SEO For Personalized Content Pages
-
Hi,
We are building a site that has content that personalizes based each visitor. This is being done to serve the most relevant content for conversion purposes and NOT for SEO purposes.
So, there are many diferent versions of each page based on the visitor's location, device, browser, keyword-used, traffic source, etc.
Obviously, we don't want this to appear like cloaking (it is genuine content personalization) and wondered how Google would view this?
What is the safeguard for protecting the website from potential penalties?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

If the general search query matches what is on the page it should be fine. A lot of people tailor pages to location or technology based, just think of mobile versions of sites.
Only you would know are you trying to manipulate the engine? If not then all is well and you will not get penalized.

Better Graphic Design-Impact on SEO?
Will improving our site's graphic design but keeping identical structure, tags and text result in better Google? Are lower bounce rates greater time spent on a site by visitors rewarded by Google n the form of higher ranking? The theme behind this real estate site is the city itself, which is quite clever and applicable to Manhattan. Our home page as well as other URLs use lots of text. If we reduce text and use more images to make the pages more engaging, will our organic ranking decline? If we reduce text can we compensate by fuller completion of meta tags? Any thoughts???0 -
Split test content experiment - Why can't GA identify a winner here?
I have been running a content experiment for a short while now and GA has just ended it saying it cannot determine a winner. Looking at the images (links below), without any form of analysis I can already see a pattern of greater success in Variation 1. It ended with a 93% probability of outperforming the original yet the content experiment ended with no winner. Does this mean the 95% confidence threshold I set should've been lowered? Ultimately I'm going to choose this as my winner but why didn't GA push it as the winner? Is there something I am missing? Image 1 - Showing e-commerce performance (objective of split test was transactions) Image 2 - Showing conversions (same split test, same objective, just different report) Your thoughts and comments will be appreciated.

Better Conversions with Java Script Pop Up Form or with Independent Page (URL)?
Greetings MOZ Community? I manage a commercial real estate site (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com). Visitors view listings (for example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/listings/303-broadway-building-office-sublet-11189sf). If they want more details they click on the "Interested In This Space, Contact a Broker" button. They get directed to a contact us form like: http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/contact-us?from_listing=303-broadway-building-office-sublet-11189sf We are redesigning this form. Remove much of the text and allowing the visitor to check questions pertaining to the property, like "Schedule a Tour", "Get Floorplans", "Details on Similar Space'. Currently this conversion form is on its own URL, and as such has menus on top, which I am concerned could distract the visitor. Would we get better conversions if this form was a Java script pop up with no menus. That way there would be no distraction for the visitor and we would have a better chance of converting them. Any thoughts? Also, we are using Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to track conversions. Would changing to a Java Script pop up form have any implications for tracking? Thanks everyone!!! Alan

Adwords Remarketing Advice - Low Traffic Pages
Moz, I am just looking for a little advice if anyone has any experience with Google Adwords and remarketing in particular, I am currently looking through the Adwords help pages to gain a better understanding of how Adwords remarketing works, from what i gather this can be a really useful resource to use in certain industries and i have a lot of ideas and scenarios where i think this could work really well, I am just trying to get a good understanding of the how remarketing lists are built up, Using Rule based targeting for visitors that have visited a specific page that gains roughly 1200 unique visits every 60 days, so i have set the membership duration to 60 days, So if i use the visit of this page as a rule for my list, then in a little less than 60 days time then my custom ads should start appearing to these previous visitors ? My Question Am a right in thinking the remarketing list is like a funnel, once 1000 visitors are added to this list/funnel then my ads will start showing, but then as those visitors in the funnel have reached the 61st Day they will be removed, and replaced with the new visitors being added to the list for that day ? Aslong as my list remains above 1000 visitors it will continue to show, but if i were to drop below 1000 visits within that 60 days my ads would not be visible ? so i would need to potentially extend the membership period if this happens ? Apologies as i really struggled to explain this question as best as i can 🙂 Hope someone can drop me a quick comment and straighten this out to ensure that i am on the right track and i am understanding this correctly 🙂 Thanks a lot James

Why has my bounce rate gone in to orbit since moving the same content to a new site?!
I moved our site to a wordpress theme over the christmas break. All content is pretty much the same word for word, and I think the new site looks much, much better than the old one. Why then, has our overall bounce rate gone from 7-8%, up to 74%? Bounce rates for some KW focused internal pages have gone from 2-3% to similar 70+% in some cases. Just to confuse things further, I have also changed the name and branding for the site to differentiate us from a competitor and stop the confusion we've experienced at times. But, I can't see how the new logo would cause and extra 65% of visitors to leave straight off! I really don't want to go back to the old name and don't think that's the answer anyhow, but I may have to test it out of sheer desperation. There's only a static holding page for the old site now as a reference point for people searching the old name (not many). So I've attached a screenshot of how it looked below. Also at http://imgur.com/aM5o9. The new site is at flatroofs.co.uk. I have just noticed that by placing the previous 'more information' links a secondary menu in the left widget area rather than on the page, they are less noticeable especially if you scroll down to the bottom of a page, where the only links are in the footer? Again though, if 75% of people are put off this easily something else must be at play! Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Danny. aM5o9.png?1

Video Keno gambling SEO client !? Do I want em?
I have a guy who wants SEO help. Actually he owns several companies and is willing to put my ad before all the movies in a local theater plus an ad AND a Q&A section about SEO and Internet marketing in a small newspaper he mails to 7k businesses every month in exchange for my help. While I am excited about the exposure and I'm sure it would result in some business I'm not excited about touching anything related to gambling at ALL. Am I right in thinking this or should I treat it like just another client? He has a site where he teaches people how to win at video keno and sells this info packet. Porn and gambling. Everything I have read and heard is geared towards sites like this NOT coming up in search engines. Thoughts? Thanks and have an AWESOME week! Matthew

Any Suggestions for Building an SEO Friendly Auto Dealership Website?
Does anyone have suggestions for re-designing an auto dealership website? Is it possible to build a WordPress website that accepts an inventory feed from VinSolutions? I've been building websites and provided SEO services for years. This is my first time working in the auto industry. The issue I am facing is that our dealership currently have two websites. Both are built on 3rd party platforms and I am seriously considered rebuilding our website from scratch. Our first website was been provided to us by our Hyundai and the website is managed through Cobalt. While I like that the website is directly affiliated with Hyundai, it's very difficult to manage and I have yet to be able to get the techs to grant me access to the FTP server or provide help with installing Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools. The owner of our dealership never liked the Cobalt website so they decided to launch a second website that is created and managed by a company called Dealer Specialties. The site is also very difficult to administer and I only see problems later down the road. Is anyone familiar with working with auto dealership websites? I would love to hear your comments on the best way to proceed with our new web presence.

Landing Page Conversion Rates
I had a client claiming his industry (replacement home windows) conversion rate was around 15% based on his research. In my research i could find nothing of the sort, and really couldn't find a single place that provided this type of information. Anyone out there have some advice on where to research industry conversion rates (averages) or tools/thought processes to explore? Thanks! (these stats would primarily be used for goal setting and competitive analysis)
