advance

Redesign, new content, new domain and 301 redirects (penalty?)
We merged our old webshops into one big project. After a few days we received our rankings back and traffic was coming in. Then suddenly we lost almost all rankings overnight. We did not use any wrong seo techniques and have unique content, written by our own writers. Is this a penalty or do we have to wait longer?

Google and Content at Top of Page Change?
We always hear about how Google made this change or that change this month to their algorithm. Sometimes it's true and other times it's just a rumor. So this week I was speaking with someone in the SEO field who said that this week a change occurred at Google and is going to become more prevalent where content placed at the "top of the fold" on merchant sites with products are going to get better placement, rather than if you have your products at top with some content beneath them at the bottom of the page. Any comments on this?
