Improving Search Rankings in other Countries for an existing site
-
Hello SEOmoz,
I have a very well respected international client who ranks high in the US and for English language Google search results worldwide. However, the client's foreign language pages for specific countries do not show up on the first page of SERPs in those specific countries.
The foreign nation/language pages are served on the same root domain as the main English language site it this fashion:
Here are my questions:
-
What can we do from an SEO standpoint to improve SERPs in Google.fr or other countries
-
What is the best way to prevent duplicate content errors or prevent the wrong page from being indexed abroad.
-
What are some best practices when using Google Webmaster tools in this regard?
Thanks

If those directories are the multilingual versions of the same English pages, be sure to use the rel="alternative" hreflang tags.
In addition, obtaining links from more local websites would help you rank better in their respective google.tlds
Can't really comment on GWT but I don't think you need to do anything fancy. Just make sure you don't have a specific region targeted (i.e. if you target just USA, it would worsen your international rankings).

Inernational search
Does anyone have any examples of a .co.uk doing ok in the US google searches, we are based in the uk and cannot decide if to try targeting with the .co.uk but with CTR also being a big factor this would be well down with searchers seeing the .co.uk. Are alternative is to gain the .com of our sites and start the process of gaining .com links etc.

Block access to site from everywhere but north america
I have a site that is being attacked very hard by bots, malware, etc. Most of it seems to be originating from Asia and Eastern Europe so I want to block off access to the site to everybody but people in North America. We do not ship out of the country anyways so it really does not need to be seen by people around the world. How can I set this up?

.edu or country TLD, which one would be better?
Hi,we are working right know with an Education Instutition located Outside the U.S. I think they would be in a possition where they could get de .edu TLD. Right know they have good rankings in its own country cause they are working with their country specific TLD, and they rank well there. But, of course, a considerable percentage of their students are foreigners, so they are very interested in improving their interantional rankings (note that U.S is not a target market). I was wondering if it would be ok to recommend them to change to the .edu TLD, because all their competitors have that tld too. Whould that TLD increase their domain authority inmediatly? I know that .edu is well consider by google when it sends you a link, so it would be reasonable to think that having a .edu domain would be great, but as this domain is very related with the US and all their markets are outside the U.S, I am not sure about what recommend them. What do you think?? Thank you!!!

Site Ranking in all countries except USA
Hello, I have a site www.apdermatology.com in is ranking #1 for
International SEO | | element8design
"Dermatologist Chelsea Mi" "Dermatologist Chelsea Michigan" In Google in Canada, UK, Australia, Etc.. But in the USA it is on the 4th+ Page, it has been this way for weeks if not months. And does not seem to come up. I originally thought maybe that google was penalizing the site although, it comes up in all other counties. Does anyone have any recommendations how to resolve this, or what the problem may be? Thanks.0 -
Does Google's algorithm work the same in every country?
I can't help but feel this is a silly question! but does Google algorithm work exactly the same throughout all countries? I run a few sites in the UK and a couple in Spain but can't help but feel that my Spanish sites are harder to rank for. The sites that rank the best are business directories in Spain... whereas here in the UK you'd be lucky to find one on page one..

Targeting Different Countries... One Site or Separate?
I have a client who has 3 ecommerce sites. They are somewhat differentiated but for the most part sell the same stuff. Luckily 2 of them are quite authoritative, old and rank reasonably well. Most of the visitors and sales come from the US. He wants to start targeting Europe, Mexico and Canada. What are your suggestions for doing this? Are we better targeting on the main domains? Not really sure how to do that? Should we use a subdomain and a new store front for each geo? Should we use a .co.uk .co.mx and .co.ca each with a unique storefront? It looks like we are moving to a Magento platform so setting up multiple storefronts on a single database is not a big issue. Anyone have any experience with this?
