How do I stop Spammy links?
-
I've just taken over a clients site, and they are clearly being penalized for theier previous agency having purchased from a link network. They have thousands of low value links.
Once I have identified them, how do I stop them? Is there a code, or a blocker or something that I can use to reject the links?
Thanks in advance guys.

Just a quick note that Google has recently said they ignore links from UpDowner already.
-
Not sure about the domain report option, but if enough webmasters report links from the same domain you can be sure that it will get deindexed/blacklisted soon enough.
Updowner, you will be one of them.

I guess they will create a 'report link' and 'report domain' tool as well.

Apparently google MAY be bringing in a link reporting tool in WMT. cant wait for the day.
But when you are talking thousands of links it would be no easy task.
I have been thinking about blocking specific IP's in htacess in regards to trying to combat spam links, not sure if it would work though, but you would surely be telling the bots you don't trust the site/domain.
Apparently the only thing to do is to submit a recon request, admit to G you've been caught up in some promis by an SEO company, and tell them you have tried to get them removed but you can;t, but when you are talking thousands of links......you may want to seriously consider starting form scratch if the recon request does not get accepted, at least keep the site on the back burner in the hope google does come out with the reporting tool and that way you will have a nice clean site half way developed too.
All the best.

Hi Joshua,
As far as I know there's no way you can control links pointing to your site (part of the argument with negative SEO) so all you can do is try and contact the sites to have the links removed. If they are that low quality it hopefully wouldn't be too long before the links are dis-counted, or the sites in question are deindexed.
I think every site will have a % of low quality links just because of the nature of content crawling sites and such, so I would focus your time on building good quality links and outweighing them in % terms.
Hope that helps!
Greg

Why Links from Top Level Domains doesn't Pass Link Equity?
Hello, I have a doubt about Equity-Passing links report of OpensiteExplorer.org According to Sam Weber http://moz.com/community/users/432678 links which pass value from one page to another including followed 301 and Meta refresh links are under Equity-Passing links. I am surprising after looking at the links report generated by opensiteexplorer.org. Most of the article and directory links which have low DA and PA are under Equity-Passing links. Whereas websites like EzineArticle or Articlebase which have good DA and PA are not found in either Equity-passing links or under only nofollow category. Please suggest me if the report of Opensiteexplorer is not good enough or the links from the site like Ezine Article doesn’t pass the link equity. Thanks.

When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building, is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it?
When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building (i.e. pushing out content that my client has created), is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it? Or should I create a landing page with the whitepaper included on it? I’m not sure if the client will be ok with this b/c I know they use the whitepaper for sales purposes to gain leads. For example, my pitch email would include a line such as this, "the whitepaper can be found at LINK and I'd love if you could share it with your readers." I think it may be weird/a little wrong to ask a webmaster to include a link on his site to a landing page with a form to get the whitepaper. Does this make sense? What have others done with whitepapers as Push Content for link building?

Internal linking anchor text with automated ASP.NET link building
Hi Everyone I really need some help here, the problem I have must be one that many have. I have a simple e-commerce style website so 1 product page can in fact get 40-50 internal links to it. These links come from a mixture of: 1. The parent category pages that the product sits on (Rugged PDA) and in turn the 10 filter pages of this category page (Rugged PDA, ordered by battery size). 2. Alternative product list on other product pages, So many products link to each other as alternatives. From Google analytics we can see that visitors like to browse product to product seeing 5 alternatives on each page with titles like "Smaller", "more rugged" etc. 3. Manufactuer pages, so we have a link to each product from each manufacturer home page where we talk lots about each manufacture we resell. We also have links from images used in the website. So its a nice usable website but we're finding that Google is still telling us in Webmaster tools that it thinks some links are dubious and we're trying to find out why. We only now have 190 external links to the website, most are internal and from the website or our blog on a subdomain. The problem we think is that we generate the category and products pages all dynamically so the anchor text is looking the same. Will this potentially create issues for us? Dave

Are these 15 links worth it
Hello, Are these 15 links worth the time?: http://seogadget.com/use-your-twitter-profile-for-link-building/ Since they're not site's with similar content, does all 15 count as juice-giving backlinks, or is it equivalent to just a couple of links from people closer to my niche? Thanks!

Buying links
I have 2 websites to pay monthly to gain links from, number 1 is on the homepage of a directory, it has a PA of 90 and DA of 88.
Link Building | | myloseo
the link will be on the right hand side along with 55 other featured sites.
these links are there throughout the whole site. number 2 is from a website with 20 max sponsored links on a page and will be one of the sub pages on the site with a PA of 74. How valuable if any would these links be? My current pa on the site i wish to send the links to is 26 Can i expect my PA to go up by much? Also i currently have 317 links from 7 root domains on my site will this effect the rank of the paid links? Thanks in advance0 -
Reciprocal links
Hi SEOmoz Pros, We have vendors from whom I was hoping to get links. To make it more enticing to them I was planning to select a small number of vendors (with good site metrics-PA, DA, PR) and create a "Featured Vendor" module on some pages that would link back to the vendor's site as well--thereby created reciprocal links. I was planning to only have one vendor to a page and only for the pages that we are targeting locally. My hope is to help boost the ranking of those pages. Is it okay to offer our vendors to link back to their site or should I ask for a one-way link back to our page and pitch it as exposure for their brand?? Lastly, does Google penalize for these types of links? Thanks!
