Website disappears from SE on a daily basis - comes back fine.
-
Our main website is Top 10 SERP with google.co.uk for photocopier and photocopiers. Every morning we disappear from SERPs for Photocopiers, while Photocopier is doing fine. Several people were able to duplicate the following issue:
1. Google.co.uk -> search photocopier -> we rank Top10
2. Google.co.uk -> search photocopiers -> we do not rank in top 100
3. Click on our website from the photocopier search results
4. Google.co.uk -> search photocopiers again -> we rank Top10 (which is what we usually get. After I do this once, the problem goes away.)
Results are consistent with me using a proxy service, or being logged in / out of my Google account. Note that SEO Moz keyword history does not show anything special with these two. My link profile is practically the same and I am certain we are not experiencing the Google dance. Has anyone been experiencing something similar?
The problem happens in the morning just before regular working hours and while night traffic is low, it is by no means zero. There is one known issue, as every now and again we are unable to access our website externally. Either our web server or the DNS server gets lazy and enters a state similar to power saving mode. As soon as someone gets a remote desktop connection going, it is back up. Since we are updating our website more often, I fear that we get crawled more often and Google might record these hicups. Still, external website monitoring tools say we have 100% uptime
Any ideas would be appreciated.

ok, apols for assuming name - just took it from user name and products.
Will have a think and reply if anything comes to mind. There are some gurus on here who will be to the rescue soon no doubt!

As it stands, we do not have major on-page issues with the website I mentioned (not Apogee Corp btw). Webmaster Tools show 2 minor crawl errors, and all bots are allowed to visit, with the exception of Majestic SEO. 2 folders are denied, since they are old remnants of an admin area now not in use.
Optimization issues are easy to fix, but I fear smth more sinister and hard to detect. Thanks for the answer.

Hi, bit of an odd one.
Anything in Webmaster Tools in Crawl Error/Stats?
Anything being blocked by robots.txt?
I'd definitely get the 'power saving' issue fixed too, shouldn't be happening in this day and age with any type of web server. If bot tries to visit site and gets lost/confused, it doesn't take long for it to move on.
Oh, btw, i'd fix your title tag on home page while you're at it, seems a bit long to me.
Good luck.
PS - presuming your site is apogeecorp your content is viewable both with and without www, so i'd fix that too by permanently redirecting one to the other, probably non-www to www.

Homepage only has disappeared from SERPs
I have a website that has been ranking really well with the home page for our most important keywords. 2nd position. A few days ago I noticed the home page was nowhere to be found in the SERPs. Not really knowing what to do I republished my Rapidweaver site and got the message that there were two index files. An index.html and index.php file which could cause problems. The home page has always been a html page so I have no idea how this was created. I deleted the php file from the file directory and resubmitted the homepage in webmaster tools for indexing. Within about half an hour the page was appearing in the SERPs again in my original position for the important keywords. Two days later and it's gone again. I've tried everything I can think of and resubmitted the page to Google for indexing. I can see it is being indexed as it comes up when I type the URL into the search bar but it will not come up in the search results either for my two keywords or the actual name of my business. When I type in business name it brings up lots of other pages from the site but not the home page. I've spoken to 3 SEO companies and nobody knows what is causing it. Please help with any suggestions this will definitely impact our business if we can't figure it out. Has this happened to anyone else? My website is NSFW but is www.aprilnites.com.au

Can one back-link fluctuates ranking of website with thousands of back-links?
It happend to our website. We have seen major ranking fluctuations for our website because of one back-link. What kind of links those can be? Why Google is not stopping them even though they claim that such back-links will be taken care of?

Review website - multiple pages of reviews of same item
Hi - I've been looking at review websites like tripadvisor - I looked at Tripadvisor's hotel reviews and the reviews may extend for several pages, yet they don't change title tags and so on, on each of the multiple pages? Surely it would be a good idea, from an SEO perspective, to change title tags (and perhaps other tags) for each of the multiple pages - even if the change was slight - e.g. "The White Swan Hotel - Reviews p 1" - "The White Swan Hotel - Reviews p 2" and so on? Am I missing something?

Google is not indexing an updated website
We just relaunched a website that has 5 years old, we maintain all the old URLs and articles but for some reason google is not picking up the new website https://www.navisyachts.com. In Google Webmaster Tools we can see the sitemap with over 1000 pages submitted but shows nothing as indexed. The site is loosing traffic rapidly and positions, from the SEO side all looks fine for me. What can be wrong? I’ll appreciate any help. The new website is built over Joomla 3.4, we have it here at MOZ and other than some minor details it doesn't show that something can be wrong with the website. Thank you.

Weird meta description for website launch
Hi all, We just launched a new website: http://www.allwatchapps.com/ There is no link yet, but everything seems allright in google webmaster tools: everypage seems to be indexed, and content keywords are good. However, when I search for "allwatchapps" in google, I got a meta description for the homepage: 26 mai 2014 - Contact. : + 33 (0)6.33.27.78.63 : info@allwatchapps.com : Grenoble - Lyon - Chambéry - Annecy - Paca - Paris ... It is the date of the page, which I want to disable (where does it com from?! I use Yoast SEO plugin and didn't find the option), and the footer contact info, why is that?... Thanks, best, Benoit.

Content Marketing: Should we build a separate website or built in site within the Website itself?
Hi Mozzers, Client: Big carpet cleaner player in the carpet cleaning industry Main Goal: Creating good content to Get more organic traffic to our main site Structure of the extra content: It will act like a blog but will be differentiated from the regular site by not selling anything but just creating good content. The look and design will be different from the client's site. SEO question: In terms of SEO, what would be the most beneficial for us to do, should we built in this new section/site outside or inside the client's site? I personally think that it should be separated from the main site because of the main reasons: A followed link to the main site Anchor texts implementation linking back to our service pages If we would to choose to build in this content, it would be highly beneficial for getting organic traffic within the main site but I am afraid this will not provide us any link juice since anchor texts won't be accounted the same since all of those would be located in the Nav bar of the main site. Can someone tell me what would be the best in terms of SEO? P.S: My boss doesn't agree with me and would rather go the second option (build in within the main site) that's why i am asking you guys what would be the most beneficial? Thank you Guys

Should I Combine 30 websites into one?
I have a Private health care company that I have just begun consulting for. Currently in addition to the main website serving the whole group, 30 individual sites which are for each of the hospitals in their group. Each has it's own domain. Each site, has practically identical content: something that will be addressed in my initial audits. But should I suggest that they combine all the sites into one domain, providing individual category pages for each hosptial, or am I really going to suggest that each of the 30 sites, create unique content of their own. This means thirty pages of content on "hip replacements" thirty different versions of "our treatement" etc, and bearing in mind they all run off the same CMS, even with different body text, the pages are going to be practically identical. It's a big call either way! The reason they started out with all these sites, is that each hospital is it's own cost centre and whilst the web development team is a centralized resource. They each have their own sites to try and rank indivdually for local searches, naturally as they will each tend to get customers from their own local area. Not every hospital provides the full range of treatments.

Lost positions, how to get them back?
Ok, like 1 year ago my site was doing good in google search engine. But I decided to change CMS and design of the site. Did some mistakes like, changed site links structure (when I notice it later I changed it back), then some of the pages were lost because I simply didn't need them on the new cms and there were no feature of keeping them. Site has a lot of backlinks and was strong in rankings. It's been almost a year or maybe already a year and I can't get even to top100 for those keywords... But I was in (top10-20) Site is still getting links, ranking well on yahoo and baidu, but google, just won't let my main keywords to come back. I rank for some that doesn't make sense to me and I even wasn't working on them.
