% of the time you find email addresses - broken link building
-
Hello,
What percentage of the time do you find an exact email address of the person to contact when doing broken link building?
And what do you do if you can't find an email address?
Always interested in more tools if I need them, my last post here brought out several good tools.
Thank you.

I would recommend doing whatever it takes to find the contact information. Also take a look at these two articles they will help you:

So for broken link building, what's an algorithm?:
Like
-
Look for webmaster contact info
-
try whois
-
email webmaster@site.com
-
email admin@site.com and info@site.com
The above (1) - (4) are just an example. What do you recommend?

To report broken links, you will usually want to report this to a webmaster. So if you are unable to find their email address you can always try standard email address formats.
For example, if you find a broken link on brokelink.com, try emailing to webmaster@brokelink.com or postmaster@brokelink.com. You can even try to contact someone for general inquires so they can forward your email to the right person or give you the correct email address. To do this (using the example above), I would try info@brokelink.com or admin@brokelink.com
If you are able to spot a name on the website but can't find their corresponding email address, you can use a combination of Rapportive and this custom google doc - bit.ly/name2email - to help you discover the correct email address. Here is the blog post on Distilled where this idea was derived - http://www.distilled.net/blog/miscellaneous/find-almost-anybodys-email-address/
-
You can always use who.is to find out who the site is registered to I also remember this question being asked in the past: http://www.seomoz.org/q/finding-specific-name-to-send-email-to-broken-link-building

Value of no-follow links
I'm curious to understand roughly how much % of value a no-follow link has in building authority relative to a do-follow link? I understand that Google seems consistently and growingly focused on value - ie. is the link valuable in growing the business, irregardless of SEO - and perhaps therefore the no-follow / do-follow distinction is becoming a more unnecessary dichotomy. How does Google look at do-follow vs no-follow links? And how much weight now is really given to one compared to the other?

How to handle broken links to phantom pages appearing in webmaster tools
Hi,Would love to hear different experiences and thoughts on this one. We have a site that is plagued with 404's in the Webmaster Tools. A significant number of them have never existed, for instance affiliates have linked to them with the wrong URL or scraper sites have linked to them with a truncated version of the URL and an ellipsis eg; /my-nonexistent... What's the best way to handle these? If we do nothing and mark as fixed, they reappear in the broken links report. If we 301 redirect and mark as fixed they reappear. We tried 410 (gone forever) and marking as fixed; they re-appeared. We have a lot of legacy broken links and we would really like to clean up our WMT broken link profile - does anyone know of a way we can make these links to non extistent pages disappear once and for all? Many thanks in advance!

Link from Google.com
Hi guys I've just seen a website get a link from Google's Webmaster Snippet testing tool. Basically, they've linked to a results page for their own website test. Here's an example of what this would look like for a result on my website. http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.impression.co.uk There's a meta nofollow, but I just wondered what everyone's take is on Trust, etc, passing down? (Don't worry, I'm not encouraging people to go out spamming links to results pages!) Looking forward to some interesting responses!

Do links from twitter count in SEOMoz's Toolbar link count?
I am using the Chrome extension and looking at a SERP, when a page is said to have 2000 incoming links, does that include tweets with a link back to this page? What about retweets. Are those counted separately or as one? And what about independent tweets that have exactly the same content (tweet text + link)

Links with Parameters
The links from the home page to some internal pages on my site have been coded in the following format by my tech guys: www.abc.com/tools/page.html?hpint_id=xyz If I specify within my Google Webmaster tools that the parameter ?hpint_id should be ignored and content for the user does not change, Will Google credit me for a link from the home page or am I losing something here. Many thanks in advance

Are Links from Homepage safe?
I have the option of getting a link from 2 websites home pages. My site is a financial service website. I want to know if it is safe to do so. The first site is a hotel site, so their content has no relation to my site And the second is a Google News website about finances They have offered me a section in the sidebar to have a sentence or 2 about my site with a link. Can you tell me would these be safe to get? I don't want to be hit by any penalty
