Manual Penalty Removed - Recovery Times...
-
Howdy Mozzers,
For anyone who has had experience of a manual penalty i'd appreciate your feedback.
How long did it take to recover from a Manual Penalty?
Of course every situation is different and its only been 8 days so perhaps it's to soon.
Below is the email we received, I highlighted "believed" they didn't state we had. We highlighted a bunch of back links we didn't like however most of these remain in our profile in GWT so not sure what was really the problem.
"Previously the webspam team had taken manual action on your site because we believed it violated our quality guidelines. After reviewing your reconsideration request, we have revoked this manual action. It may take some time before our indexing and ranking systems are updated to reflect the new status of your site."
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
-
That was the original email - Google has detected evidence of unnatural link building.
We're still not entirely sure what caused the issue. I assume it was in our last reconsideration request but at that point we were just hoping.
-
Unfortunately there is no warning given at all for sites hit by Penguin. Hopefully yours is just a manual unnatural links penalty!
-
Hi Marie,
Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully it won't be months as we have already been suffering since May.
If there are underlying algorithmic issues related to Penguin...we would have a notice right?
Thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated.

Forehead slapping moment, I know of this. Just for some reason hadn't thought to give it a go!
Thanks you. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.
Ps. if you don't want more people to know, perhaps take it off the public domain! Ha

I've seen some sites come back within a day or two of a manual penalty being removed. But, for others it can take a couple of weeks or even a few months. The difference is the degree of "spamminess" that you had before the penalty. If you had some really nasty blackhat stuff going on then you're more likely to have a longer penalty.
However, as others have mentioned, you could also have a Penguin issue on top of the warning in which case you won't get the full extent of your recovery until another Penguin refresh runs.

Hello Robert,
I will give you a method here that may assist you on the reindex side:
In GWMT go to Health> Fetch as Googlebot
In the url space following the initial domain, put an offending page and then click Fetch
It usually takes less than 5 seconds and you will see "success" with a green check mark followed by a button for Submit to Index. (Given the situation, I highly urge you to click it!
Note: If the entire site is affected, you will want to use URL and Linked pages on submission (you only get ten of these per month) and if not, just that url. (You get 500 Fetches a month).
This should help get you indexed more rapidly. PLEASE do not tell anyone as it is a secret!!
Good Luck,
Robert

Thanks for the 2c.
Keeping my eyes peeled, fingers crossed and working on the good stuff!

Great Video!
As you say, if the manual penalty removal doesn't allow traffic bounce back then I will be looking at any penguin related issues that I need to work on.
At the moment our big focus is on creating high quality unique content for high quality sites. Whilst focussing on all the on page/on site content in our control to make sure everything is up to scratch.
I'll keep you posted.

You just have to be patient here, I have seen sites bounce back in days and others take weeks. If the penalty is revoked, it should bounce back though so just try to hold fire.
The one caveat here is that there have been a whole bunch of updates and I am working with a few sites that seemingly have a manual penalty along with a bunch of panda and penguin issues. We have resolved some of the panda issues and made some improvements, we can still see a bunch of penguin type issues that we are waiting for a data refresh on and we are waiting for a response on the manual thing.
Point being, that you may not bounce back to where you were and it's possible you may have snowballed a few more problems along the way.
So, keep an eye on analytics, wait too see if you have a bounce back and then dig into your site to see if you have penguin or panda issues holding you back as well.
This is worth a quick watch:

Great news!
As they said, give it a month or two and you'll start seeing your rankings improve.
They probably apply these penalties in bulk and then manually review when reconsideration requests come through. Whoever analysed your profile saw nothing majorly wrong so lifted the ban.
My 2c worth.

Penalty
Hi, I wonder if a subdomain gets penalty from Google. Is there any risk that the domain gets penalty?

Recovering from Google Penguin/algorithm penalty?
Anyone think recovery is possible? My site has been in Google limbo for the past 8 months to around a year or so. Like a lot of sites we had seo work done a while sgo and had tons of links that Google now looks down on. I worked with an seo company for a few months now and they seem to agree Penguin is the likely culprit, we are on page 8-10 for keywords that we used to be on page 1 for. Our site is informative and has everything in tact. We deleted whatever links possible and some sites are even hard to find contact information for and some sites want money, I paid a few a couple bucks in hopes maybe it could help the process. Anyway we now have around 600 something domains on disavow file we out up in March-April, with around 100 or 200 added recently as well. If need be a new site could be an option as well but will wait and see if the site can improve on Google with a refresh. Anyone think recovery is possible in a situation like this? Thanks

Which SEO companies offer Penalty analysis?
I'm having a hard time finding a (good) SEO company which specializes itself in Penalty analysis? Any recommendations? I only found Bruce Clay, but they charge 8,000$ :)...

Removing Unnatural Link Penalties
As soon as I began working in my current position at my current company I noticed my predecessor's tendency towards buying link packages from blackhat companies... I knew we were being penalized, and had to prove to him that we needed to halt those campaigns immediately and try our darndest to remove all poison links from the internet. I did convince him and began the process. There was 57% of our backlinks tied to the same anchor phrase with 836 domains linking to the same phrase, same page. Today there are 643 of those links remaining. So I have hit a large number of them, but not nearly enough. So now I am getting messages from Google announcing that our site has been hit with an unnatural link penalty. I haven't really seen the results of this yet in the keywords I am trying to rank for, but fear it will hurt very soon and know that I could be doing better in the meantime. I really don't know what to do next. I've tried the whole "contact the webmasters" technique and maybe have had 1/100 agree to remove our links. They all want money or don't respond.. Do I really need to use this Disavow tool?

Finding out why Bing gave page-level penalty?
In the last couple of weeks Bing has gradually removed 5 webpages of my website from their SERP's. The URL's are totally gone. They all had top 5 rankings and just got removed out of nothing. Have can I investigate what went wrong with these pages? Are here perhaps experts who are willing to investigate this for a fee? How can I restore a page-level penalty? I have no messages in my Bing Webmastertools account.

Help required as difficulty removing Google algorithmic penalty
I am not an SEO expert but I am trying to recover my company's ranking on Google. We are a UK based baby shower company. Been established since 2003. We have used SEO companies a few years ago. On September 28th 2012 our rankings in Google dropped significantly on certain landing pages, others like our baby shower gifts page has remained position 1 for UK Google searches . Bing and Yahoo were unaffected. Searches for baby shower and baby shower decorations has gone from position 1 or 2 (behind wikipedia ) to these 2 landing pages being unranked in Google. I have for the first time ever gone through our back links, tried to locate bad or low quality links, emailed where possible, and set up in webmaster tools a dissavow file ( currently not acted upon by Google). I have also amended the text in the baby shower department so it does not read as keyword stuffed. It has been two and a half months now and sales has dropped significantly and me and the staff are getting very concerned. Our site is www.showermybaby.co.uk . We have not received a manual penalty. Any suggestions or help in removing this Google penalty would be greatly appreciated.

What happens if a company only uses black hat techniques for an extended period of time?
Let's say I were to start a company. Of course, I want to be indexed, crawled, and pulled up in the search engines. So I start using black hat seo techniques. I comment spam, keyword stuff, spin articles, hide text, etc. I publish hundreds of articles per day on well know sites with excellent page rank. If I am doing all of these unethical techniques, what is going to happen to my website?

Is OSE data reliable and removal of malicious inbound links?
I ran a report on my site (www.rentscouter.com) using OSE and it is reporting some very strange inbound links like: anchor text = Megan http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/mmnr/smr/Paul_Henderson_Interview_Full_Clip_REVISED.f4v?m=pc&a=bookmarkList.view&target_user_id=1&search_type=tag&keyword=蒲田・大森・羽田周辺 http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/mmnr/smr/Paul_Henderson_Interview_Full_Clip_REVISED.f4v?m=pc&a=bookmarkList.view&target_user_id=1&search_type=tag&keyword=熱闘!甲子園%2F高校野球ゲーム http://www.hawkeyesports.com/photos/schools/stan/sport/m-baskbl/04-05action/Thumbs.db?pages10=10&size=9?pk=1 anchor text = Alexa's Mom http://www.lg.com/it/products/documents/LE8800.epk?action=view&pageId=214&start=69164 http://www.michigan.gov/documents/techtalk/SEM-0601_191695_7.dot?blogname=mahdid&sub=5&tpl=0 anchor text = http://fansofdavid.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/4v5sh3k1.htm?seccion=busqarag_s&busq=Huesos&?seccion=basearag_c&id=3&?seccion=busqarag_s&busq=Huesos&?seccion=basearag_c&id=3&_pagi_pg=596 However, none of these seem to show up in my Google Webmaster account. And generally when I go to some of these links I can't find any reference to my site - is the OSE data bad or are these really shady links someone is building to knock down my site? What is showing up in GWT are a bunch of growing crappy links that redirect to some advertising site - does anyone know of a way to get these removed by Google as I doubt I'm going have any luck trying to contact the owner(s) of these sites: | http://harleydavidsonjacket.org/article/252213-best_penis_enlargement_methods.htm |

Plus, with a younger site with a thinner link profile - anything like the links above can't be helping me......
