Social Media updating
-
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how SEOMoz records social media statistics. Namely when does SEOMoz record new:
-
Facebook Likes
-
Tweets
-
Facebook Shares
-
Google+ +1's
I was wondering this because for campaigns that I am running the social media statistics displayed on SEOMoz are different to what is actually there.
Thank you for any help.

Thanks Abe - however i am wondering how SEO moz determines these metrics - ie; how does a brand get 30 shares on facebook? How are these recorded? We have clients that we are trying to explain the Open Site explorer results in social section and cannot explain why they have got these 30 shares for example and where they came from. Does that make sense?
Cheers,
Sue

Social in SERPS
Hi Guys, I have seen a lot of page 1 SERP exposure for branded terms due to social links being listed directly underneath the web listing - mainly twitter! I know there was an update to include this in SERPs at the beginning of the year but how do I specify or submit these to Google so my social accounts can too also appear directly under my web page? Does anyone know? Is there a code I need to implement on my site to pull these in? Thanks!

Diving into Social Media...
Hi Our company has a Facebook page - it's pretty outdated and barely used. I want to change that, but wondered if anyone had any advice on how to start it up again? It hasn't been used for a while, so how do you start off with your first post? Or do you act like you have been there the whole time... probably not the best idea. We don't want to confuse people or look stupid with the first post. I want it to be regularly used for content, community building and demonstrating the personality of the company. Thank you 🙂

Can someone clear up social signals as a ranking factor?
I'm aware that Google have addressed this before and specifically said that social signals are not a ranking factor: http://searchenginewatch.com/sew/news/2325343/matt-cutts-facebook-twitter-social-signals-not-part-of-google-search-ranking-algorithms However I came across this (admittedly great) infographic from Neil Patel, an SEO I have a lot of respect for: http://www.quicksprout.com/2014/01/31/how-social-signals-impact-search-engine-rankings/ In the post he specifically states that "both Google and Bing use data from social sites in order to determine how high to rank your website." I have always understood that social signals help drive links by spreading your content to a bigger audience, thereby getting your content in front of people who are likely to link. I also appreciate that content that is shareable is also likely to be linkworthy. However. Neil doesn't talk about correlation here, he talks about social signals as a ranking factor. Is he being misleading, or has the game changed since Matt Cutts said they don't use social signals?

How does knowing SEO benefit a consultant in social media
Hi Mozers I'm in the process of trying to secure a client that requires social media expertise. I want to be able to use my SEO knowledge as a benefit. I am struggling to explain in simple terms how a knowledge of SEO underpins a good Social Media campaign. Does anyone know of any good resources I can work through to communicate this issue effectively?

Wordpress Socialize Plugin giving me 400+ 302s. Should I be concerned?
Looking at my report and saw I had over 400 302s. When I looked where they came from, it seems it's from a plugin called socialize sending stuff to Facebook. Does it matter?

Quick Fire Social Academy
Has anyone heard of Quick Fire Social Academy?? (http://quickfiresocial.com) My boss just signed up for it and wants me to check it out. This the claim their website makes: "In 5 Minutes A Week Or Less You Can Setup A Full Social Media Campaign That's Full Of Red Hot Viral Content !" I went to their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/QuickFireSocial. They only have 7 likes and the page was just created in January of this year, AND I see no Red Hot content on their site. So, I have a few concerns. Is anybody using them? How are the results?

Anyone use the new "Social Settings" in Google Analytics?
In the past couple of months, Google rolled out a tab called "Social Settings" in the Admin area (see image). It's an optional setting, and Google is rather vague about what it does. GA already tracks social in "Traffic Sources," so what is the advantage of using Social Settings? If you've used these new settings, what have your experiences been? Were the settings helpful? Did they completely screw up your analytics? Thanks, Benjamin Ri5bY Ri5bY.jpg

SEO w/o Social Webinair experiment - how can RTs of a URL of a google search possibly affect the position of one of the search results?
I missed the webinair but have just been going through the slides. Looking forward to watching the video when its up. I have a question however regarding the experiment conducted by Rand to find out: Is Social Influencing Primary Algorithms (slides 7 - 20) The suggestion is that an RT of a google search URL affects the ranking of one individual ranking site. The +1 side of the experiment I understand completely - it is clear how Google can see that there is a social preference for the site and reward accordingly. But how would retweeting the search result URL possibly affect its rankings? Is the suggestion that those doing the experiment also clicked on the relevant link? And if so, how is Google discerning that this additional traffic is down to Twitter? I feel I am missing something incredibly obvious. Anyone want to help me out here?... otherwise I'm not going to sleep tonight...
