Lost all ranking after site-wide 301 redirect
-
Hi all
I did a complete site-wide 310 redirect about 3 weeks ago for a site that had consistently been in Pos 1-5 for my targeted keyword ("low glycemic foods").
I changed the domain from low-glycemic-foods-org to low-glycemic-diet.com because I thought that was a more appropriate title and thru my readings I believed that if I carefully followed the recommended procedures I would quickly regain my SERP.
Webmaster tools is showing that I have over 800 inbound links - many from very trustworthy sources including .edu, etc BUT my home page is nowhere to be found for the keyword search "low glycemic diet".
My Seomoz onpage SEO score is an "A"
Any enlightenment would be much appreciated.

I agree with Irving - you probably want to let Google reindex all of those 301 links, so you might not have a problem at all in a couple of weeks.
It's also possible that "low glycemic foods" is easier to rank for than "low glycemic diet." If you search for "low glycemic foods" in Google, most of the top 10 search results don't actually have that phrase in their page titles or URLs. Since you did, you would have ranked well in comparison. If you search for "low glycemic diet," you can see that the first 6 results (in my personalized view) have the exact phrase "low glycemic diet" in their page title. That's going to make it harder for you to compete with them.
I checked on the search traffic for "low glycemic foods" vs. "low glycemic diet" and found that "low glycemic foods" gets more searches per month than "low glycemic diet." I know that you feel that "low glycemic diet" is more appropriate for your site, but if it's easier to rank for "low glycemic foods" and there are more people searching for "low glycemic foods," I would stick with your original URL.

I have just checked your website , you should do something to get back your rank as quick as it would be.
1- Create high quality backlinks
2- submit you website on relevant directories
3- most important things is do social , Share your website on social networks as much as you can. some of them are
- YouTube
- Google+
- Slideshare
- FourSquare
- StumbleUpon
- Flickr
- Tumblr
- MySpace
Remember, you should share all of your page links .
4- Watch you on-page seo ( titles and ... )
Although It takes time to get back your position , social media , bookmarks and networks can help you to shorten time.

I am just reiterating what many have expressed before on these forums.
1. A percentage of page juice is lost with 301 redirects and you may not have enough page rank to maintain the same ranking positions.
2. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for the engines to process the 301 redirects and you just need to sit tight.
3. Keep checking Bing and Google Webmasters for any error or SEO issues.

301 redirecting to anchor points
A client has just given me a list of redirect URLs as requested of them. However, they're wanting to redirect a bunch of pages to various anchor points within the same page. For example: /pages/about might redirect to: /pages/our-story#our-mission And: /pages/history might redirect to: /pages/our-story#history Is there any problem with this? I've never seen or been asked to redirect like this before.

301 Redirect and Loss of PA and DA
Mozzers, http:itsgr82bme.com Old domain homepage had a DA of 24 and a PA of 36 Currently redirected to http://thekidstime.com Homepage shows a DA of 6 and a PA of 1. That is a significant loss of authority. I thought a 301 is supposed to be better than that. What gives? What are the next steps, asking the old backlinks to update their links? Thanks for your help, Matt

My site lost a lot of traffic in the lastest update - what to do?
Hi all, there seems to have been an algorithm update on February 7. One of my big sites www.poussette.com, lost about 25 % of its organic traffic afterwards and has not revovered yet. What are the best steps to take right now? It is 7 years old we continuously did conservative SEO (technical, link building, adding content). Thanks in advance. Dieter

Pages that did NOT 301 redirect to the new site
Hi, Is there a tool out there that can tell me what pages did NOT 301 redirect to the new sites? I need something rather than going into google.com and typing in site:oldsite.com to see if it's still indexed and if it's not 301 redirecting.. I'm not sure if screaming frog can do that. Thanks.

301 Redirected url to new subdomain, now the rank appears to be completely gone...
In an attempt to not feel bad for not blogging, I set up a new subdomain on my site to have a "coming soon" style page and "best of" section for my blog and video show properties. All the pages on the relaunch subdomain are done in Unbounce. http://relaunch.tommy.ismy.name The idea was that I would then take the pages on my regular domain, and one by one create landing pages that test out new design ideas (instead of going into full production web design) and redirect the traffic from the top ranked pages to the new, redesigned pages. At first, I set up the 301 through a plugin in wordpress and for the first week or so it was great. As far as I know, I did set my canonical tags up properly on that page too. However, just a couple days ago, I wasn't getting the same traffic, and my top ranked keyword that accounts for over half my traffic is nowhere to be found in at least the first 15 pages of search results. Which stinks, because I've maintained that rank for well over 2 years 😞 Clearly, something I did wasn't liked by Google, and I wonder, what did I do "wrong" and is there anything I could do to get that rank back?

Site wide internal links in footer
I have had a long discussion with a client and their external SEO partner about their current footer. They have added all their product categories, both main and sub, to the footer. From a pure SEO perspective is it still advisable, after all the pandas and penguines, to stay away from keyword important site wide footer linking to internal pages? As the links will become a repeatable element and also containing the most important keywords, isn't the links actually hurting more than helping? With 5000 index pages, it will risk "marking" the most important keywords as repeatable, lowering ranking, instead of increasing as their external part say.

Trailing Slash: Lost in Redirection?
Question here, but first the lead in. As you all know, 301 redirects don't pass on 100% of link juice. I've set up my site using htaccess to redirect all non-ww to www and redirect all URLs to have a trailing slash. FYI, the preferred domain is selected in WMT and canonical URLs appear in the head section of all pages. So now what happens when sites that link to mine don't include either the www or the trailing slash, which is actually quite common? Of course, asking the site own to correct the link is ideal, but that's not always possible. So if thousands of links on external sites are linking to http://www.site.com instead of http://www.site.com/, won't lots of link juice get lost in redirection? I can't think of anything more I can do to the URLs to reduce duplicate content and juice dilution. Thoughts? Kevin
