How long before backlinks take effect?
-
In general how long would it take for Google to update the SERP after it found the external link activity?
Does it depend on the website the link is on as?
So for example, after it found a link on the BBC would the SERP update a lot quicker then after a link on a small blog?
Maybe Google updates on a certain day?

Thanks for quick reply,
I understand the first part, I was really looking for answer to the second part 'After Index', which sounds like it's a bit of a grey area.
See you say a few days and I would be inclined to agree but I have in the past created 5 links in a few days, stopped all activity and 8 days later then seen the movement.
I like to put myself in Google shoes and think what would I do and in this case, most likely want the link crawled more then once to make sure it was a genuine link.
So with this in mind maybe it's down to how frequently the link is found, BBC link could be found 3-4 times a day, where as a blog link could be found once in a week.
Just a thought.

There are 2 parts to this really: When will it spot the link and when will the benefit (if any) be applied.
When the link will be spotted will be very dependent on where it is. Higher authority, frequently changing sites get crawled more frequently and the more authoritative frequently changed content on those site more frequently still.
There is quite an interesting Matt Cutts video about how this works here: http://www.seroundtable.com/how-google-works-video-15055.html
Once Google is aware of the link it becomes much harder to say when that benefit then gets applied. You are probably going to see a few suggestions to this answer, as It is something that gets debated a bit. In truth it is really hard to measure in real life cases. Assuming that 1 link is enough to move the needle and you could somehow measure its effects in isolation I believe it is somewhere between "as soon as it is indexed" and "a few days". I don't believe that the old period recalculations still apply.
I think that the easiest way to test that would be via long tail anchor text. Anyone know if anyone has done this already?

Backlink question
When I create a website for my clients, I always put our website link in the footer of the description, just to say 'powered by ieatdoorframes' with a link to our website. On SEMrush, its showing as a negative backlink with the reason 'compound', suggesting its a 'money term'. I add this link as I've had success getting new work from clients who like the site we built. I'm new to these terminologies and wondering what I should do?

Should I remove backlink from templated page?
Hi, I manage 2 websites; website A and website B. Both websites are hosted on the same webserver. Website A is significantly more established than Website B with a better domain authority and much netter keyword rankings. I have a backlink from website A to Website B. The link is do-follow and is in a sidebar template that appears on just about every page of website A. Also, this template is used in nearly all of the subdomains of website A for a total of 1,362 pages. It occurs to me that Google might see this as unnatural. I am considering removing this link from the template and adding it to the content of the landing page so that we have only one link from Website A to Website B. It seems rational to me but I'd like a second opinion, please. Thanks in advance.

Do backlinks take effect as soon as they are crawled?
i have got 3 really good backlinks to a site of mine in the last month, however they have had no obvious effect yet. they are dofollow, all from county council websites, and I can see the backlinks in webmaster tools. does this mean that their seo affect has already been applied?

Has anyone ever shared a list of all their backlink sources?
I am currently in the research stage of finding more sites that I will be able to do things such as submit infographics, guest post, or get easy backlinks that are legit. I feel out of options, as I have already built links with a lot of sites but feel like I need more. Has anyone ever seen someone actually sharing all of their hard work by providing a list of all the sites that worked for them? Or does there come a point when really your only option left is to guest post or be a HARO source? I have been doing those things all along--I'm not just looking for easy, lazy links! Is there anyone who's gotten a site up to a high PR score who's felt out of options, like they've already done all they know how to do? I'd like your opinions. I know it seems like an outrageous question to ask, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I'd be willing to share sources too; I'm not just trying to mooch off people!

What does it mean to ping you web 2.0 backlinks?
We know that a major backlinking strategy is to create web 2.0 articles linking to your main money site. But these web 2.0 articles also need to be recognized by google, so people tell me I need to ping them? What does that mean?
