How to increase page authority and domain authority? [Ecommerce]
-
How can I increase my Ecommerces Domain and Homepage Authority? My competition have 60-70 page Authority and it's time I try to compete.

Pinterest is a nice SEO tool for sure. I've found that by listing new products and articles, you do gain new links from Pinterest while also capturing the attention of potential customers. It's a different audience than Google+ or Twitter, and a very active audience similar to that of Facebook. It seems to reach a slightly older crowd.

Thanks Matt.
I think the key to pinterest for ecommerce is to mix up our own product images and graphical creations along with other products that could compliment your range. Obviously having great product photography helps massively.
(ooh I can feel a youmoz post coming on!)...

Sounds like a good suggestion to me and if it works for hangers then I think you must be on to a winner. I haven't used Pinterest much, but I think your recent post on the blog is a good example of its potential - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/a-small-success-story-inspired-by-seomoz-and-its-contributors
Thanks for sharing Aran

I've found Pinterest to be really useful as A social networking site, a link building tool and a resource to gain targeted traffic.
-
Cheers Aran, you are right maybe I should have spelled that one out a bit more, however I envisaged and have found from personal experience that when creating content on your site you would need to share links to that content to your social networks (this is the exposure part) and then this will bring you likes, tweets and also links from other sites.
In utilising social networking as an effective way of gaining exposure for your content you will always gain your likes, tweets, etc if carried out effectively don't you think?
I guess the important thing here is to make sure you have enabled social sharing on your sites pages!
You are also right this will be a long process but anything worth having always takes time and effort.
-
Agreed with Matt, but surely social signals are going to be in play too. Encourage social sharing of your pages and the links, G+'s, Likes and tweets will follow, then the Page rank will flow.
Get comfortable as its going to be a long process though!
Best of luck.

Hi Jack,
To increase your Domain and Page Authority you need to increase links to your website and in particular your homepage if you want to increase that specifically. To do this you need to think how can you create some decent content that is link worthy and then you need to make sure it gains exposure so that it will start to gain links. There are lots of ways that you can increase your link profile using things such as:
- In depth product reviews,
- A blog (consider encouraging and rewarding guest bloggers that are authorities in your niche as they will have a strong, relevant following),
- How to videos in relation to your products and how they might come in when carrying out a task for instance,
- Content curation is also an idea (some decent articles on this on SEOMoz).
Now for the exposure; best place to start is to build up your social networks and start to interact and form relationships with people that are likely to have an interest in your products, in particular those that are authorities in your niche/product area. Then when you have built relationships with them you can expose them to your new content, which will then hopefully get passed on to their social following and through this you will start to gain links and more attention slowly establishing yourself as an authority in the process - win win situation!
If you do this and work hard at it your DA and PA will increase as you want it to. Just remember that when you are building links in a post penguin world don't over do the anchor text and always go for quality links over quantity, don't start using dangerous methods, such as forum signature and blog comments. Hope this helps - Good Luck!

Pros/Cons on Where to Host Stores for Ecommerce Solution Provider (subdomain vs. throwaway domain, etc)
Hello! Does anyone have any experience with the pros/cons for where to host storefronts as an ecommerce solution provider. I'm looking for a recommendation on where to house the stores/websites people create with our software (think of us like a shopify/squarespace). What are the pros & cons of creating stores on the main domain name “brand.com” versus buying a new top level domain name who’s only purpose will be to hold all the subdomains, such as “mybrand.com”, or even “.my.brand.com”. store.brand.com <— subdomain our our primary domain

store.my.brand.com <— subdomain of a subdomain
store.mybrand.com <— subdomain of a throw-away domain Weebly/Squarespace/Tictail go with the first option (store**.weebly.com** and store.squarespace.com). Shopify goes with the 3rd option (store.myshopify.com) Are there any advantages or disadvantages to one or the other? Am I missing any other options? Thanks in advance!0 -
YouTube won't let me disconnect a Google+ business page from my channel.
Hello! Here is a good one. My YouTube channel is connected to a Google+ page a created by accident. Since I named this accidental page as a business, when I go into advanced setting to disconnect it from YouTube, it says "This feature is not available for this account." Does anyone know a way around this? I don't want to have to rebuild my Google+ page on the new, accidental page. I have put quite a bit of time onto my current page and would like to get it hooked up to YouTube. Please help! Thank you!

Authorship/publisher markup - Author photo vs. company logo
I'm trying to get a company logo to show up next to the search results for a search on [company name] AND a separate author photo to show next to the About page of the author of the same site for a search on [author name] There is author markup on the company's "About" page and Google's structured data testing tool shows that that page is correctly configured to show the author pic. There is publisher markup on the home page and the tool shows that the page is correctly configured to show the company logo. However, no company logo shows up in the search results for the [company name] search--just an author pic next to the "about" page for the [author name] search. if I add author markup to the homepage in addition to the publisher markup, I get the author pic showing up for both [author name] and [company name] searches. How is anyone making this work? Thanks.

Link local online newspaper ad to newspaper's spash page or my site?
We just started advertising on the web version of our local newspaper. They suggest our ads go to a "splash page" they created for us on their site. The page haslinks , images and text taken from each of our main categories,. Plus links and feeds from our twitter and facebook pages. And a google map. This page shows a page authority 1 with 0 links. Is there any reason to link our ad to a page like this rather than going direct to our website page? Thank you Handcrafter

How to increase traffic to forum?
Hi all. I help run the forum at www.bearsfansonline.com and really want to see if there any ways to increase traffic. We started with a core group of posters in 2009 and since then have only added one active user. I'm worried if we don't bring in some fresh faces, my core users will start to leave. That being said, does anyone have ideas how to go about doing this? We've tried holding contests but they haven't resulted in any new sign-ups. Don't really know what else we can do. I'd greatly appreciate any tips, suggestions, etc. Thanks in advance.

Is it just me or is there an increase in call tracking?
We are running into more and more new clients who bought into marketing packages with call tracking and even some that created duplicate websites for these numbers. I believe this is a bad idea for clients as it dilutes their NAP. Are others seeing a similar trend? How do you work around this problem with and for clients?

Use blog.domain.com or socialbrand.com?
I've got a little bit of a dilemma. A company I'm working for has an ecommerce site that is moving to Volusion. It is impossible to add "domain.com/blog" so I am forced to use a subdomain in order to keep consistency. We are starting a push in Social media and have secured shorter handles for the brand to use on the different networks. One of the main goals originally for developing a blog is to build trust but since the domain names are so big (26 characters) and the ecommerce sites already have a good amount of trust building factors in them I am beginning to question my original plan. My question is this: If I go with a shorter brand recognized domain name to develop the blog on which is different than the ecommerce domain (keyword matched) will I loose too much trust and ranking opportunity because of the difference in domains. I know there isn't a golden bullet for this question but i would love to get you your take on it.
