Organizing Website Content
-
Hey everyone!
I am looking for some opinions on organizing website content. Here are two thoughts. I am open to alternative suggestions as well. Thanks for any consideration in this matter!
**Aviation Supply Store Thought A **
**Helicopters Airplanes Rockets **
Helicopter engines Airplane engines Rocket engines
Helicopter Fuels Airplane Fuels Rocket fuels
Helicopter Accessories Airplane Accessories Rocket Accessories
Aviation Supply Store Thought B
Engines Fuels Accessories
Helicopter Engines Helicopter Fuels Helicopter Accessories
Airplane Engines Airplane Fuels Airplane Accessories
Rocket Engines Rocket Fuels Rocket Accessories
I simply chose aviation as an example. I'm just having difficulty deciding on how best to catagorize.
Thank You!

Boomajoom, I like that idea. Space is a little bit of an issue right now, but I will keep that thought around for a while. Thank you!

I am wondering about the possibility of duplicate content as well. In terms of key word research. They are all pretty strong. Hmmm, I am going to be giving it more thought for now. Thanks again.

Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same thing; although I was also worried a bit about duplicate content issues as Margarita S has mentioned. Titles and Headings could be fairly similar excluding the aircraft type. Could this be a duplicate content issue?

Agree with the suggestion about doing keyword research. Assuming that checks out for you, why not categorize according to both ideas? Have the largest volume categories at the top, say thought A, and do the thought B categories in a sidebar?

Hi Quilbur,
Honestly, the best suggestion I have for you is to do some keyword research and get a sense of how your target audience is searching for the content you have. I think that will be the most useful way of doing it. Also, assess if there's some overlap on the content you have. Would you be duplicating content if you talk about "helicopter fuels" and "airplane fuels"?
Hope this helps!

Quilbur- You always want to categorize by the most specific heading......this will always help you in both paid and organic search results.......
Airplane, helicopter and rocket are much more specific search headings....then your subheadings of engines, fuels and accessories make more sense as secondary keywords........
Hope this helps.

Ranking impact: Traffic in website pages vs sub directory vs sub domain
Hi all, I need clarification on this. Not every time website main pages rank, some times even pages from sub directories or sub domains like blogs or guides; especially for branded keywords. I just wonder what happens when so much traffic is generating in sub directories and sub domains just because of limited landing pages in main website. Will this traffic be counted as traffic in main website as per Google? Traffic increase in main website really an ranking factor? Will the "brand + topic" related keywords' traffic is more for a website; will it ranking improves even for "topic keywords"? Thanks

Our organic search traffic went flat for 2 weeks Oct 2 - Oct 17\. It has since resumed to more normal numbers. Anyone have any idea why this would happen?
Does anyone have any insight as to why our organic search traffic would go to nearly nothing for roughly a 2 week span Oct 2 - Oct 17th? Our regular traffic remained fairly consistent so we were still being indexed. It has now resumed to more normal numbers but I cannot think of anything we did that would make this happen? We did make a 302 switch to be a 301 permanent redirect on our site in early August but that is all I can think of? Any insight or help would be appreciated!

Using a sites custom code for multiple websites: good or bad?
Is it bad to utilize a custom codebase for multiple websites? Does that play a factor within Google? Also, what about hosting sites with the same custom codebase on the same dedicated server?

Changing in website design reduce traffic? I don't think so.
HI, Around the month of Nov I was working on the website. Due to some reasons I have to change the design of website. I saw my traffic going down and down(70 - 100/day) so roll back it on previous one. after that it improve little bit but not as on previously. (traffic 250 - 300/day). Question: All Urls, content and links are same then how that can effect on the traffic. We have removed all the errors that was shown in the seomoz report. But traffic is still the issue here. We are working on SEO area enough and try to recover from it. Your suggestion may be helpful for us.So I am looking forward for your answers. how i can over come with it. Thanks Regards

Organic Traffic Stagnant
Our automobile portal is the leading in Pakistan and we are there for almost 10 years now, we already rank in top 3 keywords ( top 1 on most of them ) but our search traffic has become stagnant, we have tried to optimize for keywords that google search tool show has more traffic and we have gained ranking in most of them but still our search traffic isnt showing any much increase. Is it possible that we have already got all the juice and there arent much people who are searching auto related keywords or what can we do to increase organic traffic? Work on long tail keywords? Whats next?

Do links count in syndicated content?
If I write a press release that goes viral and is syndicated all over do each of those links to my site in the syndications of the press release count and pass page rank with Google? Or does Google only count the link in the original press release? I heard that Google counts all the links for a time then eventually counts only one link from the original content and discounting all the other links as duplicate content. Any truth to this? Thanks mozzers! Ron10

Organic Rank Volitility
Does anyone else see their organic rankings fluctuating wildly. I have been tracking a few key keywords by literaly typing them in each morning and looking at results. The pages I have been doing this for where without any doubt affected by Penguin as you can see the huge drop in traffic directly correlated to the Pegnuin deployment. What is strange is one day these phrases will be on page one position 3 and two days later but on page3 to 5 or not ranked. Four days later back on page 1. These are wild fluctuations so it appears to me that I am observing Penguin tweaking ? Just wish the tweaking would stop on one of the days were our phases for this particular site are on page one. Most people would check rankings weekly, monthly or quarter and would not perhaps be observing these crazy swings? Thought?
