Do different hosting IP addresses really matter?

Hi all
It used to be (allegedly) the case that you should have all your sites on different Class Cs or Google would hit you with the spam hammer. Which I guess made some sense because back then they probably didn't have many other ways of detecting unnatural link networks.
But today with all their data on who is related to who, can this really matter any more?
I'd like to move 3 or 4 of our sites (all long-established with widely varied link sources) onto one server, one CMS install, one less headache but I wanted to check first in case I'm about to shoot myself in the foot.

You won't shoot yourself in the foot. I saw Matt Cutts comment on this once in a video years ago. The reasoning is that if you have hundreds of domains all registered in your name and on the same server, with little value, then yes Google will likely flag that as suspicious.
I have around 10 large personal websites for years that do well on the same IP.
If you can get an IP address cheaply and easily, sure why not. You'll be fine either way, though.

Questions About The Right Hosting
Hi All, I have a few questions about the right type of hosting that I should be using. I understand that many people say we should be using the best hosting that we can afford. However, when I have a website with just 650 pages / posts is it really worth worrying too much about where I am hosting. I am UK based so at the moment I am using a UK host along with a CDN. I have a unique IP address and on a server that has a limited amount of websites on it. The main question is there really any need to be looking at anything else. What can be the cause for difference in local rankings between mobile and desktop?

Mobile: Snackpack: 1, Organic : 10 I'm keen to improve on the Organic positions as this term is a lead generating one for me. My site is mobile friendly and scores 69/100 on the speed test. Do you think bumping the pagespeed well "into the green" would help improve it's position? Is there anything else I should look at?0 -

Google displaying different meta descriptions for the same URL but different keyword

Need Third Party Input. Our Web host blocked all bots including Google and myself because they believe SEO is slowing down their server.
I would like some third party input... partly for my sanity and also for my client. I have a client who runs a large online bookstore. The bookstore runs in Magento and the developers are also apparently the web host. (They actually run the servers.. I do not know if they are sitting under someones desk or are actually in a data center) Their server has been slowed down by local and foreign bots. They are under the impression my SEO services are sending spammer bots to crawl and slow down their site. To fix the problem they disallowed all bots. Everything, Google, Yahoo, Bing. They also banned my access from the site. My clients organic traffic instantly took a HUGE hit. (almost 50% of their traffic is organic and over 50% is Organic + Adwords most everything from Google) Their keyword rankings are taking a quick dive as well. Could someone please verify the following as true to help me illustrate to my client that this is completely unacceptable behavior on part of the host. I believe: 1.) You should never disavow ALL robots from your site as a solution for spam. As a matter of fact most of the bad bots ignore robots.txt anyways. It is a way to limit where Google searches (which is obviously a technique to be used) 2.) On site SEO work as well as link building, etc. is not responsible for foreign bots and scrappers putting a heavy load on the server. 3.) Their behavior will ultimately lead to a massive loss of rankings (already happening) and a huge loss of traffic (already happening) and ultimately since almost half the traffic is organic the client could expect to lose a large sum of revenue from purchases made by organic traffic since it will disappear. Please give your input and thoughts. I really appreciate it!

Rackspace UK Cloud IP - Traceroute
Hello, I recently moved to rackspace and before i signed made sure with them that i would get a UK based IP. It is a Cloud hosting solution. I have checked with whois and a few other sites and the IP is being shown as US, they asked me to do a traceroute and it shows up in the UK: http://network-tools.com/default.asp?prog=trace&host=164.177.146.74 can anyone confirm if this is UK based and ok from an seo point of view as we are targeting a UK audience. For a UK business where there is no .co.uk or .com opportunity, is it better to have a .net address or would .uk.com be better? Or no difference...This company is UK focussed only.
We have a niche keyword domain possibility but I am not sure which way, if any, is better. The .com and .co.uk options are not available but there are various other ones - including .org, .net, .uk.com. Is there any domain/seo benefit of one version over another? Any thought gratefully received..

Implications of hosting country versus actual trading country?
Unbeknown to me our web developers have hosted our UK e-commerce site (and only serving the UK & outer islands) on a US based server. Can this impact our SEO efforts? My further concern is when it comes to sending out emails and opt-in regulations - I am right to be concerned about this as well?
