Ezine Articles - Copied Content on Site
-
One of my clients has a bunch of articles on the normal article syndication sites.
They have duplicated these articles on their own site.
My instinct is to implement on the offending pages of the clients site.
Anyone with any experience of something similar?
Is this the right way to go?
Thanks in advance.
Justin

Cool thanks for your help...
-
Right - so you would be using the canonical tag on your clients' site to point to the ezine articles site. Otherwise it will just end up looking like duplicate content - but again, if you just want to noindex, follow the content then canonicaling won't be an issue.
-
Ezine articles seem to use the rel=canonical tag, wouldn't that force the engines to view them as the canonical source?
-
If you don't want them to appear in the index but still want them on the site for user reasons, noindex, follow is one way to do it - you could also use the rel=canonical tag to call out the original post as the canonical one.
-
Have also heard the rumour RE blogs
Should have probably stated that the articles are not perhaps as fantastic as i would like.
-
hmm... Perhaps you can move them to the blog (if you have one... From my understanding every site should have one) and have the old pages de-indexed from your google webmaster tools.
-
Thanks Donnie
I'm afraid the pages on the client site are static.

Simply trackback to the originals. As long as you trackback to the original content the search engines will know that this is not duplicate content.
If you are using Wordpress for your website simply click the "screen options" on top and check "send trackbacks." That will add the field.
I attached an example of the "screen options" tab with the "send trackbacks" selected.

Directory with Duplicate content? what to do?
Moz keeps finding loads of pages with duplicate content on my website. The problem is its a directory page to different locations. E.g if we were a clothes shop we would be listing our locations: www.sitename.com/locations/london www.sitename.com/locations/rome www.sitename.com/locations/germany The content on these pages is all the same, except for an embedded google map that shows the location of the place. The problem is that google thinks all these pages are duplicated content. Should i set a canonical link on every single page saying that www.sitename.com/locations/london is the main page? I don't know if i can use canonical links because the page content isn't identical because of the embedded map. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is it okay to copy and paste on page content into the meta description tag?
I have heard conflicting answers to this. I always figured that it was okay to selectively copy and paste on page content into the meta description tag.....especially if the onpage content is well written. How can it be duplicate content if it's pulling from the exact same page? Does anybody have any feedback from a credible source about this? Thanks.

How come this site does so well?
Hi Guys, It's bugging the crap out of me why this site does so well http://www.stagedinburgh.com/ when I look at it's link profile its so weak and terrible plus many links comes from the sites they own. Somehow the site out ranks many sites for search terms like edinburgh stag party, edinburgh stag do, edinburgh stag weekends. Am I missing something? They seem to only have links from 13 domains and they aint great. What am I missing?

Dealing with Spammy Affiliate Site Copies
We have a longstanding site that sells media files with a large number of digital products. We offer a referral program with rewards for those that tell others about us. In the last year, we have seen some sites popping up primarily in China that appear to be spammy looking advertisement based copies of our own site with product pages that link back to our actual products using a referral link/code. (no-follow links.) These sites started popping out more when we noticed that some of their pages were outranking our own actual product pages. Any thoughts on this? Our affiliate policy states that the affiliate program is meant to help and not harm our site. In one sense this is traffic to our site which is supposed to be a good thing, but if these pages are ranking above our own, that is not what we are wanting. I would bet these pages might get clicked on and due to the spammy nature of these sites, the user bounces and never actually gets to our website. How would you handle something like this? Thanks!! Craig

PDF on financial site that duplicates ~50% of site content
I have a financial advisor client who has a downloadable PDF on his site that contains about 9 pages of good info. Problem is much of the content can also be found on individual pages of his site. Is it best to noindex/follow the pdf? It would be great to let the few pages of original content be crawlable, but I'm concerned about the duplicate content aspect. Thanks --

What is a good content for google?
When we start to study SEO and how google see our webpage, one important point is to have good content. But, for beginners like me, we get lost on this. Is not so black and white: what for you is a good content? the text amount matters? there is any trick that all good content websites need to have?

On-Site Optimization Tips for Job site?
I am working on a job site that only ranks well for the homepage with very low ranking internal pages. My job pages do not rank what so ever and are database driven and often times turn to 404 pages after the job has been filled. The job pages have to no content either. Anybody have any technical on-site recommendations for a job site I am working on especially regarding my internal pages? (Cross Country Allied.com)
