Grade F pages - all first in Google
-
Any anyone explain what value the Grade pages are if, as in my case, I have 9 Grade F pages of which 4 are in first position on Google, 1 is in second and the rest are 4th!
I understand why SEOM might be flagging them as Grade F (keyword use in tags etc), but it seems it must be looking at the wrong clues if it still thinks that its recommendations are the most relevant to improving position.
These are not obscure terms (Spy devices, electronic surveillance, spy systems, surveillance systems) for a UK site (www.spycatcheronline.co.uk)
I appreciate that the points highlighted may need to be addressed, but clearly the pages/site are doing something right to come first - does this not devalue the whole Grade system on SEOM?
Charles.

Thanks for the two quick and thorough responses. The site is about to be re-launched and that will address a lot of the issues regarding on page etc.
It is interesting to read your thoughts (Robert - I think I understood yours a bit more than Donford, but both helpful).

Good question Charles.
First and foremost you have to look at these results in context.
One reason you are ranking is... your competitors are not doing much on page either. (only looked at the one I saw first on the first query and then saw again on second. They are D while you are F on one term.
If you were competing in a vertical against people who were all over their SEO, you would find ranking much more difficult IMO. Yes, it is an opinion, but about the SEO.
If I had a spy equipment client in the UK and put my resources to bear, what would I do based on what I have seen?
First and foremost on-page SEO because - of the ones I looked at - most are not doing any. Of the main competitor I see, they outrank you by one or two and vice versa, but both of you are getting ranked on home page. I would build a spy equipment page that rocked. I would build a surviellance page that exploded. I would build a spy catcher page (didn't see one and thought it was obvious) and I would build pages around each keyword that had the kind of traffic i was interested in. I would also be the king of content and people would flock from near and far just to read what I had written about spying on people (I think someone is watching us...).
With every page, I would have a meta description that speaks to the searcher, correct on page, good links, etc. and all tied to the keywords.
So, again, with the grading tool you have to keep it in context. If you were in an area with thousands of competitors and you did not do quality on page, content, etc., you would find ranking much more problematic.
Hope this clarifies ( and I hope you go smoke your competitors with some major on page, etc.!!)
Robert
Edit: An additional point here - if you did the pages with great on-page, you would have the ability to rank for both urls given the home page is already there.

The Grades are assigned by Keyword & Page.
To save others some time I believe we're talking about Google.co.uk not Google.com
Spy Devices = Your Home Page Rank #4
electronic surveillance = Your Home Page Rank #2
spy systems = Your Home Page Rank #1
surveillance systems = Your Home Page Rank #2Your domain has a high authority and your home page enjoys a nice page authority. This helps you rank well for I would assume a lot of keywords on google.co.uk
Now that said, if you're evaluating a specific page for a specific keyword the grade report expects that the page is optimized for that specific keyword. When you start looking at multiple different keywords for a single page there is no way to optimize perfectly for each one.
This is because you can't put every keyword in the first part of your title, description, use it atleast 4 times on the page, emphasis it with bold or strong tags and give it top location in the h1/h2 tags.
The short, is you can't expect that a page can be perfectly optimized for anything but a single keyword with the grade reporter, by the nature of what it looks at.
Also remember if you were grading a non-homepage on the keywords listed, you actually don't know where Google is returning that page for that keyword because your homepage is more relevant then any other page according to Google.
Hope that helps, and there are some other things I noticed as far as SEO goes on the homepage, but the site looks good and imagine it has done well for you.

Page Authority and Google updates favouring websites with black hat practices ?
Can someone explain how is it that most of the competitors I have online and that rank in first page of the search results almost entirely get links ( in the thousands) and still have higher or equal domain/page authority than mine? I went 1 by 1 checking all their links and they mostly come from sex pages, and non related sites. I say stop creating angry pandas and penguins and start taking out of the game people that just play dirty. Thanks.

Moz vs google data conflict?
Hi there, I am doing an SEO site audit for a client(giveaway, and here is the problem: when performing site:domain.com on google --> 13,800 pages were found When I see this number it seems to be a bit too much compare to the links i checked on integrity(link check for broken links) which gave me a result of 1291. I digged in more into the Google results and saw hundreds(maybe thousands) of pages that are blocked by robots.txt. So I am thinking, ok this is it, thousands of pages can't be crawled by the search engines. Here is the big BUT though, then I check at my moz crawl (see attachment) and no pages are blocked by the SEs, and then look at the dups, only 23 recorded?? Is Moz not crawling properly the 13,800 results that google finds or is this some magical phenomenon happening here? I am really confused here that is why I need some help here! Thank you guys! Help me to know why are all pages not being tracked by the Moz tool for on-page optimization reports?
The On-page Optimization report that the Moz tool shows, is not tracking all the pages from my website. I know this because it isn't showing a ranking for all pages on my website. Is there a particular reason why this is happening? It is important for me to know details of all pages, else it does not give me a comprehensive picture of what's going on in SEO.

On Link Analysis tab I my best pages are 301 and 404 pages.
I looked on my redirrect file and found that /* redirects to /v/404.asp.
Moz Pro | | sbetzen
However if you look below at the link analysis the 404 page is getting a 404 error.
The homepage ecowindchimes.com/ is getting a 301 (but I don't know where it is going to).
The third one is also redirected. 1. [No Data] ecowindchimes.com/ ||| 301 ||| 2 ||| 36 2. 2. [No Data] ecowindchimes.com/v/404.asp ||| 404 ||| 2 ||| 34 3. [No Data] 3. ecowindchimes.com/index.html?lang=en-us&target=d2.html ||| 301 ||| 1 ||| 33 So I have 2 questions: 1) should this be fixed? and 2) how? This is a volusion site and I believe the "catchall" redirect was done by them0 -
Google SERP count 100
I'm not finding a clear solution to getting 100 results in the Google SERP. I'm currently using Firefox as I use Chrome for being logged into Google (Gmail, Docs, etc.) I tried the Grease Monkey script, no luck. I tried appending the url with &num=100 (looks like that may have been killed in 2010 which may explain why the GM script isn't working). And it doesn't look like any toolbar, SEOMoz included has that functionality, any ideas or places to look? In addition, does anyone have a good SERP numbering tool? If I do a search and the first page, including Local & Organic has 15 results, when I click over to the 2nd page it starts back at #11, kind of defeats the purpose of using a numbering tool 😉 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks much!

An error in the SeoMoz On page note?
Hello folks, Whenever I go the OnPage link in SeoMoz some of my links show a F ranking note. And when I click in one of them to see the detail of the page rank, it shows me as an A ranking note. Do you have seen the same problem? Which note shall I rely on? Thanks!!

What the . . ! Duplicate Pages and Titles WAY up?
My duplicate pages went up 50 plus in the past week, and my duplicate page titles went over more then 100. We recently redesigned the website, but it has been up for several weeks now. The only change I made specifically last week or late the week before was to get my 301 redirects done to get the www. version and the non www version pointing to the same place (as well as a couple other sites that point to it). I'm sure this is not enough info to figure out what went wrong . . . I'd love some help in figuring this out though.
