SEO in multiple languages
-
I'm doing SEO for an apartment rental web-site. We have one web-site for each destination. And for some (popular) destinations we have a separate domain for some languages.
For instance: http://www.barcelonacheckin.com/en for English and http://www.barcelonacheckin.com/fr for French
In another destination we have http://costabrava-ok-apartment.com/en for English and http://www.location-costabrava.fr/ for French.
We have good result with the separate domains for languages. But I'm facing two problems:
-
We do not get any progress in the ranks in English in any Web-site
-
There's a lot written about SEO in English and there are many opportunities to build relevant links. But we are out of sources for eg. French.
Our SEO routine exists of participating in forums on famous travel web-sites, guest post exchange with our blogs, link exchange and presence in Social media.
Can anybody give us some suggestions?

I have some experience in this as all of our websites are in at least 2 languages - some in more. I have found that I have had to do SEO seperately for each translated version of the site to get them to rank. So, for the Spanish version, I had to work on creating links back from Spanish sources specifically to the Spanish pages. For the Russian pages, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese and Korean pages I had to do the same. The SEO work I did on the translated pages did not seem to have any noticeable benefit to the other languages SERP even though the pages are all like together.
It sounds to me that since you guys are primarily a French site, it may be that you got most of your links back to your French pages, from French sites. If that is the case you may try to work on specifically getting links for the English section.
I hope this helps.

Hi there,
Try producing an infographic and translating it into several different languages - this infographic can then be promoted to each geographical market and if it's well thought out, well design and promoted properly, it will start to naturally attract links from sources you were probably unaware of.
Here's an excellent example, Hostel Bookers had an infographic designed on Barcelona vs. Madrid, which was placed here:
http://blog.hostelbookers.com/travel/barcelona-vs-madrid/#.T7-SotXLy18
This gained them lots of natural links to that page - including a link from about.com (domain authority 94). In addition to publishing it here, they also got the infographic translated into Spanish, published it on the Spanish version of their site and continued to promote it to Spanish travel websites, gaining them numerous strong links to the Spanish version.
From there you can translate an infographic into French, Italian, Mandarin, Russian, etc. etc. and continue gaining strong international links that aren't manipulated (i.e. they're natural).
Also, I doubt the problem is that you're running out of sources, but rather than you need to widen your link-building methodology, as there's probably hundreds of sources you're missing.
Here's an excellent post on link-building methods from Jon Cooper - this should help you come up with some alternate ideas to form posts and link exchanges (neither of which are anywhere near the best options at your disposal):

I've also included a link to my own post on content creation, which might help you with the production and promotion of high quality content:

Hope that helps you! Good luck with your campaign.

Is there any SEO value of an HTML Sitemap, or is it strictly UI/UX?
We have an xml sitemap that generates daily, and our site and navigation is strong. Is there any added SEO value in either the links, or content of an html sitemap? I only see answers from several years ago so not sure if things have changed that would increase or decrease the importance. Thanks

Hiring for SEO Outreach
Hope everyone is having a nice Labor Day! We're a family owned wine club startup and have been handling SEO in house since things didn't go well with a previous SEO company (and sure we've done plenty of bad stuff along the way as well). In any case, we're writing a blog, including video entries etc. I've been handling basic email outreach about posts (ie if I write a winery profile, asking the winery to link to it) but don't really have time to handle more significant outreach than that. Can anyone make some suggestions about where to hire someone for an outreach job like this? It would undoubtedly be part time and Elance didn't give us anyone we were comfortable with. Thanks in advance!

Blog commenting for SEO - Useful practice?
With most blog comments being no-follow, I was just wondering whether blog commenting for an SEO campaign these days was actually a worthwhile practice. Would love to get some insight on this.

Is it possible to do local SEO for 2 different business locations in same state?
Since you have to be consistent in all your review website information (business name, street, etc.) is it possible to have a website rank for both of their business locations which are about 50 miles from one another in the same state or do they have to pick just one location to promote offsite?

Seo & Real Estate Site?
I am a Realtor. I am also a web developer. I want to make a site about real estate and web development. Primarily how I use my unique skills with web to sell homes. A real estate website caps it's Page Rank very low. There are not a lot of good backlinks to get when compared to the web development industry. There are millions of blogs I participate in about web development/seo. There are a lot of blogs I participate in about real estate too; however, the real estate websites all have low page ranks. This is obviously because the seo/web development industries know how to build page rank, which makes it easier to accumulate it. It's difficult finding good outlets to get link power from in real estate. How confused would google be? Is there an acceptable strategy to making this a reality? Please point out all of the variables I am not seeing. Pros and Cons. I'm not an SEO pro. I would be going for the keyword Pensacola Real Estate. I would accumulate backlinks from the real estate industry and the web design industry. Help 🙂

How does Google interpret articles or prepositions in languages where it's attached to the (key)word?
Hi, All! This is for any foreign language SEOs where articles or prepostitions such as "the" "to" "in" or anything else are actually part of the word they are modifying and not a separate word, as in English: How does Google understand those words on-page and in anchor text? If you want to optimize for the word "house", and your content/anchor text says "the house" or "in the house" (again, all one word) - what does Google count that as? Does it count toward "house"? Does it count toward "in the house" only? Does it count toward "house" but not as much as if you had just put "house"? I end up sometimes writing slightly grammatically-off content because I want to optimize for the keyphrase - but is that necessary? Obviously different languages might be different, but you can probably project a little from one to the others. Thanks in advance!
