Does Having Links on this blog Hurt or Help?
-
Hello,
I created a wordpress blog a while back, http://plastic-bins.com/
If you go into one of the pages on the blog (for example: http://plastic-bins.com/plastic-shelf-bins/ ) you will notice a link after the text/content telling you where you can purchase the stuff that is talked about on that page.
There is one link back to the e-commerce site on every category page on the blog. Does anyone know if these links will help me or hurt me in terms of ranking in the SERPS?
Thanks
-
Well plastic-bins.com does not have a page rank, but it is definitely relevant to your website. I really don't think it would hurt your rankings. I would choose a related long tail keyword that is not too difficult but still has some search volume (that you are not optimizing on the actual website) and optimize for it on the blog. Try to get visitors to the blog through that keyword and then send them to an internal landing page on your website via anchor text with a keyword you are optimizing for on that internal page. Maybe that could help generate some traffic and conversions...

An absolute pleasure, please keep us posted and let us know if our advise assisted you with your rankings.
Good luck!

Thanks to you both

Good point Oleg!

Hi Prime85,
There's quite a bit to this actually. I see that the link to "Plastic Bins", actually clicks through to monsterbins.com, ie. a different website. The crux of the matter here is that a link from the plastic-bins.com/plastic-shelf-bins/ website to the monsterbins.com website will add value provided the plastic-bins.com page has a decent authority and is relavant to the page it is linking too. So, in other words, you can use the Mozbar to see the page authority of the plastic-bins.com/plastic-shelf-bins/ page and compare that to the page it's linking too. Ideally, you'd want the authority to be the same or more on the plastic-bins.com/plastic-shelf-bins/ page and to ensure that the content is relevant (not duplicate either).
If you're hoping for those links to offer value through to monsterbins.com, I would suggest taking time to carefully look at the SEO on the pages, I see issues in your meta data and other areas. The SEOmoz On-Page Optimization tool is a fantastic tool to assist you with this.
I hope that helps?

Looks like you vary up the anchor text and link to page - if you didn't do this, it might be considered sitewide (which is no bueno). The way you have it now (and since you don't have that many category pages) should help with SERPs.

Should we Nofollow Social Links?
I've been asked the question of whether if we should nofollow all of our social links, would this be a wise thing to do? I'm not exactly getting a clear answer from search results and thought you guys would be best to ask 🙂 Thanks in advance.

Do you still loose 15% of value of inbound links when you redirect your site from http to https (so all inbound links to http are being redirected to https version)?
I know when you redesign your on website, you loose about 15% internally due to the 301 redirects (see moz article: https://moz.com/blog/accidental-seo-tests-how-301-redirects-are-likely-impacting-your-brand), but I'm wondering if that also applies to value of inbound links when you redirect your http://www.sitename.com to https://www.sitename.com. I appreciate your help!

Redirect Process for Moving a Blog
Hi, I've read several articles about the correct process for moving a blog from a subdomain to the main root domain but am not quite 100% sure as to what to do in our scenario. They were hosting their blog on Hubspot which puts the blog on a sub-domain "blog.rootdomain.com". Realizing it isn't benefiting the main website for SEO they want to move it to the main website. I understand we have to redirect the Hubspot "blog." pages to the new "rootdomain.com/blog" pages but when transferred over (it's a WordPress site) it shows the dates. So, the URL is "rootdomain.com/blog/year/month/title". They want to remove the date. Does that mean the URL must be re-written then redirected so that there's no date showing? There's over 300 posts which will have to be redirected from the Hubspot URLs. Is there a way to avoid setting up the second redirect to remove the dates or make it easier so it isn't one page at a time?

Will adding a mini directory to our blog with lots of outgoing no follow links harm our authority and context
We are an adventure travel tour company, who run hiking, kayaking, biking adventures in several countries. We have a travel tour operator website with a blog in a sub folder of the site. We want to add a section/category in the blog itself with a hiking club mini directory, that lists all hiking clubs in 1 or 2 specific countries. The reason we want to do this is because the people searching online for these clubs are our target market and potential clients. We hope to rank for some of these searches, and encourage interest in our blog/website in the process. We also want the potential to build relationships with these clubs. The question I want to ask is: if we add say 100 to 200 listings, and make all outgoing links no follow, will this harm our page authority, reputation with SE's or pose any other risk for our site. The other question is, do you think that this will dilute the context of our content - as its slightly different in context to the rest of our site content. Are we better to set up a separate site for this purpose.

Someone is building anchor text links with child porn keywords..help :-(
Hey Everyone; I recently found that there are tons of links to my url (30+) from several sites with the anchor text "download child porn, kiddie porn, and the likes". Although the sites linking to us where the person built the links do not have this content (thank god) it is just my url + the horrible anchor text someone is putting. [added image] Obviously I would not do that to my own site especially since I was ranked for over 15 keywords in the top 5 spots on Google and Bing. I am guessing its a competitor and I am wondering that is there any way I can remove them? Is this negative seo? Also could this be the reason my site has dropped off google page 1 last month for all my positions? I am consistently trying to rebuild but my positions are flying all over the place. Im going from ranking #12 one week to #198 the next; then to #60 and finally not even on google or bing anymore; then back to #50, etc for the past month and a half... Its very aggravating and it has hurt a few of my websites; im at a total loss on how to recover now if this is the case...It seems they have started to build these links in January from what I can find on the postings.. Thank you SEOMOZ im so happy im a member now. Any suggestions on how i can get these links off or if it is why my site has lost its original rankings.. Should I just can my website and start all over with a different URL? How can I watch out for this in the future? Any help would be so so so greatly appreciated and valued 🙂 xpVjMw8

Forum Profile Links
Are they really important? Many preach they are, and there are tonnes of services out there who give you thousands of forum profile links in no time. I strictly believe in genuine links built the hard way, and definitely don't want to get into anything which is black hat. Please suggest if building several Forum Profile Links is an appropriate way of building links?

Tracking Links Tool
I think someone may be trying to harm my site by adding spammy links so I want to track the links going to my site on a daily basis. Any tool suggestions? Majestic SEO is great for getting an overall picture of my links, but is not updated daily. Thanks!
