Best practise for domain redirect
-
Hi guys.
I have a client that has one main site, with the domain IMOWOOD.PT (Portugal), and then we have the domain IMOWOOD.COM (redirecting to .PT).
The problem is (that i verify using site:imowood.com) in Google, apeears that the domain .COM have a lot of indexed pages! This will penalize the 2 pages right? Because the duplicated content (?).
What i want to know is... if i have 1 domain (the one i want to be index) what should i do, to do a proper redirect from the .COM to the .PT, making the .COM not indexable?
Right now the .COM only redirects @ index page. Dont know why... I've used the domain redirect @ my cPanel.
So... whats the best practise for domain redirect?
Thanks!

1. If you only want the .PT indexed and the .COM already has pages indexed then you should do 301 redirects for each and every page on the .COM that has been indexed and then make all the others noindex, nofollow in the robots meta tag.
2. If you are just redirecting the whole .COM domain to the .PT domain then do the 301 redirects of the pages that are cached/indexed by the search engines and then remove all the pages from the .COM server which would save you having to add the noindex tags to all the pages(but will affect point number 3 below).
3. If your target market is only in Portugal then by all means implement the redirects and leave it as is - but if you are going to expand to target other countries then you might want to think about either having different content on each of the domains which are specific to that country.
4. What about language? I'm assuming your target market is Portoguese speaking and the .PT domain contains content in that language?
5. What I think you should do is have your content on the .COM and have different sections for which country the user is in(or which language they select) - this can be detected with some simple coding by a developer.
Hope this helps a bit

2 Domains, 1 Brand - Content Marketing Strategy Question
I have a customer that has two separate locations for the same business on two different URLs (both connected via Landing Page). I cannot change this. They are in the powersports industry (snowmobiles, ATVs, motorcycles, dirt bikes, etc). The locations are about 10 miles from one another, essentially sell the same brands & products (there are 1 or 2 exceptions), have the same target audience (local & from out-of-state), and have the same goals. They currently rank #1 and #2 for their industry in their area. They now want a content marketing strategy. I face limitations with the CMS (no blog abilities and technical issues that are out of my control), and content marketing can really only consist of custom graphics & custom page creation. Typically, custom pages are utilized by creating Brand Pages describing the major brands to built out authority in those categories, and then try to branch out from there to create individual product-category pages with more unique content to answer more of a question based on the intent. I am very concerned about creating content that will be too similar between the two locations and will thus compete with the other location, so I am thinking I should devise a completely different strategy for 1 location over the other. Is that a good idea? I think with the smaller location, I choose the typical route of creating brand pages, product pages, etc, and then with the bigger location, try to focus on unique content such as buyer's guide, local SEO ideas about the area, FAQs, testimonials, etc. Thoughts/ideas?

What are the best widgets to use on Wordpress? And what is most useful on Wordpress for content syndication?
We are in the process of researching the best plugins and widgets for our clients' blogs. It appears that SEO by Yoast is most popular for 2013 so far. Any recommendations on which widgets we should be using or plugins for content syndication? If we use something like the Jetpack plugin, would this do the trick?

Is framed content on another domain duplicate content?
I've read a number of articles and am getting opposing answers. I've been checking pages of Photo.net in copyscape for duplicate content. I'm finding a number of domains have the site iframed onto them. I was wondering why copyscape could read the content if the search engines supposedly didn't crawl iframes. Copyscape said Google can read the content. I just want to know if these sites need to remove the iframe (is it hurting Photo.net)? Thanks. Examples: http://www.copyscape.com/?q=http%3A%2F%2Fphoto.net%2Freviews%2F

Merge pages - use redirects?
I have merged the content of three HTML pages to one. pages one URL stays as is. the URLs of the pages 2 and 3 are obsolete. Would you recommend to use 301 redirects from the obsolete URLs to page 1? Other proposals? Thanks, Thorsten

What to do with .net version of our domain name?
We recently bought the .net version of our domain name. Our plans are to use it for blogging and link to our .com site through it. Is this a good or bad idea? Why or why not? Is there a better use for the .net site?

What is the best practice for using the same content on two pages?
I have two websites in a very similar niche(s)...I have good unique content article that I would like to use on both sites because it adds value to the visitor experience.. Example: Science of Colors would be very useful for my seattle house painting paint colors page. I want to have content so they do not need to leave the site to navigate to second site. Would the identical content trigger a penalty or would it be crawled, ignored, and not indexed. Does having a rel=authorship on one site trump the site..Or is it a pile of BAD.
