I also think it's a strategic way for Google to push G+ when there's been a significant drop off of engagement. People sign up but don't use it often/regularly (I mean, most people) so this is a good way to give rationale and expand beyond the original "Facebook killer" assumption.

The new indexing may be a huge advantage for local-oriented businesses over national online-only competitors that might have stronger link profiles/SEO but no local presence.
Facebook-type, regularly updated Google+ local pages that are well optimized might end up dominating local SERP.

I think this change has been coming for a long time. When you think about this, when you want to market something locally, focusing on a social aspect could be really helpful to gain more customers. When you look at a new local page, you can see the local "buzz" of what the page's circle is saying; for example, a restaurant:
"There is a friendly atmostphere"
"excellent Servers"
"Clean, fast food"
I think the whole social aspect can really make local advertizing much more effective.

Competitor is climbing google faster then me utilizing an RSS feed?
Hello everyone, I am fairly new to SEO (I've learning as much as possible the last 2 weeks!) and its a fun and interesting process thats already helped immensely with my website thanks to the community members for answering questions. I am a wedding photographer and videographer on Kauai, and as with most photography sites we are fairly image heavy text light (Working to change that as we speak). That being said my competitor www.joshuagrantrose.com (my site is www.balihaiphoto.com) is growing his organic results very quickly. Is this due greatly in part to this Parent directory which then leads to single pages like this of images? With how many single pages there are like this linked in the background of the site with Im assuming with descriptive and proper text, keywords, and so on of each alum like this (lots and lots of images and pages/links). If someone could help with understanding this or implementing it would be of great help as I've only gotten my feet wet with SEO and don't want to be making wrong assumptions or analysis! Why am I getting different ranking results on Google?
Because the rank checker on SEOMOZ is temporarily down for upgrade, I followed the link over to the other suggested rank checker on seobook.com which installs a plug-in to Firefox and it seems to be working fine….BUT my question is when I check out my two highest traffic keywords which are “Whitby holiday cottages” and “Whitby cottages” against my website www.endeavourcottage.co.uk it tells me I'm ranking position 2 on both Google.com and Google.co.uk but I don't think I am. When I do the same check using a proxy server called hidemyass.com to check my rankings again on Google.co.uk and .com I appeared to be lower down the rankings like position 8. Does anyone have any idea of which is the accurate reference to my rankings? What do you do to check your rankings ? And one last quick secondary question is when I searching Google chrome using same key words again I come at the top position A on the Google maps listing but using Firefox or Internet Explorer there is no Google maps visible ways that? At the end of the day out rankings are important but where are working towards more traffic...... Cheers

I ran across a blog on Moz from last November that was introducing the social monitoring feature. It mentioned adding new social platforms that would eventually be included in SEOMoz. Any word on when/if that is happening? Excited to have SEO and Social under the same dashboard! Jake

Google.com corresponds to google us ?
Rank tracker can't find sonosurgery.it ranked for sinus lift on google.com (us), but If I perform a real search thru google.com I can find it ranked at 15 . Why ?
