When's Linkscape update going to go live?
-
I've been keeping an eye on the Linkscape update calendar and am a bit confused! There was meant to be an update yesterday, but Open Site Explorer is still showing "Last index update: 8/14/12". When will the new data reach OSE? Been doing lots of link building and want to know if my efforts have been worth it!
Any info greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Alex

That didn't auto-update, but we're working on getting the date updated. The data is good.

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the response. However, the "Last Index Update" on Open Site Explorer is still showing 8/14/12?

Hi Alex! The update happened this afternoon, check out the blog post here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/september-mozscape-update-is-live. We usually have a blog post and announce it on Twitter when it goes live. Thanks for your patience!

OK - thanks Keri. Not a problem, just getting excited!

We did roll out last night, then had other problems so we needed to roll back. We're hoping to release the new index today. We'll tweet when it's up and have a blog post as well.

The new index was live for a couple hours yesterday, then they went down, and back up again, and then went down again ..and now they're back, but with the old index. They'll probably try the new index again.
OSE data hasn't been reliable for the last couple of months. It's getting quite annoying now.

What can be done to regain backlinks dropped (20%) in May 4th Core update?
We have seen two large drops in backlinks (10% drop twice) after the May 4th Google Core update. What can be done to "get them back"? And what is the best way to identify them. We are talking tens of thousands. Any help or insights are greatly appreciated!

Requesting udpate's from old domain to new domain
Hey guys, We had a domain change three years ago now which was redirected. Many of the old domains have not been updated to the new domain. The redirect is in place. I'm just wondering if there would it be a worthwhile exercise to reach out to sites to request an update of the URL link from an SEO perspective? Many thanks Rob

Disavow Links - how do you know if it's worked?
I asked another SEO company to analysis my link structure (as I was too busy!) As I was flat lining on some work I was doing. They said I potentially had an algo penalty and that i need to do a disavow , even though I had no messages from Google saying I had unnatural links. stupidly I agreed to the disavow. Looking at Webmasters tools it seems they've submitted a bunch of links. Since they've done this traffic dropped by 60%, ranking dropped massively. In google Webmasters all the links which are meant to be removed are still showing. How do I know if the actual disavow has been done? And should I do a reconsideration request? Even though Google hadn't flagged an issue ??

What do you do if you have been hit by recent Google updates but cannot remove the links?
We have a potential new client who did their own SEO about 6-7 years ago. They ranked really well for years then obviously recently got hit. Some of the links they have are shocking, directories, articles sites etc. They did not use links farms but the links do not look great at all. The problem is they do not have log ins to remove these links manually themselves. Asking for a reconsideration with Google will not get us anywhere due to more recent link building issues we are trying to resolve. They have sent removal requests at least 10 times to these sites but no response. Has anyone overcome these types of issues previously and can give any tips? This would be a good client for us so keen to see what I can do to get them on-board.

2 links going to same domain but different pages
Hi, How is the link juice distributed when you have 2 links in the same article but they go to different pages on the same domain? I know some say if 2 links go to the same page in an article then only the first link passes juice. Would it be better to have 2 articles each having 1 link or 2 articles each having 2 links?

Is it better to link back to the root domain, or the specific page you're optimizing for?
I'm working on a project our site - building links for iPhone Repair. For the term "iphone repair miami" - is it more ideal to link to the root domain (xxx.com) or to the subpage that is about iPhone Repair (xxx.com/iphone-repair)? I would imagine the latter - but obviously that page has less authority than the root. Thanks!

Do you think it's a good idea to try to find synergy between clients for blog posts/citations/links, or should you keep clients away from each other?
Say you have for example three (in this case) clients, and: Client A sells red widgets Client B is a doctor Client C sellls blue widgets With some research, you find that: Red widgets (A) can make the process of blue widget creation (C) even more effective. Red widgets (A) can protect you from harmful things that doctors (B) are qualified to recommend that you stay away from. Furthermore, there are things that doctors (B) recommend that you do in order to maximize the benefits of red widgets (A) Blue widgets (C) carry with them certain potential health risks, which according to doctors (B) can be minimized using the following means Sometimes blue widgets (C) can be used to effectively repair red widget (A) factories ...and so forth. Sure you're really writing these articles to generate links and exchange authority, and frankly you started with "how can I find synergy between these clients?" rather than a with a great article subject that needed a citation which luckily happened to be another client, but the citations are legitimate and the clients are qualified to speak on the subjects where their expertise and interests overlap. Would you consider going ahead with this? Does anyone have any experience doing it? I could see potential pitfalls if clients were to interact with each other, but keeping yourself as the intermediary might well work and overall it seems like a decent way to grab low-hanging fruit as they say. What do you guys think?
