Sub Domain SEO
-
I am thinking to Add Sub Domains to get better rankings for Local Searches. So I will develop City Specific Sites with Specific Language. For Example qatar.wisnetsol.com. IT will be in Arabic. If my Good standing and Ranking on Google for wisnetsol.com will help my subdomain to rank better?
if we setup wisnetsol.com/qatar, how it can target Qatar in Google Webmaster tools?
Will links for qatar.wisnetsol.com and wisnetsol.com are seprate?
What do you think about this strategy? Is it good or bad?

Actually the last couple of YouMOZ posts have dealt with the subject. Might be worth readin and making a decision from there - http://www.seomoz.org/ugc

Actually you can target countries using subfolders if you add yoursite/region/ to WMT
Site Config > Settings > Geographic Target
But it's not as seperated as using a subdomain.
I target countries using subfolders and it can work quite well.

The best way to target local market is to have subfolders for local areas. I would not say that having a locally targeted subdomain is bad it is just that sub domain will not benefit the authority of the main domain too much. Building content on the sub folder will not only help you rank for local keywords but it will relatively easier to rank since one of the top 5 ranking factors is the authority of the domain.
If you are trying to target a country then it is best to have a country specific TLD. i.e www.google.in (india), googe.com.mx (for mexico) and then target the city within the country using a sub folder. www.google.in/mumbai

Check out microsoft.com. They have a global website at microsoft.com which by default redirects to Microsoft US. If you go and select another country, you can see the change in URL.
You can see Matt Cutt's Opinion here:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/subdomains-and-subdirectories/
Unless you are confident about your offerings and if the intended content of your sub domains would be very different from your website's homepage offering, then maybe you can go in for a sub domain kind of architecture.(citing Matt's closing words)

Thanks saibose. I have not started yet. I just thought about it, as google doesn't allow you to set seprate folders to target different areas.
What you say about that?

Hi Kashifa,
I would say, subdomains is a bad idea to start. If you havent started, I would suggest you to go in for a folder based URL. Sub folder URLs that is wisnetsol.com/qatar or something like taht would give you better mileage. Subdomains are often taken as separate domains by Google, so you would have to do all the hard work for the subdomain as well.

One server, two domains - robots.txt allow for one domain but not other?
Hello, I would like to create a single server with two domains pointing to it. Ex: domain1.com -> myserver.com/ domain2.com -> myserver.com/subfolder. The goal is to create two separate sites on one server. I would like the second domain ( /subfolder) to be fully indexed / SEO friendly and have the robots txt file allow search bots to crawl. However, the first domain (server root) I would like to keep non-indexed, and the robots.txt file disallowing any bots / indexing. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to tackle this one? Thanks!

Domains and Hosting Question
I bought hosting for unlimited domains on Godaddy. It's not a dedicated server. It was just $85 a year. I have unlimited latency but a limited amount of "space." I don't know a lot about hosting servers etc... My question is relatively simple. When I go in GoDaddy to my hosting. There is a site that shows up as hosted, and all of the other sites show up under that site in it's directory. If you type the name of the site I bought the hosted package on, then type a forward slash and the name of one of the other sites on the hosting package, you will actually go to the other website. What is this relationship? Is it normal? Does that make all of my websites subdomains of the main site (that I bought the hosting package on)? I don't fully comprehend how this effects everything...

Domain tld question
Hi all, I have a question regarding the ranking of exact match tld which is co.uk Currently I have a .com domain with PR of 3 and the problem is that it have one word in front of my desired keyword, so it's not exact match. I have managed to buy an exact match but it's co.uk The questions are: Will a co.uk rank better for UK than .com domain I am reading at SEOMOZ that exact match domain value is getting lower, so is it worth to redirect my current .com domain to co.uk just to get rid of that one word and start all over again with exact match. Thanks

Importance of SEO Friendly URLs
Hey SEOZ! How important do you all think SEO friendly URLs are to SEO. Here is an example: Non: http://www.domain.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=2964 Friendly: http://www.domain.com/product_name_here.html I have always heard mixed reviews but did an experiment comparing results on the same domain and actually noticed quite a difference with the friendly ones. Thanks!

Sub-domain dilema - variations
Hi All, We're creating a sub-domain for a new program launch on a client site and we need to choose the "right" sub-domain name that properly reflects the offering and hopefully keyword driven. The client is already using the preferred sub-domain name but until we get clarification that we can take it over, I'm doing my due diligence and expecting a worst case scenario in that we cannot use it. The current preferred sub-domain is only a landing page (not a full site) and it does NOT rank for anything and it's not being built out further. My question: Would pluralizing our preferred keyword have any effect in the way SEs see the two sub-domains as they're very closely related? hardcandy.sitename.com or hardcandies.sitename.com The new sub-domain would be a fully-functional-SEO-friendly site (well that's the plan anyway). Thanks for all your help.
