Am I jumping the gun? Second guessing myself...
-
Hi,
I'm pretty new to SEO and I'm trying to figure out if I'm on the right track.
Mid May I rebuilt a website completely from .asp to .php, the original site was completely makeshift and had some really un-pretty code in it, not to mention the design was completely out of date.
Since I rebuilt it the search has slowed and then picked up a little now it's slowed to almost a stop. I know it hasn't been that long, but am I doing something wrong? I know the think i'm missing most is link-building which we are working on now, but is there something else I'm missing to make the search drop like this this past week? I feel like it's soo much better then before but I'm not seeing any results and now I'm really second guessing myself?
Any suggestions? please help!
the site: http://www.moondoggieinc.com
THANKS! KristyO

Thank you so much!
Working on fixing the page titles, they are 1/2 and 1/2 that way.
Is this the correct code to put in my .htaccess file to direct the .asp to .php pages?
RedirectMatch 301 (.*).asp$http://www.example.com$1.php
and then add in single redirects to the landing pages that don't have the same name?
THANKS!!!! KristyO

Hi Kristy,
It looks like you didn't 301 redirect the old site pages to your new site - I did a Google search, and the old asp pages return 404 (not found) errors when clicked on. This would certainly help explain your significant dropoff. Google doesn't know that your old pages have been migrated to new ones. In a very simplified way to describe this situation, you've starting from scratch - especially if the old site had link presence.
Also, I would recommend, in your titles, including your site name AFTER the page keywords.
For example, rather than:
Moondoggie Dog Boutique - Dog Outerwear
use
Dog Outerwear - Moondoggie Dog Boutique
I'm not sure whether you've installed Google Webmaster Tools - but it would help you immensely in this case
If you'd like some assistance with the redirection, you might want to briefly contract someone. A few hours should be all it would take. Fixing the redirection error might not be the solution to all your woes, but right now it's definitely a massive problem.
Cheers,
Dan

Hi,
Just a quick note, the images on the left are not loading, they are referencing your hard drive.
[file:///Macintosh%20HD/Users/kristyoconnor/Documents/SITE%](file:///Macintosh%20HD/Users/kristyoconnor/Documents/SITE%)
Just go to the site online, right click properties and you will see which ones are not showing up.

Crediting a second website when I have 2 setup depending on location
Hello Moz Community! I'm a bit stuck with this one and have read a few varying answers! Basically I have an eCommerce website on a .com domain name selling to the UK and Europe currently. I have recently created a very similar selling the same products but solely to the US with a .US domain name. What is the best practice with this, will the 2 separate sites be okay left as they are, or do I need to credit the UK site from the US site as they are incredibly similar? The sites are: www.rhinox-group.com www.rhinox-group.us Thanks in advance!

Client has an inexplicable jump in crawled pages being reported in Google Search Console
Recently a client of mine noticed an inexplicable jump in crawled pages being reported in Google Search Console. We researched the following culprits and found nothing: Rel=canonicals are put in place No SSL/non SSL duplication We used a tool to extrapolate search query page data from Google Search Insights; nothing unusual No dynamic pages being made on the website All necessary landing pages are in the XML sitemap Could this be a glitch in GSC? We are wondering what the heck is going on. 7eaeS

Guidelines for a second website business domain
Hi There, A client is setting up a second website selling the same products from a separate domain with the same descriptions etc. The site will have a separate URL, but will administered from the same CMS. The only difference is the new site has only one brand instead of several on the main site. E.G The main site sells all plumbing brands, the second site just one brand. Your thoughts and advice for best practise would be much appreciated. Andy (Marz Ventures)

Google Page Speed Score 91, But 5-8 Seconds to Download URL
Greetings MOZ Community: In Google Analytics under "Site Speed" under "Behavior" our home page has a page speed rank of 91 which I assume is pretty fast. However the "Average Page Load Time" is varies between 5 and 8 seconds, which seems very slow. My developers have made major efforts to optimize the home page URL (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com) for speed. The page has a carousel which I assume may be slowing it down. Is the download speed of this page detrimental to SEO? Or is the favorable Page Speed Score good enough. I am particularly concerned because the most competitive phrases are ranked on the home page. As it stands I am having a lot of difficulty ranking in the top ten for these pages. My concern is that the slow download speed of the home page could be holding back ranking of these terms. If necessary I can always redesign the home page and remove the carousel or reduce the number of listings in the carousel to speed it up. Is this worth investing effort in or is the speed good enough? Thanks, Alan

Two websites to merge into one - one has already been migrated - what about the second?
Hiya Mozzers, I have just been checking a website for duplication issues (this is a new website - they have just migrated across from old website to this new "main website"), and I found a wordpress blog on a different URL, duplicating the "main website"'s blog. Should I just close down this wordpress blog, 301 redirecting from the wordpress blog to the "main website"'s blog (equivalent blog posts to equivalent blog posts, with other indexed non-specific pages 301 redirected to "main website"'s blog homepage)? Thanks in advance for your help.

Not sure what its called - a jump page?
One of my competitors has something implemented on his website where if you click a link thats internal, it tries to load the page and then directs you to the affiliate website. I think its to help his bounce rate because it loads a secondary page, waits a few seconds, then redirects. Is this allowed? If it is, I think I should implement it. Any information would be helpful. He is running wordpress

Would love a second opinion
Hi Mozzers, i have been tirelessly working on our site www.palicomp.co.uk for the past few months auditing and fixing what we can, we have recently recovered from a mind bending google panda penalty, but i would really love a second quick glance from another mozzer to see if theres anything glaringly obvious that we have missed onpage or looks wrong if anyone has 2 minutes of time to give 🙂

Does 'jump to' navigation work with a hidden div?
Will jump to navigation work when using a hidden div? Basically, we use a navigation system such that when a user clicks on a title, it expands to show the rest of the article, each title has an anchor associated with it, but no where else on the page / site do we link to those anchors. In order to make jump to navigation work, we are considering adding a hidden div with links to the anchors. Does anyone have experience doing this? Did it work?
