Competitive Domain Analysis

What is the best way to improve this in reference to my competition? My site(s) are formatted well, returning no errors or warnings. I have removed my keyword meta-tag and tested my sites against the keywords that we want to appear under. Now I need to close the gap on the competition.

Trust badges, live chat, and toll-free numbers won't improve your rankings but should enhance the trust a user places in your brand, thereby increasing the potential for conversion.
On-page optimization is the price of entry into the SEO competition -- it sounds like you've squared away the basics (title tag, meta description, h1 tag, used the keyword in your content, included related words and phrases). If that's the case, you're likely being outpaced in off-page factors.
Open Site Explorer, Majestic SEO, or ahrefs should all be capable of giving you a glimpse into whether or not you're competitive from an authority standpoint. In order to pass your competitors, you're going to have to build links. You can leverage an export from any of these tools to find the links you can duplicate (directory listings, industry-specific lists, etc). That should let you close the gap considerably (and perhaps pass them).
The "Future of Link Building" webinar referenced by Jamie is an excellent source for some additional link building approaches.

Wow! I had no idea that things like live chat and toll-free numbers are important. I believe I have optimized my tags (I think), I do have social and industry badges. Not sure how to answer the content piece but I believe it is most of those things to my target audience. I will look at the offsite SEO.
Thanks for the assistance.

There are three ares of SEO you likely wish to address: your website itself, content and offsite.
It sounds like you addressed some of the onsite areas such as code validation and removing the meta keywords tags. There are dozens of areas involved in onsite optimization. A few more areas to consider:
do you offer trust badges such as BBB, McAfee, TRUSTe, etc? Are there any industry based affiliations you should present?
are all your seo tags optimized? title, meta description, etc?
do you offer live chat? a toll-free number for visitors to contact you?
do you engage in social media? You can share your social accounts, offer visitors the opportunity to like / tweet / +1 your articles, etc. and allow for "single sign on" so visitors can sign in with their social account.
For your content, is it truly fantastic? Is it compelling? Is it authoritative and accurate? Is it written at a readability level suited for your audience?

Big drop in Domain authority : Languages school in Brazil
Hi, I notice today strange update on the DA of our website and competitors website as well. caminhoslanguages.com (our website) : drop from 26 to 19 bridgebrazil.com : drop from 29 to 26 rioandlearn.com : drop from 19 to 14 carioca-languages.com : drop from 22 to 15 DA drop affect all website, but bridgebrazil.com less than the other. bridgebrazil is close now. the website is rank first, but it is a business that no longer exist. thay rank first, only because it belong to an international company that have other languages schools in different countries, providing them a huge based of links high DA. Sorry to tell you, with this new update you totally miss the point. In which sense does the DA represent the quality of the websites ?? Is it not fair for small school, trying hard to get excelent website to get penalized like this, because it is really hard for them to get link from very high PA pages you know ? Could somebody give explication? If you would like to improve your algorithms, I would suggest to reduce the values of the links from companies internal linking. Because it provide unfair advantage for small business.

What are some good SEO tactics to defend our position against an upcoming competition in a near monopolistic market?
I'm doing SEO for a medium sized client whose area of business is targeting a very niche audience, in an almost monopolistic market. We're currently in top 3 ranks in our head terms. However, market research has indicated the threat from an upcoming competitor. The competitor is relatively larger and is well established in other countries. Is there something I could do from my end to defend/maintain our current position?

Discrepancy in Competitive Link Analysis?
I currently have a campaign set-up that monitors a few competitors compared to our site. When I look at the Root Domain Metrics I see that Company A has 2,053 total external links, and Company B has 1,632 total external links. I wanted to view these links in more detail so I ran Advanced Inbound Links reports. The reports returned 432 results for Company A and 693 results for Company B. Shouldn't these numbers match up with each other, or am I missing something? Also, I noticed that in the Inbound Links analysis for my competitors there are a number of results listed that are not actually inbound links, but are internal links from there own site. Is there a reason these are appearing? I am having problems because I am trying to use this campaign to show the improvements in our site vs our competitors. However, OSE shows dramatically fewer total external links for our site (about 260 vs 3200 in Webmaster Tools) and I cannot tell if the competitor data is accurate? Thanks

What are the competition's Google Places pages optimised for?
I'm doing some work on a client's Googe Places page, and wondered if there's any way to see what a completitors Places page is currently optimised or categorised for? Basically, we're trying to rank for 'Bathrooms Edinburgh' and almost all of the page 1 SERP's are (unsurprisingly) full of Places results, with #1 Organic slot right down at the bottom of the page. In short - we NEED to get our Places page kicked into shape, and pronto! So, is there any way to find out how the competition's Places pages are ranking so well? e.g. What have they categorised themselves under? Cheers in advance folks, JM

Competitor Ranking High has 2 Domains, But Duplicate Website ?
I was using OSE and noticed all the backlinks to one of our competitors is there other domain name, which is the EXACT SAME website. You can enter both url's and they display the same content. They are not useing any canonical tags either. Why are they not penalized for duplicate content? And for using there own website for backlinks ? We try to do everything right, but still cannot beat them. Any thoughts on this?

What tools do you use for competitive link analysis?
I have been using SEO Spyglass lately but it can be very slow at times. Wondering if there are any other accurate/robust tools out there.
