Yahoo and Bing, what do they want?
-
My websites rank very well from Google searches, but not so well with Yahoo and Bing. What do these search engines want?
-
Hi Kristopher, ultimately Bing/Yahoo have the same end goal as Google - to give the searcher the highest quality search results so that they continue to use that service. However the methods they use to evaluate the quality of results and achieve this goal do differ. Of course search engine algorithms are something of a "black box", but here are two common beliefs about the differences between Bing/Yahoo and Google:
- Bing probably use SERP CTR and SERP bounce as a ranking factor. It's therefore really important to evaluate meta descriptions and page titles as well as quality of landing pages. http://www.stonetemple.com/search-algorithms-and-bing-webmaster-tools-with-duane-forrester/
- Bing probably puts more focus on social than Google. http://techcrunch.com/2012/10/21/beyond-their-10-blue-links-googles-and-bings-search-strategies-take-different-paths/
Aside from this, major ranking factors on both Google and Bing include inbound links, on-page optimisation, website structure and quality.
Good luck!

Ranking #1 in Bing & DuckDuckGo, not at all for Google - where am I going wrong?
According to the Moz rank checking tool, my blog ranks in the top 3 for my name "James Crowley" on Bing, Yahoo (both in the US and UK), and also DuckDuckGo (though Moz can't tell me that). And yet doesn't rank anywhere for Google. I don't have any penalties, and for other keywords it appears fine on Google. Does this seem strange to you? Am I going wrong somewhere? The blog is https://www.jamescrowley.net/. Many thanks James Nq5uF2al.png

Dmoz: I want to submit but I think the SEO company I was working with already did, how to check this?
Hi Guys, A part from the obvious I have searched Dmoz to see if my company was listed and its still not listed after 8 months. I have 3 top level domains same content, but targeting different countries, can I submit all 3 domains or only one? Any other way to find out if my domain for NZ was approved? I would love to submit the AU,and COM but not sure if I would be going outside their guidelines. Any insight would be much appreciated Thanks

How do I add https version of site to Bing webmaster tools?
I could add my site to Google Webmaster tools with no problems, but when I try to add it in Bing webmaster tools it just redirects me to what I already have. Everything is staying the same but the switch from http to https. Anyone else experienced this? This is what I just received back from Bing and it doesn't seem right- I understand that you switched to the https version of your site and you're now trying to use the Site Move tool. However, in order to do this, you must verify the https version of your site first. You cannot do this because it just redirects you to the dashboard. We thank you for reporting this to us. We've investigated on this matter and can see that you're already put a redirect from the http to the https version of your site. We also checked the /BingSiteAuth.xml file and this also redirects to the https version. At this point, we suggest that you remove the current website (http version) that is verified through Bing Webmaster Tool and add your https domain. When done, use the Site Move tool. Thoughts?

Bing steady, Yahoo dropped
For weeks, Yahoo consistently contributed just over 80% of what I got from Bing. Suddenly for the last two weeks the Yahoo and Bing graphs diverged, with Yahoo traffic dropping to 50% of Bing's. Any ideas? Did Yahoo make any deals with companies to give them better ranking? Have they suddenly started adding more ads above the fold? Any thoughts? Thanks

Need to move highest content pages into a sub-domain and want to minimize the loss of traffic - details inside!
Hi All! So the company that I work for owns two very strong domains in the information security industry. There are two separate sections on each site that draws a ton of long tail SEO traffic. For our corporate site we have a vulnerability database where people search for vulnerabilities to research, and find out how to remediate. On our other website we have an exploit database where people can look up exploits in order to see how to patch an attackers attack path. We are going to move these into a super database under our corporate domain and I want to ensure that we maintain or minimize the traffic loss. The exploit database which is currently on our other domain yields about three quarters of the traffic to the domain. It is obviously OK if that traffic goes directly to this new subdomain. What are my options to keep our search traffic steady for this content? There are thousands and thousands of these vulnerabilities and exploits so it would not make sense to 301 redirect all of them. What are some other options and what would you do?

Has anyone here successfully been accepted into Yahoo News?
I've tried applying a couple times through their form over the last six months with no response. Has anyone here been accepted as a news source, and if so, what did you do? To clarify, I mean accepted into the Yahoo News index (submission form here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/news_global/submitsource.html?from_url=http%3A%2F%2Fhelp.yahoo.com%2Fkb%2Findex%3B_ylt%3DAm2jThOClBnKBsnrNsRjE6a5OSV4%3Fpage%3Dproduct%26amp%3By%3DPROD_NEWS%26amp%3Blocale%3Den_US&last_url=http%3A%2F%2Fhelp.yahoo.com%2Fkb%2Findex%3B_ylt%3DAm2jThOClBnKBsnrNsRjE6a5OSV4%3Fpage%3Dproduct%26amp%3By%3DPROD_NEWS%26amp%3Blocale%3Den_US) We've already been accepted into Google News and Bing News, but not Yahoo News

Yelp, yahoo, local directories..
We are currently in one location and we are moving our office. Would it be better to leave all the directories and add new listings with the new address? This way we get 2 listings until someone in this address claims a business here. or Would it be better to change all the existing to the new address?

Quicksimpleinsurance.com is not getting any visibility in Bing/Yahoo! Any idea why? It's doing alright on Google.
I have a insurance wordpress blog that is not getting any visibility in Bing/Yahoo! It's roughly 2 years old and has been indexed in all three major search engines. It's doing alright in Google and actually showing some promising rankings. But it's nowhere to be seen on Yahoo!/Bing for any insurance related phrases. Any ideas what's wrong?
