Removal request for entire catalog. Can be done without blocking in robots?
-
Bunch of thin content (catalog) pages modified with "follow, noindex" few weeks ago. Site completely re-crawled and related cache shows that these pages were not indexed again. So it's good I suppose
But all of them are still in main Google index and shows up from time to time in SERPs. Will they eventually disappear or we need to submit removal request?Problem is we really don't want to add this pages into robots.txt (they are passing link juice down below to product pages)Thanks!

If your intention is to keep the page for "follow" I would not submit a removal request for the page since that will wipe it off the map. Google needs to crawl your page to know you don't want it indexed.
As I said, Google already re-crawled them and they are not re-indexed. Last cache dates show all is correctly lef out of new indexation.
I guess my concern was how long this pages will stay in index. That was done to make sure Panda will be able to recalculate the value of the site.

Things can take a while, sometimes many months before its not indexed properly. Google also has a disclaimer that it could possibly keep the page indexed for a while.
Also you have to make sure that you do some post things after the removal is made to ensure it never comes back

Do robot.txts permanently affect websites even after they have been removed?
A client has a Wordpress blog to sit alongside their company website. They kept it hidden whilst they were developing what it looked like, keeping it un-searchable by Search Engines. It was still live, but Wordpress put a robots.txt in place. When they were ready they removed the robots.txt by clicking the "allow Search Engines to crawl this site" button. It took a month and a half for their blog to show in Search Engines once the robot.txt was removed. Google is now recognising the site (as a "site:" test has shown) however, it doesn't rank well for anything. This is despite the fact they are targeting keywords with very little organic competition. My question is - could the fact that they developed the site behind a robot.txt (rather than offline) mean the site is permanently affected by the robot.txt in the eyes of the Search Engines, even after that robot.txt has been removed? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on the situation.

Robots.txt anomaly
Hi, I'm monitoring a site thats had a new design relaunch and new robots.txt added. Over the period of a week (since launch) webmaster tools has shown a steadily increasing number of blocked urls (now at 14). In the robots.txt file though theres only 12 lines with the disallow command, could this be occurring because a line in the command could refer to more than one page/url ? They all look like single urls for example: Disallow: /wp-content/plugins
Technical SEO | | Dan-Lawrence
Disallow: /wp-content/cache
Disallow: /wp-content/themes etc, etc And is it normal for webmaster tools reporting of robots.txt blocked urls to steadily increase in number over time, as opposed to being identified straight away ? Thanks in advance for any help/advice/clarity why this may be happening ? Cheers Dan0 -
Has anyone used Micrositez? Or can recommend them?
Hi all, After using SEOmoz for a while (and I have learnt alot - it's a fantastic resource) I think it's about time our website is given the nudge by a professional, who unlike me isn't learning the ropes and trying to compete with the big boys! So easy question, has anyone used/can vouch for http://www.micrositezdigital.co.uk/ I've been in contact with them alot recently and spent hours on the phone. 1 side of me is impressed, the other is scared to death of the monthly price. Any help would be appreciated with this, It would nice to know how good they are especially in regards to their bespoke campaigns. Thanks, Allan

Do you get credit for an external link that points to a page that's being blocked by robots.txt
Hi folks, No one, including me seems to actually know what happens!? To repeat: If site A links to /home.html on site B and site B blocks /home.html in Robots.txt, does site B get credit for that link? Does the link pass PageRank? Will Google still crawl through it? Does the domain get some juice, but not the page? I know there's other ways of doing this properly, but it is interesting no?
