Getting links - the actual final approach to do so
-
Hi All,
So once you use OSE Tool to point you in the right direction of sites that might be able to give you links, what are the best practices for then reaching out to the website? I get that you need to give value in your request for a link and offer something of value – but what else to think about??
Ie Call them, email them, email who? Follow up with phone call??? Do you just use the standard contact form on their website? Presumably you need to track all this, just do it in a spreadsheet?
What do you say in the email? Do you offer them a link (if you can?)
I guess it’s a thing that sounds easy enough – go get a link – but I would imagine that people who have done this enough with some success can maybe share some of the things that particularly worked or did not work…
At the moment it just seems a daunting / time consuming task - even thinking of getting an intern to help do all this – pros and cons to that as well???
Thanks for your time!

Read Paddys blog about this - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-build-links-without-fancy-tools
I commented with an example of the email I send http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-build-links-without-fancy-tools#jtc138789
I just keep it as simple and honest as possible

The task can be time consuming and many companies will get an intern or such like to do what I call the "donkey work" once the target sites have been identified.
For scalability email is usually better than phoning however some people may prefer the personal touch. Recent link building I have been involved with was contacting suppliers to the company I was working for and asking them to include a link to the site as the more visible the site and the more sales then the better it was for the supplier.
Another link building exercise for a different company involved contacting all business clients and asking them to host the link on pages they had set up to help their staff as the companyI was working on behalf provided client benefits that the company were offering to their staff.
With both these examples it was easy to explain in a sentence or two the benefits of the link building rather than just a speculative "please link to us" request. If you can work out what the relationship between the two sites or companies is then it may be easier to request and receive links.
I would track all this in a spreadsheet so you know who has responded positively or negatively and you can chase up those that say they will add a link if they haven't done so and also you can make sure you don't pester people who have already refused.
Hope this helps.

You need to identify what your angle will be are you after a guest post or a paid link or a banner etc
Then you need to separate your sites into high and low value targets - The low value targets just shoot over a generic pitch or offer with a subject and heading for that site. Email or use form on site -Start by saying you like their blog etc
For the high value ones call if you can. Create a blog post for them to post as a guest post and send it over to them to use with some info about you etc. Or start commenting on the blog to gain a relationship then contact and ask for a way to work together.

I guess one thing that certainly helps is to take your time: Linkbuilding is all about creating relationships and so don't use a bulk mail tool to approach the people you want to give you a link. Remember that there's always people behind a website and try to be as polite as you would be in the offline world, if you were asking somebody for a favor.
It often helps to take your time and to do some research on WHO is operating this website. Personalize your e-mail and if you make them an offer, offer them something that you think fits their needs 100%. Don't offer them something that has nothing to do with their topics or target audience.
Yes linkbuilding is time consuming. But very rewarding in the same way. Think about your link partners as partners and not as websites giving you something. Establish a meaningful connection and get those links in no time

How many links per week/month should a link building campaign acquire?
I am running a linkbuilding campaign for my company. I am mostly focusing on guest blogging opportunities and responding to emails from HARO. How many links would I have to acquire each week or month to be considered doing a good job over a 6 month or a year time period? Thank you,

Starting a new site's link campaign... how to approach it?
Over the last few years I have been building content in my niche that I believe rivals some of the best content out there and deserves some attention. Although I have a plan to produce alot more content which I believe will take the quality and quantity of my content into a position among the top 5 or top 10 sites in my niche in the next 1-2 years, I decided that making that massive investment in content production irrespective of a consistent marketing plan is a recipe for failure because I need the positive feedback loop from site visitors to begin now, not in 2 years. Right now I'm in a position where I'm producing content that I think is better than alot of what's out there, and it's just not ranking the way I believe it should. I think I need to do a legitimate link building campaign to establish the website a little more firmly and put it on more level ground with some of its competitors. In Majestic SEO's "fresh index", most of my site's immediate competition have no more than 500 new domains in their links, though the biggest one has some 2,000. How can any link building effort I might take on possibly compare to links of this scale? Is there some "rule of thumb" for how many quality links I should aim for to get on square ground with some of the competitors on the lowest rungs? And if I try to build that many links at once, do I risk sending signals of untrustworthiness? (Assume I'm not going to be looking for any shoddy links, and in general will aim to follow Google guidelines.)

Link Building - Affiliate Link Programs
I'm getting some conflicting information when researching this... I want to create the most organic link building strategy that not only gets high authority sites linking to a website, but relevant websites. I'm creating an affiliate link program where I link to partner and affiliate companies, who in turn link back to me. The question is where to put these links. I was initially thinking of putting them in the footer so they add credibility to every page, and in turn ask my affiliates to do the same thing. However; some sources say that Google no longer looks at links in the footer section. Is it true that Google doesn't count links in footer sections? And do you have any tips on creating this Affiliate Link Program?

Using an SEO Agency to build one-way links for you via link exchange
There are a number of SEO agencies which offer link building as part of their SEO offerings. I believe they build one-way links to the client site, by offering another link in exchange to the liking site. So, if the client site is "C", and link is being requested from site "A", the site "A" owner is offered a link from site "B" in return. Is this a good and/or recommended practice?

Making sure links get indexed by google?
Hi I currently submitted to 30 seo directories & I just want to make sure my links get indexed by google so the link value passes onto my site. Any suggestions about getting my links indexed? I was thinking of either pinging or social book marketing the links! What's your view, thanks.

Our competitor, Gaiam.com is able to get links back from Youtube. How are they doing this?
When I use Open Site Explorer to look at our competitor's link profile, I notice that Gaiam.com is getting lots of valuable links from their videos on Youtube. We have a lot of videos on Youtube as well and are not receiving links back. What is the secret? Our website address is fully shown in the profile and we seem to match them - what are we missing? Thanks

Using parked domain page to get 50k+ of low quality links, good idea?
Hi all, I'm managing the seo for a hosting company. We have a lot of parked domains with a parked domain page. This will now be updated to promote our products. When this page is updated it will give 50k+ of low quality links to specific pages almost overnight. We curently don't have a very good seo ranking for our keywords, so there is little risk on the downside in the short term. Do you have any suggestions as to how I should go about this? Some alternatives off the top of my head: 1. get the page up an focus all the link equity on relevant pages with keywords in anchor text 2. add noindex / nofollowto all pages or only part of them to avoid puishment 3. add noindex / to the majority of the pages and "release" a percentage every week or so to avoid a "link bomb" Thanks for any and all input!
