54 new 404 errors on my website?
-
Hi There
In the latest report I have 54 404-errors. All last week, previously I had 2 404s that I fixed. In report say:
Title404 : ErrorMeta DescriptionTraceback (most recent call last): File "build/bdist.linux- x86_64/egg/downpour/init.py", line 391, in _error failure.raiseException() File "/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site- packages/twisted/python/failure.py", line 370, in raiseException raise self.type, self.value, self.tb Error: 404 Not FoundMeta RobotsNot present/emptyMeta RefreshNot present/empty
Are these normal 404 errors I have to look at and fix?
Or is this some script that running on my server and causing errors?
In general - what should I do to fix this?
Thanks
Dean

Hi Dean,
Thanks for writing in and sorry for the confusion. I logged into your account and checked several of the URLs that are returning a 404 error and they are legitimately pages that are returning a 404 if you go to those URLs. I looked into the referring pages, and it seems that these URLs are being created by the RSS feed on your pages. Since the RSS creates dynamic URLs, those URLs would not consistently exist on the site.
This won't necessarily hurt your SEO, but our crawler will still report any 404s it finds on your site.

I would wait for an SEOmoz team member to respond to be sure, but it sounds like the mozbot was having trouble crawling your site.

Is my 404 page set up correctly?
HI there! In using a few different tools, and I have received varied result concerning my 404 page. In WebSite Auditor from Link Assistant, it says my page is set up incorrectly. My webmaster has told me that it is set up correctly, but at this point I'm not entirely sure what's what. Is there another way to test it? I guess i'm not quite sure about the jargon and what "return 404 response code" actually means. Thanks for your help!

How bad are poor link profiles for a website?
A client has recently switched to us for their SEO and is hugely concerned about their previous company's link building efforts. They say that they have recently removed over 300 links but OSE still lists 160 links. So three questions: How long will it take for OSE to recognise if the links have been removed? How great could the effects of this be on the site's rankings? If we continue to struggle with getting the links removed would Google's disavow tool make much of a difference or are there negatives that sould be considered first?

Keyword analysis - error with difficulty %
Hello everyone! Edge of all, I like and I use very often the "Keyword analysis" tool . However, recently, I have some difficulty to rely on the difficulty % of the keywords I've added. As an example I entered as keywords for a french speaking client, words with a geographical reference. It gives me a percentage too high because I am almost convinced that it would probably not be difficult to work with. My question is: is there any known errors with keywords georeferenced French (google canada - english) and also what to trust when I want proof of the difficulty of a keyword in case of some errors may occur in the tool.

Crawl Diagnostics Error Spike
With the last crawl update to one of my sites there was a huge spike in errors reported. The errors jumped by 16,659 -- majority of which are under the duplicate title and duplicate content category. When I look at the specific issues it seems that the crawler is crawling a ton of blank pages on the sites blog through pagination. The odd thing is that the site has not been updated in a while and prior to this crawl on Jun 4th there were no reports of these blank pages. Is this something that can be an error on the crawler side of things? Any suggestions on next steps would be greatly appreciated. I'm adding an image of the error spike Xovep.jpg?1 Xovep.jpg?1

Wordpress Plugin Causing Mobile Switcher 404 Errors
Hi All, Has anyone seen this 404 error before? I installed a wordpress plugin that would allow users to switch between a mobile and desktop theme. This was about 6 months ago and I thought nothing of it. Since I am new to SeoMoz, I have become aware of this lovely problem. After setting up my campaign, I now have 1600 something 404 errors due to this plugin. It looks like this plugin creates 4 to 5 links for each one of my posts and they all return up as a 404 error. Example: http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/ or http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/?wpmp_switcher=desktop I just noticed this morning in Google Webmaster tools that the errors are starting to show up there. Has anyone seen this? Or know if this is a problem and what to do? zach
