Link building / baiting in the Google zoo

I work for a consultancy, and in the past most of our links have been acquired by giving away privacy statements etc for websites, including a link back in the body of the document, and making it a licensing requirement that the link be kept.
We're launchinga new site. We want this one to be whiter-than-white, and would appreciate some advice on the following options.
Option 1: no links
Remove the links from the documents, and don't require links for the use of the documents. Leave a non-linking credit in the documents. Perhaps ask nicely for links from other pages.
Option 2: links on other pages
Remove the links from the documents, but make it a licensing requirement that users will link to our site from another page on their site. I appreciate that most won't, but some will.
Option 3: retain the links
Keep the links in the document, using domain name (with and without http and www) and business name anchor text.
Option 4: script the links
Use scripts to generate randomized links in the documents, so that no two are the same, but with relevant linking text for the most part.
We're risk-adverse with the new site, and it will pick up some links "naturally". We're therefore tending toward option 1, on the basis that it may well generate as many links as option 2.
Which of these options would you choose? Are there any other options we should be considering?

Whiter than white hat means you want to stay all ethical and relevant. Here is my idea to go with.
White hat means you links should be natural and relevant to the website (if not all at least many). In order to get relevant domains, I would advise you to get list of blogs and start promoting your website through content.
- Building link through offering free content to bloggers will allow you to use diversified keyword anchor text and you will be able to use all keywords as an anchor text on different blog posts.
- Why not make a badge or something (that can easily fit your industry as far as I think) and encourage people to share on their website this will allow you to get good amount of link without much effort.
- Building a white paper (downloadable) that define the need of your services (non promotional) will encourage people to download your white paper and may link to you and talk about you on social medias.
White hat link building do need time and effort but above given techniques can go long term as Google love them and no sooner coming update is going to hit this negatively.

You could also setup a facebook page for your business and require people to like it in order to get at the free content (similar idea just using facebook over twitter, though I prefer twitter to help drive serps).

I'd go with option 1 personally and look to leverage the content another way...
I love the "Pay with a tweet" idea, there are services which require you to Pay for a download with a tweet. http://www.paywithatweet.com/
This is a great way to get some credit for your work, spread the word socially and attract some links/authority from relevant sites and its all perfectly natural!
Option 2 sounds a little shoddy and difficult to manage.
Option 3 could prove to be dangerous with hundred/thousands of ;links with same anchor text
Option 4 Woah there buddy, this sounds a litle 'grey'.
If you want to be 'Completely clean' go with option 1, ask people to share socially or link to you in return for the content.

One thing to keep in mind is whether you are going to link to their site as well. With links pointing back and forth you may be "Link Farming" its better to have one way links that 2 way.

What should i ask from a freelancer when building links for me? what should i give him like (keywords) ?. what is important to take take of? When you go to freelancer.com there are people offering backlinks for less than 100$ is that a good method? Will this help my seo? Is it a matter that my site is in Greek? thanks

Looking for a trusted link building service
Can anyone recommend a service to build quality links to our site and work with us on a content strategy, preferably UK based? We have recently recovered from a link penalty and whilst this has been removed we now need to re-build a quality bank link profile. I've looked into the Moz recommendations but not many seem to be based in the UK or if that doesn't matter then I'd be interested to know people's experience. Basically, since the penalty we've become very nervous about link building even though we didn't necessarily create the problem! As a small team we've looked to outsource this and have looked at VA's but not confident the links they will achieve will be of good quality

Local Link Building help!
Hi All, Looking for some help with where to begin link building for local small businesses. If the website is leading to a lawyer, doctor, or any type of professional service, I'm at a loss on where to start. I've tried looking into local directories, and I also know that if one of the clients has a reason for being linked in an online news article, those links should be pursued. Additionally, I've gone and helped to claim all local listings, and submitted to DMOZ and a few other directories. So if the website is just leading to a business that isn't running any events or specials worth writing about, what is the best way to acquire links? Thank you! Tyler

I need help finding a link building professional
I understand that some may respond to this question advising that we should concentrate on building good quality content, and eventually the links will come. And I do agree. The problem is that while we are implementing a content strategy and we're absolutely focused on creating unique, quality content for our audience, we're also a brand new business with a current grand total of (wait for it...) - 4 back-links! So while we're devoting our efforts to create the most engaging content we can, we need to find someone that can help us build our back-link profile and help to promote our brand and content in the most legitimate way possible. Obviously typing "SEO" into Google is not necessarily the most effective way to find the right person for the job and I'm a bit apprehensive about posting ads on eLance, oDesk, etc Does anyone have any idea how we can find someone smart and highly experienced that understands the importance of doing this right? Link Building - Drawing a blank
I've been trying to get backlinks for one website for the past 2 weeks and it's proving almost impossible. Initially I drew up a list of websites that would be suitable to have a link on and tried e-mailing a contact on each. However, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Most are coming back saying I can add some content but they will charge. However, we don't have a budget. I've analysed competitor backlinks and they didn't reveal anything interesting. The website doesn't have a Twitter account. So I can't look for links that way. Another problem is that the website has a very niche audience and probably not the most active online. Does anyone have any other tips that would help?

Do industry Forums really help build links?
I've read that one way to build some links to your site is to contribute to a industry specific forum that is popular and pretty active. I've started doing this for about 2 months now. This particular forum allows your signature to include your websites name. When I look for links with the Seomoz tools and the new Bing tools I never see this forum appear(showing links to my site). So my question is should I continue to answer questions on this forum or is it a waste of time? And does this usually take a long time i.e lie years? Thanks, Cesar

Outsource Link Building?
Currently we are in the process of creating a new ecommerce website. The site is not live yet, but we have done all of the planning and brainstorming and now are just doing all of the dirty work to get things ready to go live. We are devoting a lot of time on merchandising and developing the site, but currently do not have the resources to put together a good link building campaign in house. Does anyone have any recommendations for outsourcing the link building? The last thing we want is to hire someone that submits to bad neighborhoods and only directories. Is there a good, better, best scenario we should be looking at for pricing, ect? Obviously, like most who are starting a new site, cost is an issue at least until the site gives some sort of sign of life. Also, we are in the Pittsburgh area. We don't need to go local with this, but if there is someone particularly good in the area it would be nice. Thanks in advance.
