Tactic to get 2000+ indexed (fast)
-
Dear SEO'mozzers,
Soon i'll be launching my new project. A website with about 2000+ pages, with +- 150 words per page (simple instructions, can't make it longer).
It is vital that every page is indexed and will get in the SERP's.
Wich tactic can you recommend:
- Just set every page online at once ( with a good sitemap) or,
- Feed Google Sitemap with lets say 30 pages a day, so the crawler will come by every day. And hopefully get a better indexation and better rankings over time.
- Other tactic? of doesnt matter?
Many thanks for your help.

I echo what Ryan said 100%. Another suggestion - especially because it sounds like you're going to start with a whole bunch of info - is to add a blog. When you're building a site, especially one that has a whole bunch of info go live at once, is to stay focused on fresh content.
With my businesses' sites, I've really found that pushing content all at once during the launch gets me indexed, but doesn't necessarily get me the SERP position I want. I try to write two articles a week per website at a minimum. It keeps the crawlers coming back and increases my site wide keyword density and potential for catching long tail searched.
-
Thanks for the advice. Think ill go with it and redesign structure to get more info on one page, so i can also put more effort in unique articles ( only around 700 then). Wich saves me time + make my website better for SEO.
-
I'm with Ryan on this one. If you can use less pages with more information on then do so.
And also I'd recommend reading up on the Panda Update.

Without thoroughly understanding your niche, the products / services / companies involved, it is very difficult to offer meaningful advice.
In brief, you can drop the "generic product" pages and instead make a single, rich page for Company A which offers all the details readers need.
You are welcome to operate your site however you see fit, but Google and Bing will operate their search results how they see fit, and they have determined the tactic you are using is not in the best interest of users.
If you felt compelled to present the site in the manner you described, you can add the canonical tag to all the Generic Product pages indicating the Company A page as the primary page to be indexed.
-
Ill try to explain what my problem is. Cause what you're telling is true, found that out myself onze too.
The problem is that every page NEEDS to be there, cause the little info differences are vital.
It a website with info about how to cancel subscriptions. Most of services are offered are all the same from all company's. Only the adress is the difference.
Its build up like this:
Company A - info page
Generic product a - cancel for adres for company A - infopage
Generic product b - cancel for adres for company A - infopage
Generic product b - cancel for adres for company A - infopage
Company B - info page
Generic product a - cancel for adres for company B - infopage
Generic product b - cancel for adres for company B - infopage
Generic product b - cancel for adres for company B - infopageThe difference from content is not more that 15%, but that 15% makes the difference and is vital. Any idea for a solution for this problem?
-
The second choice would be recommended.
It is common for site owners to publish more pages in an attempt to rank for more keywords. An example I can think of related to directions:
Article 1 - How to clear cache in Firefox 13
Article 2 - How to clear cache in Firefox 12
Article 3 - How to clear cache in Firefox 11
...and so forth. The directions are all the same but in an effort to target individual keywords the site owner generates numerous pages. Search engines view the pages as duplicate content.
Next, site owners attempt what you are suggesting...hire writers to change a few words around to make each article appear unique. This tactic does not help improve the quality of your pages and therefore does not help users. It is simply an attempt to manipulate search engines. It often does not work. If it does work, it may stop working after a time as search engines get better at filtering such techniques.
The suggestion I would make is to forget search engines exist and write the clearest, best directions ever written. Offer images, details about things that might go wrong, etc.
-
Thanks for list, i think everything is fine. Only not the content you mentioned. Think i need a few good text writers, to write 2000x200 words of unique articles.
To tackle the unique content problem i have 2 solutions. Wich one do you think its best?
- Publish the site with 75% possible dupe content, and then rewrite over time.
- Only publish only unique articles, and take some time for it ?

Your site size really is not a factor in determining how quickly the site is indexed. A few steps you can take to achieve the goal of having all 2k pages indexed fast:
-
ensure your site's navigation is solid. All pages should be reachable within a maximum of 3 mouse clicks from the home page.
-
for the most part, your site should be HTML based. You can use Javascript, flash and so forth but the HTML support needs to be there as well. Try turning off javascript and flash, then navigating your site.
-
for pages you do not wish to be indexed, add the "noindex" tag to them rather then blocking them in robots.txt when possible.
-
review your site map to ensure it is solid. Ensure all 2k pages you want indexed are included in the sitemap. Also ensure there are not any pages blocked by robots.txt or "noindex" in your sitemap.
-
review your content to ensure each page is unique. With only 150 words per page, there is a high likelihood many pages will be viewed as duplicate content and therefore not indexed.
-
review your site code (validator.w3.org) to ensure it is fairly clean. Some errors can impact a search engine's ability to crawl your site.
My biggest concern is the last point. If you simply change the title and a couple keywords, then the other pages will be viewed as duplicates and not indexed, or even if they are indexed they wont rank well.
I should also clarify the above applies to Google.com mostly. Bing is much pickier about the pages it will index.

Question about Indexing of /?limit=all
Hi, i've got your SEO Suite Ultimate installed on my site (www.customlogocases.com). I've got a relatively new magento site (around 1 year). We have recently been doing some pr/seo for the category pages, for example /custom-ipad-cases/ But when I search on google, it seems that google has indexed the /custom-ipad-cases/?limit=all This /?limit=all page is one without any links, and only has a PA of 1. Whereas the standard /custom-ipad-cases/ without the /? query has a much higher pa of 20, and a couple of links pointing towards it. So therefore I would want this particular page to be the one that google indexes. And along the same logic, this page really should be able to achieve higher rankings than the /?limit=all page. Is my thinking here correct? Should I disallow all the /? now, even though these are the ones that are indexed, and the others currently are not. I'd be happy to take the hit while it figures it out, because the higher PA pages are what I ultimately am getting links to... Thoughts?

To index or de-index internal search results pages?
Hi there. My client uses a CMS/E-Commerce platform that is automatically set up to index every single internal search results page on search engines. This was supposedly built as an "SEO Friendly" feature in the sense that it creates hundreds of new indexed pages to send to search engines that reflect various terminology used by existing visitors of the site. In many cases, these pages have proven to outperform our optimized static pages, but there are multiple issues with them: The CMS does not allow us to add any static content to these pages, including titles, headers, metas, or copy on the page The query typed in by the site visitor always becomes part of the Title tag / Meta description on Google. If the customer's internal search query contains any less than ideal terminology that we wouldn't want other users to see, their phrasing is out there for the whole world to see, causing lots and lots of ugly terminology floating around on Google that we can't affect. I am scared to do a blanket de-indexation of all /search/ results pages because we would lose the majority of our rankings and traffic in the short term, while trying to improve the ranks of our optimized static pages. The ideal is to really move up our static pages in Google's index, and when their performance is strong enough, to de-index all of the internal search results pages - but for some reason Google keeps choosing the internal search results page as the "better" page to rank for our targeted keywords. Can anyone advise? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Thanks!

How can I see all the pages google has indexed for my site?
Hi mozers, In WMT google says total indexed pages = 5080. If I do a site:domain.com commard it says 6080 results. But I've only got 2000 pages in my site that should be indexed. So I would like to see all the pages they have indexed so I can consider noindexing them or 404ing them. Many thanks, Julian.

Thousands of 404 Pages Indexed - Recommendations?
Background: I have a newly acquired client who has had a lot of issues over the past few months. What happened is he had a major issue with broken dynamic URL's where they would start infinite loops due to redirects and relative links. His previous SEO didn't pay attention to the sitemaps created by a backend generator, and it caused hundreds of thousands of pages to be indexed. Useless pages. These useless pages were all bringing up a 404 page that didn't have a 404 server response (it had a 200 response) which created a ton of duplicate content and bad links (relative linking). Now here I am, cleaning up this mess. I've fixed the 404 page so it creates a 404 server response. Google webmaster tools is now returning thousands of "not found" errors, great start. I fixed all site errors that cause infinite redirects. Cleaned up the sitemap and submitted it. When I search site:www.(domainname).com I am still getting an insane amount of pages that no longer exist. My question: How does Google handle all of these 404's? My client wants all the bad pages removed now but I don't have as much control over that. It's a slow process getting Google to remove these pages that are returning a 404. He is continuously dropping in rankings still. Is there a way of speeding up the process? It's not reasonable to enter tens of thousands of pages into the URL Removal Tool. I want to clean house and have Google just index the pages in the sitemap.

How to get a full blended listing
Hi people, After much hard work our site www.noyelling.com.au is doing very well in the SERPS in Brisbane. The only problem is that we've gone from having a full blended listing to what can be seen in the attached image - a map-pack listing. While we are number 1, I don't feel that having the listing as it is is offering anywhere near the value we'd receive from a full blended maps/organic listing. Any ideas on how a full listing can be achieved so that we can be number 1 and be separate from the map-pack we are part of currently? Thanks, Matt Williams www.noyelling.com.au 0t3I1Z2x3W3n3F08342R

How do we get individual products to rank ?
Hi, We have a site that sells music and we have been researching SEO and things we can do to help SERPs. We have started on link building and have added links to the footer of our page We have friendly urls, meta tag description added to all products. My question is, Yes we can work on getting keywords to rank better in google, one of ours being buy cds. But when it comes to individual products these keywords and results are useless if people are searching for a CD by artist or title which most do as they know what they are looking for. How do i get better results for all these unique products ? One or more of our competitors constantly show up in first few results for nearly any CD search by artist or title, yet we cant seem to get anywhere near this type of result ? Thanks Chris

Should you stop indexing of short lived pages?
In my site there will be a lot of pages that have a short life span of about a week as they are items on sale, should I nofollow the links meaning the site has a fwe hundred pages or allow indexing and have thousands but then have lots of links to pages that do not exist. I would of course if allowing indexing make sure the page links does not error and sends them to a similarly relevant page but which is best for me with the SEarch Engines? I would like to have the option of loads of links with pages of loads of content but not if it is detrimental Thanks
