Website title question
-
Say you have a website url of a rather competitive keyword phrase, would it be beneficial for me to go ahead and name my site title the same as the url? And also should my site title go through every page, or should i consider having slight variations throughout the pages?
for example: page title | site title or page title| slight varation of title on sub page?
**edit -
to further expand on the question a bit also, if my google places has the company name on _there - would it be effective to go ahead and use the company name in my site title? _
_Also if i have the main keyword in the breadcrumb as the home, does that effect my SEO credibility if it shows up on all the pages? _

THanks for the replies.
Basically The Clients Company name is ARS Inspection Services and the domain we have is houstonhouseinspection.com
Home Inspector and Home Inspections are the main things searched for.
I'm just struggling with how to position this correctly to maximize this long term.
I've done more on a software front than i have the full onslaught of SEO. I'm really trying to grasp the correct way to structure this site so that it doesn't die a quick death.
It's such a long domain name, that i tend to get worried about having super long urls for services(standard section/ specialized) and service areas...(houston and surrounding cities)
Currently i have services as houstonhouseinspection.com/inspection-services/general-services and same thing but /specialized-services

Yes I agree with Broadbeach and to be honest unless you are already an established brand I would focus the primary keyword at the beginning of the title and add your brand on the end. Making sure to vary throughout your pages.
Some people would say to go for a keyword rich domain name, but ideally you should be looking at a long term strategy on how you want to build the business. The work you put into promoting your business with both online and offline promotion will gradually increase the brand name traffic.
Structure your URL in away that shows the brand name then the keyword(S) you are focusing on:
http://www.brand.com/key-word-one
http://www.brand.com/key-word-two
Make sure that you are not forcing keywords in the URL and that is relevant to the title and page content.
Hope this helps.

Hi tgr0ss,
If you chose for website URL that consists of keywords, it still carries some ranking weight (not much though, and it will decrease over time). Myself, I prefer the company name as the URL, as it good for branding and it doesn't look like you are trying to force your rankings to go higher.
In regards to your titles, each page should have an unique title tag. As you are pro member, you can see in your campaigns that there are "Duplicate Page Title" errors. What I prefer is the following structure:
Keyword 1 | Keyword 2 | Company Name
Keyword 1, Keyword 2 | Location | Company Name
And be sure to keep the length of the title tag under 70 character, so it won't be shortened in the search results.
Best of luck!

Are Multiple Page Titles hurting my rankings
The platform that built our website has, for some reason, put multiple page titles on all of our webpages: https://www.backyardadventures.com/ If you open this page and "View Page Source" you will see that there are 50 page title tags (). There is one with our actual page title, but there are 49 others that look like this: <title></span><span class="html-tag">lock</span><span class="html-tag"></title> or <title></span><span class="html-tag">bubbles2</span><span class="html-tag"></title> are just two of the examples. The company said that because they are in a svg tag () they are fine. The title tags show up on some of the Moz tools. Is this effecting our rankings?

Changing site title
I'm wondering what the procedure and implications are of changing my sites tile? I realise that my Having my keyword in my sites title whilst chasing the same keyword in articles may be causing over optimization. The slug also takes on the article title too, in effect giving me the keyword three times before I've even written my article. Example below. Imaginary site title : soap benefits.org Article: The essential guide to making homemade soap Slug: The-essential-guide-to-making-homemade-soap As you can see, soap has now been mentioned three times, not including excerpt/meta description or image alt tags. As most of the article titles would contain my supposed keyword "soap" I'm thinking the best option would be to change site title with allinoneseo (that possible?) and change the slug to something relevant, giving me more room to escape over optimization. Does this sound sensible? I don't have that many articles so if I had to change other things it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. It seems a pity to loose my sites title I picked, but if I end up writing hundreds of articles this would be a problem. Help appreciated.

Getting access to clients websites for onsite seo
I understand on site seo fine, as I have tweeked up my own website a fair bit. But I am thinking about doing Onsite and Offsite SEO for clients, as I have had a few request now. So my question is what is the best way to get access to clients websites. So I can make the required adjustments. I have one client, who had a company create a website for him, but they have since closed down.

Are hyphens not a good thing in page titles?
I am pretty sure hyphens are looked at as spaces no matter what programming language you are using for text purposes. The On-page Report Card is not counting them as spaces in the page title, therefore, we're not getting the grade for having the keyword in the page title because it's divided by hyphens. Is this a fix that needs to be implemented into the SEOmoz app or should I not have hyphens in the title or does it really not matter? Up for discussion! Thanks!

Product Title Formating Question
The majority of the products I sell require lengthy product titles, I have 600+ items that have titles over 70+ characters. In the interest of reducing the character count (Product Feeds) I'm trying to eliminate unnecessary "stop words" in the titles, such as "and", "with" etc.. I've listed an example of a current product listing below, followed by two different formats to reduce the character count. Which one if any is better for SEO or should I leave my titles alone and stick with my original format? Current Listing Example: DeWalt Dual Comfort Safety Glasses with Black Frame and Clear Anti-Fog Lens Suggested Listing Example: DeWalt Dual Comfort Safety Glasses-Black Frame-Clear Anti-Fog Lens DeWalt Dual Comfort Safety Glasses/Black Frame/Clear Anti-Fog Lens
