Is Rel=author appropriate for non-article type pages, a.k.a. business websites
-
I understand I can use Rel=author with Google+ for article's I write, and I understand I can use the same code for regular websites, which I'm still waiting to see show up in the SERPs, but my question is as follows...
Is Rel=author appropriate for regular business websites (since we are business owners, not authors of articles), or is there some other Schema.org tag that should be used which will also show our images in the SERPs?
I'd like my business logo to show up in the SERPs for my business page and my personal photo to show up for my blog pages.

You are very welcome Daniel. I agree with Klarke, do both if you can.
-
Thanks Klarke, this is very reassuring to know. I'm going to try both as you suggest and see how it appears. I just setup my Google+ page. I read that Google Plus pages do appear and SEOmoz itself shows up in the SERPs, so I'm assuming it does work. I'll try both as you suggest anyway.

Thanks for sending me in the right direction. I went on to research rel=publisher and found http://www.vervesearch.com/blog/seo/how-to-implement-the-relpublisher-google-authorship-mark-up/ which details the steps and more. I've now setup my Google+ business page and just need to wait for the post card in the mail.

I've been seeing lawyers, doctors, and dentists doing it with authorship directly to their profile pages. It stands out, so why not. Google+ Pages don't display however. But you should link that with rel=publisher. [you can do both]

Hi Daniel. Yes, there is another schema.org tag that is available to businesses and that is rel=publisher. This would accomplish what you are after. But, like you said, most of us who have implemented this mark up are still waiting for Google to do something with it (i.e. display a brand logo next to a listing). Mine is displaying in the Structured Data Testing tool, but not in Google search results, yet. Hope that's helpful!

How do you go about sharing and marketing your articles to get exposure?
Hey Guys, So I have heard about this thing called blogger outreach lately, but I was wondering, what was the point of creating good quality content, if the content can no be found? Is there some sort of way that we would need to go about making the content seen? Sorry about the ignorance around this stuff, I'm completely stuck for how to market our content. I have read through the backlink guide by moz I have also read other articles about blogger outreach. Any advice would be great. Is there some sort of approach that anyone else uses that could shed a bit of light for me. Thanks

Why does our Facebook not show up when searching for our business name?
Our Facebook is titled NJ & PA Personal Injury Attorney Richard P. Console Jr., and the url is Facebook.com/myinjuryattorney, and our website is www.consoleandhollawell.com. Because of the different names, we put social schema on our site which we thought would help Google associate the two. It doesn't seem to be working as we are not showing up in the serp's when searching for "Console & Hollawell Facebook" and even "Richard Console Facebook" Could anyone give any insight as to why? Thank you!

Page Title restructuring
Hey Mozers! Surely you have noticed Google has been randomly restructuring our Page Titles to emphasize branding by placing the company/brand first, as opposed to after the "|" - a convention we had been accustomed to. I am wondering if the aforementioned warrants restructuring our client's (where branding is important) Page Titles as per Google's lead, or simply staying on the sidelines for now and letting Google do it? Anyone care to share their take on this? Thanks! Dino

Google + Brand Page for Multiple Locations
We have had our Google Places pages up and running now for a bit, and we are looking to start our Google + Brand page. What is the best way to handle a Brand page with multiple locations? Create a page for each location so we can connect them to their Places equivalent? Create one overall brand page and not connect it to the Google Places? A lot of the information I am seeing is around a year out of date with Google saying "something is coming" but no updates since then, so how have others in similar situations handled it?

How to leverage blog articles?
"Hello Moz Fans!" I've been writing blogs for our new site (bizinka.com an e-commerce,website design company) and posting links on our social media pages, however as we're in our infancy and so there's limited traffic that comes from social media so I want to know what the best practices and avenues to take in leveraging these blogs? I've heard a lot about article sites such as Ezine holding little weight and there's a lot of forums out there that don't seem to offer much at all in terms of traffic and credibility. Could anyone suggest some sites please?

Do you think my simple design website reflects my product better or worse?
Its been suggested my holiday cottage letting website maybe could do with a professional polish up and maybe restructure and navigation and if it would improve bookings I wouldn't hesitate. My only thought pattern is that this particular website is certainly not high-tech (this website was designed by me in Dreamweaver) I have a great guy working for me which is much better web design than me and technically more capable of producing a professional standard website, but with this new sideline I'm presently a small home-based company currently only letting eight old cottages. My thinking was keep the website simple, personal and homely for the moment. http://www.endeavourcottage.co.uk/ The website tends to be competing against large agencies which have often hundreds of properties on their books and you have to go through their filtering system to find the small number of properties that might be of interest. I can see that if I was selling large quantities of electrical equipment or something similar you just in a very polished well-designed website. The feedback I get from customers is that like the website and they like to know they can get hold of the person behind it. Which direction would you go? polished professional company styled WordPress website or simple design website with lots of pictures and descriptions. If I ever hit the big time and have hundreds of cottages I would have to join the design and more complicated navigation of the other agencies websites but whilst I’m small maybe not? Thanks for reading Alan

Facebook Like my website or fan page??
Should I want people facebook liking my website or my fan page? Is there a way to link the two? Here is my dilemma... People liking my website will obviously have an effect on rankings within bing and google possibly. BUT - People liking my fan page will allow me to engage with them in the future about givaways, sales and so on. I'm stuck, is there a way to link these? Or if not, which do you recommend?

Developing location pages
I need to expand our service offering to another city and focus our SEO efforts to that new location. Would it be best to purchase a new domain name and make a new website very similar to the existing website so we can better target the search engines? Same look and feel as the existing website. Or would it be better to create a landing page for the new location on the existing website to help stengthen the current domain name? If so, how do i focus the SERPs to the new location when the existing website is so focused around my current location?
