Accurate monthly search data
-
I have a search term that is only used widely for one month of the year (roughly) - that keyword is "ucas clearing" only really used in august.
Looking at google's keyword tool it shows a monthly search figure of 22k and apparently this is the average across the year. Now, do google add up 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,264k,0,0,0,0 - divide by 12 and come up with 22k - or do they see that it isn't steady traffic and just ignore the 0 months and therefore 22k is actually about right?
Many THanks for confirmation,
Ally

Does it make sense to pursue long-tail keywords with low search volume
Hi Moz community, I need your insight into what would ensure better rankings. Some of the pages that I am optimizing are dedicated to niche products targeting specific verticals and the main keywords have really low average search volume (below 50). I'll give you an example (these are not the exact keywords, just an example to illustrate my dilemma): if my long-tail keyword is "student information management software" with search volume of 20, when do I stand better chances to gain search visibility: by optimizing the page for this long-tail keyword and incorporating it in the title tag, or by pursuing more generic keywords with higher search volume: "student" and "information management software"? If I am targeting short-tail keywords, will the page also rank for long-tail searches that are a combination of these keywords? In other words, which scenario gives better chances to rank higher: 1) pursuing short-tail keywords with high search volume in the title-tag 2) pursuing fewer long-tail keywords with lower search volume that are a combination of those in scenario 1? Thanks in advance for your help!

My page was removed from Google search result, any idea why?
URL: http://id.gamesinasia.com/review-smartphone-xiaomi-mi3/ Hi, So last week I wrote a review about a smartphone and after a couple days my post was at 6th (first page) in google search result. But yesterday it was suddenly disappeared from google search result (not even in 10++ page). Normally I just have to wrote title page + games in asia, like "review xiaomi mi3 games in asia" and google will show me the post but now it wont even show. In fact two other site that simply scrap my content was showing on 1st and 2nd result! More info: All the content was original, including the image. We are also Yahoo (Indonesia) content partner so my review also ends up in yahoo site ( https://id.berita.yahoo.com/review-xiaomi-mi3-sebuah-angkatan-baru-dunia-smartphone-121537236.html) I'm not expecting a super high ranking, but google is punishing the page and I have no idea why. Thanks!

Importance of news headlines for their search rankings
Hi there, we're trying to determine how to best write headlines to make our articles more findable. We're a Theater content and ticketing site (theatermania.com) and we're about to publish an article describing outdoor Shakespeare in New York City. We've discussed a few headline options (we automatically use the headline as the page title, although we aren't married to this) below. Are any of these much more findable than the other? For example, are we shooting ourselves in the foot if we lead with "Fill your Summer...." in the first option? Am I blind or has Google finally shut down its "Related Searches" option?
I know I just used this a few days ago, so I was surprised when doing keyword research today that I could no longer access the "Related Searches" feature in Google search. Has anyone else noticed this? It's a pity if it's gone, although I think Google announced it was going to shut this down over a year ago. They said the same thing about the "Patent" search too, but it is still available. I know using "Related Searches" was really popular with SEOs so I am wondering if anyone else is as sad-faced as I am? Or perhaps was it just bumped today so Google could have fun with their April Fool's beta test of Google "Nose" ?

Is there any sites other then Google Insights which have cataloged search volume for particular queries over time?
I know Google Insights gives this data, but the fact that it's relative to overall search requests make it very difficult to see anything other then obvious trends (Toys sell better in November, go figure?). Each query I've looked up[ is showing degradation over time, but I'm postulating that this has more to do with search volume increasing then with the volume of my queries decreasing.

Search volumes broken down by region
Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a keyword research tool available that breaks down search volumes by region. For example, how many searches there are in London/South East for the keyword "cars". All the tools I have seen only go down to country level. Are there any that go down to region/city level? Thanks for your help. Mik
