301 redirect

Guys
Another post by me in regard to a 301 redirect which follows on from this post here
http://www.seomoz.org/q/seomoz-crawl-test
To quickly summarise all i have done is change URL name and done a simple 301 to change name where respective urls form old go to the relevant new pages
Ok Now 14 weeks since we implemented our 301, Originally done In PHP everything looked text book but still 80% down on rankings PR has returned to inner pages Home page has not updated
After some advice from some of the members here i changed the 301 on the old domain name from PHP to Htaccess
This is the code i used on the old server is below
RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.newsite.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]
On the new site the canonical is fixed by PHP , i want to change this to Htaccess, capturing the canonical element along with removing the trailing slash (This is only what has been done in the past so just keeping consistant)
This is the situation
Old site sits on a different server from the new so each have their own individual I.P addresses
I am convinced somewhere in the PHP application we are chaining so want Htaccess on old server to do the 301 and want htaccess on new server to deal with canonical elements and remove trailing slash (if that best practice)
What would be the best way to do this where we wont be chaining 301's
at present all looks perfect and doing what it should, but i know there is an issue and i believe it to be with the php script
Thanks for taking the time to look
Paul
Ps where i had the issue on the old site where Crawl test said page don't exist i now have on the new site if i try and crawl the non www. version of the new site , tested on a site that has the htaccess 301 in place and get the option of crawling the old or the new page so something don't stack up so its not the tool its the PHP
Fetch as Googlebot and every other tool reports the correct header responses

Hi Patrick
Thanks for responding
I still have no rankings 80% down, its 14 weeks since i implemented the 301 and some of the inner pages are ranking (Therese are a lot lower than when we did the 301) however the home page even if i copy a line of text wont bring up my site.
The original 301 went textbook style and everything looked perfect, but rankings did not follow and all we did was a straightforward name change
My developer insisted on doing this in PHP however most his functions and he states when i asked him for the code "The 301 on the new site is integrated into the application and has dependences on other functions, which in turn will have dependences on other functions, which would basically mean handing over a substantial amount of code. Potentially most of the application"
So basically on the outside i am 100% convinced that the 301 is chaining somewhere causing me a problem, so i am going to change both old and new sites for htaccess
I currently have this single line on the old site
RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.newdomain.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]
Originally tried the below but got an internal 500 error (ps any reason why that would give me a internal server error) as below would have been my preferred code
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.com$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.olddomain.com$
RewriteRule (.*)$ http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]I think really what i need is the answer to is what do i put on the old site which is on server 1 is it just a single line 301
and on the new site which is dealing with the canonicals and removal of trailing slash
The original issue came when i changed URL name, and it was only the crawler that brought to light that i could not crawl the non www. version of my site (even though it is the www. version i wanted to crawl because the crawler should have gave a message that the site is 301 to the ww,
. version but it said page unavailable, however doing it on a colleagues site which had been correctly 301'd gave a message that the site had moved do you want to crawl the current or the new page ... so the crawl test will pick up on a 301 if implemented correctly
Hope that made sense

Hi Paul,
I've read this post and your initial post and I'm trying to figure out exactly what you are still having problems with. Is the issue that your rankings/traffic tanked after you implemented the 301 redirects from the non-www version of the site to the www version 3 months ago and you haven't seen any improvement since? Or are you just having issues with the SEOmoz site crawler? It really shouldn't matter if you use PHP or .htaccess for handling redirects since they are both on the server side, so there might be something else causing problems. I wouldn't worry about PR since it's natural for it to take awhile to move over to the new version of the page and plus PR by itself is not all that important anyways.
I'm willing to investigate further if you can provide some more details.

Only 2 Inbound Links which are the Redirect 301 Links
Hello Everyone, We're having a serious Problem with the ranking of our website so we started testing the website in different Tools. Almost all of the tools say our website works great and in comparision to our competitors we win in almost every test – but we rank behind them. The only thing that makes me wonder is the fact that our website has only 2 Inbound links (Open Site Explorer) when the link source is set to only internal. And the only links shown are 2 links that come from the old http (we're using https) and redirect 301 to our https. No other links – in other tools we have around 80 internal links to our rmain https-webadress. Does anyone have an idea where that comes from? I'm afraid this might be our issue in ranking behind of lots of our competitors. Lokking forward to your ideas and suggestions.

How to resolve recurring 302 redirects?
In my Moz site crawl there is a fluctuating number of 302 redirect pages that don't physically exist - most are through a 'compare product' option. The number of 302s varies significantly by how many pages Rogerbot has crawled - the more pages crawled, the higher the number of 302s, so I'm pretty sure it's the 'compare product' that's causing the issue. I can't find a way to remove the compare product button so I need another way to resolve it. I can;t canonicalise the pages as they don't exist as such. Does anyone have any ideas?

How to Check 301 Done Properly on Homepage
Hi All, I posted previously about this, and had some good advice (thanks!)... but not quite sure my problem has been fixed. About a month ago we changed our hosting over, and our dev didn't coordinate to have both versions of our homepage redirected to the same URL. Our crawl showed up with every single page as duplicate content, and our organic traffic has since dropped by over 60%. They have told me that it is fixed as of last Monday, and a redundant error that was appearing in my Google Analytics now says that it has been fixed, but Moz crawled my site 2 days ago and still says everything is duplicate content, and my organic traffic is stressing me out! Any advice on how I can check this is done for myself, rather than trusting these guys haven't messed it up any further? Or is it possible the Moz crawl is a bit slower? Thanks in advance.

Easiest Way to redirect 50 404s spread out randomly over 9400 pages
Hello, I've got about 50 404s I'm hunting down and redirecting (to the home page) on a client's site. There are no on-site links pointing towards most of them, they're just out there floating and indexed by google. I should be more specific - these URLs just pull up as a blank white page with nothing on it. I'm concerned that Google has these indexed and it is causing a problem. They're all Ecommerce category pages where the URL has been changed. site:domain.com is showing 9400 pages. Moz analytics is showing 4 404s Is there any faster way to track down all 50 404s than to manually go through the 9400 URLs in the SERPs after I type in site:domain.com? Thank you.

Redirected pages still sending response code 200
SEO Moz tool reports missing title tags on all the links that have been redirected. E.g. this page: http://www.imoney.my/ms/personal-loan When I check the response code on the page with redirect checker it shows code 200 (page exists). Has it happened to anyone else? How can a redirected page send a 200 code?

Does a url with no trailing slash (/)need A special redirect to the same url with a trailing slash (/)
I recently moved a website to wordpress which the wordpress default includes the trailing slash (/) after ALL urls. My url structure used to look like: www.example.com/blue-widgets Now it looks like: www.example.com/blue-widgets/ Today I checked the urls using Open Site Explorer and below is what I discovered: www.example.com/blue-widgets returned all my links, authority, etc HOWEVER there is a note that says........."Oh Hey! it looks like that URL redirects to www.example.com/blue-widgets/. Would you like to see data for that URL instead?" When I click on the link to THAT URL I get a note that says_.....NO DATA AVAILABLE FOR THIS URL._ Does this mean that www.example.com/blue-widgets/ really has NO DATA? How do I fix this?

I did a redirect and now I'm getting duplication errors.
I was told by SEO Moz to do a redirect so that our website would be crawled with and without the www in front of the address. I did and now I'm getting duplicate page and title errors because the crawler is seeing www.oursitename.com and its underpages and oursitename.com and its underpages and giving me duplicate page content errors and duplicate page title errors. Makes sense, but how do I make it stop? Anyone else have this problem?

301 Permanently Moved Redirect
After completing a crawl of my website: www.getyourphotosonchavas.com I noticed that all of the pages had a 301 Redirect? There is this huge amount of what appears to be corrupted
Moz Pro | | rdominey
data for each of these pages: Please see the attached Crawl report and a test ran from a crawl spider. It looks like each page is a 301 redirect to itself? Can anyone please tell me what all this means? 301-Redirect-crawl.jpg 301-Redirects.jpg0
