Should we crawl user profiles?
-
Hi there,
We have a service whereby we measure people's personalities and reputation.
We would like to be able to search: "Reputation of XXX" and you would find the particular reputation profile of that person.
However the differences for each page are limited. Effectively the name, and a few numbers that measure such reputation.
Would crawling these profiles affect us due to "thin content"? Would you consider any alternative strategy?
Thanks!

Yes, you probably wont do too well in rankings if you just have a single number/name difference for many pages. Maybe add in more unique information related to that person? e.g. where you got your information, where you got information from, last 3 tweets/status updates, etc. Although this is all aggregate content (which Google still considers inferior to unique content) it should help you rank in addition to giving your users more useful information.

Bot Crawling issues
Dear all, Is this cache:www.subhavaastu.com is not working now with Google. Why it is not showing when the site is crawled. What were the new algorithms which Google is adopted? in my searches of all of my site internal links of www.SubhaVaastu.com, I observed only 404 instead of Google visiting time and date. After observing this 404 of each of my site links, I understand Google stopped crawling my site. Some more examples are shown below with other websites: cache:www.vastuwebsite.com ("NOT" showing when Google visited this site) cache:www.vastuconsultantusa.com ("NOT" showing when Google visited this site) cache:www.shubhavaastu.com ("NOT" showing when Google visited this site) cache:www.subhavastu.com (Showing when Google visited this site) To my surprise, I noticed that Google crawled latest links in my site, which I added a new link (https://www.subhavaastu.com/remove-negativity.html) just 10 days back, this new link was clearly crawled by Google. I typed "remove negativity subhavaastu", I saw the results with this new page in the SERP, but on the same way when I typed "cache:www.subhavaastu.com/remove-negativity.html", it is showing again 404. what is happening with Google, is Google is following any new algorithms now. Is google changed any new concept? or, is my site is penalized in any case, I think it may not be, because if my site is penalized, then Google should not visit the new links and should not show the results with my site. Coming with my site, its pure from viruses, no malicious codes. Indeed it's an article based site, which has a good reputation. This domain is taken in the year 2003. We never spam anywhere we never did any wrong methods. If my site is penalized, then is it manual penalized or bot penalized. I thoroughly checked webmaster tools and google console, I never found any notices or any note from Google. Require experts analyzation on this doubt. Thanks in Advance.

Celebrity Profile On The Side of Google For High Profile Person
Hello! When I google "Justin Timberlake" I see web search results and a sidebar. See image below: http://screencast.com/t/qwYeiFZQRzT How does one get their results to display like this? Is this something that Google creates automatically or is it something the celebrity initiates/creates on their behalf. Does the celebrity have any options to choose from as to what displays on this sidebar? What is this called? I look forward to your response. qwYeiFZQRzT

Is user engagement a ranking signal?
Read something about user engagement might be a signal that Google uses, along with links and on-site optimisation, to decide if a search result goes up or down. What should I believe and what are the developments in this field?

Reasons for a sharp decline in pages crawled
Hello! I have a site I've been tracking using Moz since July. The site is mainly stagnant with some on page content updates. Starting the first week of December, Moz crawler diagnostics showed that the number of pages crawled decreased from 300 to 100 in a week. So did the number of errors through. So crawler issues went from 275 to 50 and total pages crawled went from 190 to 125 in a week and this number has stayed the same for the last 5 weeks. Are the drops a red flag? Or is it ok since errors decreased also? Has anyone else experienced this and found an issue? FYI: sitemap exists and is submitted via webmaster tools. GWT shows no crawler errors nor blocked URLs.

Cleaning up anchor text profile
Hello, I've got 2 questions: I've narrowed down the most important anchor text to change in this spreadsheet (note the legend) We're not ranking like we used to for a few keywords including the main keyword "NLP" (1) Should we remove the links from the 3 directories and the one sitewide footer link or should we change to branded anchor text? The names of our company are NLPCA.COM NLP and Coaching Institute of California NLP and Coaching Institute (2) Thus, I think "NLP California" will not work as branded anchor text even though some people call us that. Correct?

Backlink profile
Hi there Thanks for everyone here for their posts. As a newbie (with dozens of SEO providers asking me to pay them!), I was wondering if there's a preferred / better backlink profile to target in light of Panda/Penguin. I get a lot of companies offering 1000's of profile creations, which seems worthless to me! Surely certain types of links (local vs international), blogs, articles etc, have more value just through the fact that they offer something to the user who sees it (and hopefully that something is sticky, high quality content!) I understand that there is no magic formula, but at least want to know whats not worth doing and working backwards from there. Any opinions from users who have ranked well recently? I've got a mailbox full of sales pitches, so would be good to see this from an expert's eyes! Thanks in advance Regards

Since authorship markup requires a domain email, how can a community website allow users to link their Google+ profile?
It seems that Google now requires authors to have a valid email on the domain. This is easy for the traditional web publication. But what about community websites like SEOmoz? How can a community website allow users to link their Google+ profile? Will community websites like SEOmoz be required to 1. Give all users a domain email 2. Ask users to validate the email address with Google? Seems overly complicated.
