Competitor research
-
so i was doing some competitor research for the following domain and seomoz seems to be telling me that this domain has over a thousand links but that only 2 are external.
from surfing the site it seems that most of those links come from several years of weekly blogs.
will this domain be easy to overtake by setting up a good number of external links? what kind of number would i be looking at?

I would say it would be very easy to overtake that site. How many links would it take? Probably 1 good one or a handful of reasonable ones.
They have their domain history on their side. It isn't great, but they've had content up at least since 2008. However I don't see that they are doing anything else that couldn't be bettered in a day.

Hi. One of our competitors is ranking ahead of us on Google. Our site has a much stronger authority and much more quality links than this competitor. Would anyone have any explanations for this? Thanks
Hi Guys - I've noticed recently that one of our competitors is ranking extremely well on Google, while we seem to be fluctuating, along with other competitors, for our main keywords. Our site has a much stronger authority and much more quality links than this competitor and traffic is continuously increasing each month. Would anyone have any explanations as to why we may be seeing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Backlink count is WAY high vs. competitors
Hi all! My site was managed by a SEO company that is no longer around. I started to look for a new agency and in the process, found Moz and decided to try out the report. While running the report, found out that my I have 3K links vs 173/1600/6344 links that my three other competitors have. Any simple guidance will be appreciated.

Competitor analysis and broken links
I have just been looking at a competitors links and have discovered some of the links they have obtained dont actually exist when clicking through to the directory or blog in question, although still appear in opensiteexplorer. Is this common? and is it just a sign of bad link building practices?

Competitor ranking through SPAM
We have a competitor called SwitchWise who has done a whole heap of social bookmarking and article marketing, using a deceptive link with anchor text reading "i select electricity" which has got them ranking #2 in Australia for the term iselect (a big comparison company here in Aus). The articles are low value, the link is deceptive and it is generally bad for the consumer. I could copy their tactics for my client, but I'm concerned about the links eventually being devalued and the company placed in the sin bin. What is the best course of action as I really don't want to let them get away with this, either we need to be up there, or alternative we need to dislodge them. p.s I know this is not a great keyword, but it's more about stakeholder management in terms of what my client sees and how they interpret what we are doing relative to their competitors.

I'm looking at packages to help with link finding, outreach, acquisition and management. But I'd appreciate some views from fellow forum members on the best choice; BuzzStream Link-Assistant Link Research Tools Other? BuzzStream looks pretty promising to me. Has anyone else got any experience or views? Thanks
