Do Share buttons take LinkJuice?
-
Hi,
I'm using AddThis sharing on my site.
The implementation is by embedding a href's all over the site.
Do these buttons take my LinkJuice?
Thanks
-
I think you are correct.
Here are the AddThis buttons script samples (no href):
<a class="addthis_button_preferred_1"></a> <a class="addthis_button_preferred_2"></a>
<a class="addthis_button_preferred_3"></a>
<a class="addthis_button_preferred_4"></a>
<a class="addthis_button_compact"></a>
<a class="addthis_counter addthis_bubble_style"></a>Here are the ShareThis buttons which are used by SEOMoz on blog posts (without <a>):</a>
<a>Just in case, I think I will go with ShareThis from now on...
Still looking for more ideas if anyone has...</a>

Do these buttons take my LinkJuice?
I would say yes.
Web pages present many links within javascript and other code. Social media links, Verisign SSL, TRUSTe and many other widgets which link to external sites are often presented in this manner. There are many social links which will be implement in a manner to simply present the link in HTML. The standard BBB link works in this manner as well.
The SEOmoz toolbar only recognizes the html links. If you present a link in javascript, the SEOmoz toolbar will not see the link. I am confident Google is much more sophisticated and can see and understand these links and adjust appropriately.
I do not know with 100% certainty but that is the best information I know.

I believe the links are placed with a javascript on page ready, so in that case 'no'. You have to put anchor-tags on your website, but there is no href attribute set to them, so there isnt an actual link.

What to do with dynamically translated content sharing same urls?
We've just added to an originally English website, Italian and German translations. User can switch between them with right hand drop down language selection menu; then the entire page will be translated (including menu, body, footer) but the urls remain the same. The Italian page have some meta data (titles and descriptions) translated as well. Is it going to be a significantly negative effect on SEO to have the translated pages sharing the same urls?

No Follow for Social Media Buttons?
Our website has all social media buttons for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ are located in the footer of all pages. These links are set to "no-follow". Running an SEMRUSH audit shows these "no-follows" coming up as an "issue". Is it best practices to set these links to social media sites as "follow" as opposed to "no-follow"? I am somewhat concerned about losing link juice but perhaps that is an outdated point of view. Any thoughts?? Thanks, Alan

Is tabbed content okay or bad for SEO? Google takes both sides.
Hello Moz Community! It seems like there are two opinions coming from directly from Google on tabbed content: 1) John Mueller says here that content is indexed but discounted 2) Matt Cutts says here that if you're not using tabs deceptively, you're in good shape I see this has been discussed in the Moz Q & A before, but I have an interesting situation: The pages I am building have ~50% static content, and ~50% tabbed content (only two tabs). Showing all tabbed content at once is not an option. Since the tabbed content will make up 50% of the total content, it's important that it is 100% weighted by Google. I can think of two ways to show it: 1) Standard tabs using jQuery Advantage: Both tab 1 and tab 2's content indexed Disadvantage: Tabbed content may be discounted? 2) Make the content of the tabs conditional on the server side website.com/page/ only shows tab 1's content in html website.com/page/?tab=2 only shows tab 2's content in the html. Include rel="canonical" pointing to website.com/page/. Advantage: Content of tab 1 indexed & 100% counted by Google Disadvantage: Content of tab 2 not indexed Which option is best? Is there a better solution?

What's the best way to manage content that is shared on two sites and keep both sites in search results?
I manage two sites that share some content. Currently we do not use a cross-domain canonical URL and allow both sites to be fully indexed. For business reasons, we want both sites to appear in results and need both to accumulate PR and other SEO/Social metrics. How can I manage the threat of duplicate content and still make sure business needs are met?

I currently have a client that has multiple domains for multiple brands that share the same IP Address. Will link juice be passed along to the different sites when they link to one another or will it simply be considered internal linking?
I have 7 brands that are owned by the same company, each with their own domain. The brands work together to form products that are then sold to the consumer although there is not a e-commerce aspect to any of the sites. I am looking to create a modified link wheel between the sites, but didn't know if my efforts would pay off due to the same IP Address for all the sites. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sharing same IP address as competitor - Pros & Cons?
Hey there! I was wondering is there were any particular 'Pros or Cons' to sharing the same server IP address as a competitors website which links back? Site 'A' = http://goo.gl/N1JUO // Stockists of Site 'B' brand products Site 'B' = http://goo.gl/fU9hc // Links to all Stockists of it products with a follow link including site 'A' It is desirable for site 'A' to rank above site 'B' to reduce the volume of visitors finding other stockists linked to from the stockists page of site 'B' when searching for site 'A' primary broadest keyword. However, site 'B' is one of site 'A' best in-bound links. So does it matter that site 'A' is sharing the same server IP address as site 'B'. Also should site 'A' have only 'no-follow' links to site 'B'? Look forward to your input fellow SEOMozers 🙂 Cheers! Ben

Share Your Success Stories!
Sometimes, its nice to get a pat on the back, and it's always helpful to share tactics that work! The question is this: what's your biggest success story? Care to share any pictures or stories on how you got to the top? What do you attribute your success to? Here's one of our success stories - one of our clients wanted to be on the first page for the keyword "Morse Code." We never thought we'd be able to get them on the top of such a competitive keyword, but alas! We never gave up. Since this is a hobby website and not a website generating a huge amount of cash, it was easier to get incoming links from other people who were interested in the topic. I'd say we'd attribute our success to having great content and getting others to write blog posts and join in on the fun. What's your success story and how did you do it? showing-off-seo.jpg

Is Google just taking long time to re-index or did I make a boo boo?...
Couple weeks ago I changed a url on my site from using underscores to using hyphens I setup a 301 redirect and added appropriate canonical to the new page. My site is crawled daily and I've done this on several other pages with good results but this page is just not being indexed right… I see my page #8 with some random title Is there some "interim index" that Google has? It's just bazaar to me, any thoughts? Thanks! - Cliff
