How do I 301 redirect a number of pages to one page
-
I want to redirect all pages in /folder_A /folder_B to /folder_A/index.php.
Can I just write one or two lines of code to .htaccess to do that?
-
Strange.
How about something like this:
RewriteRule ^folder_B/(.*)$ /folder_A/index.php [R=301,L]I'm not an expert in RegEx or Rewrite rules, so there could be som errors in there
Good luck!

Its actually phpLD and I'm trying to do it with .htaccess.
For some reason the code below didn't work for me
RedirectMatch 301 /folder_A/folder_B/(.*) /folder_A/index.php

Nima what platform are you using?
Is it PHP or ASP? And any specific CMS?
With wordpress all you have to do is to install a redirection plugin and you are good to go... but if you have a normal php based website you have to write the following code in your .htaccess file.
Redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.yoursite.com/newpage.html
_ Redirect 301 /oldpage2.html http://www.yoursite.com/newpage.html_
If you are on a ASP platform you have to look in to your IIS and then work accordingly.

Hi Nima.
Is this perhaps possible to do with a RedirectMatch? Something like:
RedirectMatch 301 /folder_A/folder_B/(.*) /folder_A/index.php

How to Choose destination page for a 301 redirect?
I am doing some SEO for a wedding chapel in Vegas. There are some old packages that no longer exist and the bounce rate for the page is high so I am planning to 301 the page. How to best determine the best 301 destination? I have a few options. As an example the page was optimized for garden weddings. The page itself does not place well in the SERPS for garden weddings in Las Vegas, but our outdoor wedding packages in Las Vegas page places in the top 10. So that page is in an option. However, there is a different location that has a garden setting. Is that a better choice? Some content might match better than others, but any page I choose would be relevant content. Thank you so much 🙂

1000 Pages on old website. What to do with the 301 redirects for this domain?
Hi Moz Community, I have a 301 redirect question... I just acquired an old domain: Totally in my niche Domain is 14 years old Website exists of 1000 pages Great amount of backlinks Website is offline since about 2 weeks Will place a new website online asap with new url structure For the 50 best scoring pages I wrote a new, but fully comparable/related article. I will put a 301 redirect from those old to the new pages. My question: What to do with the 950 other url's? Should I put a 301 redirect to the homepage? Should I forward those pages to the 404 page? Should I divide the 950 url's with a 301 redirect to the 50 new ones? Another solution maybe? Any idea what would be the best solution so we can save as much Google juice as possible? Thanks in advance!

301 Redirect keep html files on server?
Hello just one quick question which came up in the discussion here: http://moz.com/community/q/take-a-good-amount-of-existing-landing-pages-offline-because-of-low-traffic-cannibalism-and-thin-content When I do 301 redirects where I put together content from 2 pages, should I keep the page/html which redirects on the server? Or should I delete? Or does it make no difference at all?

Best practice when reducing the number of pages
Hi guys, I have recently changed one of our sites pages from having 1 main department page that links off to 6 others to showing all the products on one long page in an effort to have one authoritative page for this product type that can then be promoted on its own rather than promoting 7 pages and thus watering down any value. My question is now I have removed the links to the old pages should I just delete these pages altogether and setup redirects or should I leave them up as individual landing pages for those smaller product groups? If you look at the page below you can still access the smaller pages from the links in the jquery banner. http://www.orderblinds.co.uk/dept/wooden-venetian-blinds_d0161.htm Thank you in advance, Matt

Changing title tags, do we need 301 redirects
I found many duplicate title tags and I'm in the process of changing it Do I need 301 redirects in place when I switch it? I am only changing the title tag. Also, we are switching over to a new site very soon, I am worried that we might be using too many 301 redirect "hops" because we are doing a lot of optimization as well. (video from matt cutts describing 301 redirects and hops: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1lVPrYoBkA. Does anyone have any experience in doing too many redirect hops that it affected your rankings? Any good ideas to avoid this?

Static site to wordpress - avoiding 301 redirects
Moving our static website to wordpress, pages currently end in the .htm extension and for reasons of me having to do all the moving myself and wanting to preserve link equity is there any way I can run the pages with a .htm extension in Wordpress? Tried using a plug-in by Daddy Design but it seems a bit hit and miss at times. I basically need to keep the url's the same as I will not be able to get the vast majority of my links altered to the new pages, plus I am doing this by myself!

Number of Indexed Pages in Webmaster Tools
My # of indexed pages in Webmaster Tools fluctuates greatly. Compared to the # of URLs submitted (4700), we have 3000 indexed. The other day, all 4700 were indexed. Why does it keep changing? I obviously want all of them indexed right? What can I do to make that happen?

301 Redirect for homepage with language code
In my multilingual Magento store, I want to redirect the hompage URL with an added language code to the base URL. For example, I want to redirect http://www.mysite.com/tw/ to http://www.mysite.com/ which has the exact same content. Using a canonical URL will help with search engines, but I would just rather nip the problem in the butt by not showing http://www.mysite.com/tw/ to visitors in the first place. Problem is that I don't want (can't have) all /tw/ removed from URLs due to Magento limitations, so I just want to know how to redirect this single URL. Since rewrites are on, adding Redirect 301 /tw http://www.88kbbq.com would redirect all URLs with the /tw/ language code to ones without. Not an option. Hope folks can lend a hand here.
