Why has one of my keywords dropped over 45 places since last week?
-
Hi one of my keywords is Aquaman Wetsuits and it seems to have dropped over 45 places since the last crawl - how can this be and how can I find out what the problem is?
Thanks

Hi James,
I want to add to what Marcus has said. You should note that Google will throw drastic swings in SERP rankings from time to time. This is usually Google doing some test, it never last long but if you ping the server while something like this is going on, you can see these odd results. I've seen it many times in the years I've been watching our keywords.
We have found it best to watch our keyword rankings over time, and validate any thing that seems off internally.

No worries!

Hi Marcus
Thanks for that - strange how I the SEOmoz rank notification shows it is not in the top 50 for Google and had a large fall - hard to know what is right and what is not!
Thanks for your help

Hey James
I get you in 5th place for that keyword in a Google UK search:
Aquaman - Fitsense Sports
<cite>www.fitsense.co.uk/category/aquaman.html</cite>Aquaman Wetsuits Aquaman Triathlon Wetsuits are used by triathletes around the ... If you swim in an AQUAMAN wetsuit you'll be sure to have a technological ...
You may even get a bit more out of that if you tweaked that page title.
Looks like an error with rank checker or some such, probably nothing to worry about!
Hope that helped!

Hi Marcus
Thanks - the url for the site is www.fitsense.co.uk.
No major link building or SEO - just in house tweaking mainly and no technical problems with the site.
Thanks

Hey James
It is near impossible to help you with this without a bit more information.
-
can you provide a link to the site?
-
can you tell us about any link building or SEO you have been doing?
-
have you had any technical problems with the site?
There is a chance this is nothing to worry about and it will spring back but it could be a whole bunch of other things but without a URL it is going to be pretty much impossible to help.
Post the URL and will do my best to help you.
Marcus

Recent redirect leading to keyword ranking drop
Hey all! Someone I work with recently redirected one of their site pages via Squarespace. They used Squarespace-provided code to make a 301 redirect. Following this, the primary keywords for the page that was redirect to have dropped pretty significantly. Any Squarespace pros out there who can help me figure out what's going on?

Google Webmaster Tools: Keywords
Hi SEOmozzers! I'm the Dr./owner/in-house SEO for my eye care practice. The URL is www.ofallonfamilyeyecare.com. Our practice is in O'Fallon, MO. Since I'm an optometrist, my main keywords are "optometrist o'fallon" and "o'fallon optometrist". As I get more familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools, I've discovered the Keywords that Google feels best represent my website. About a week ago I noted Google counted 21 instances of "optometrist" on the 28-30 pages of my website, which ranks as #32 in the most common keywords. #1 is "eye" with 506 instances. Even though 21 occurrences seemed low, I went though every page adding "optometrist" a couple times in the body where it would naturally be appropriate. I also added it to the address shown on the footer of every page. I changed the top navigation option of "meet Dr. Hegyi" to "our optometrist". I must have added at least 4 occurrences to every page on my site, and submitted for a re-crawl. I even tried to scale back the "eye" occurrences on a few pages. Today I see that Google has re-crawled the site and the keywords have been updated. "Optometrist has DROPPED from #32 to #33. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions why I'm not seeing increased occurrence in Googles eyes? I realize this may not be a big factor in SERPs, but every bit of on-page optimization helps. Or is this too minor of an issue to sweat? Thanks!

Why the rapid drop in Domain Authority?
I couple weeks ago I switched my website from Drupal to a Wordpress CMS: Martial Arts Austin My rankings have remained the same, but the Domain Authority has plummeted from like 29 to 21. I know this is small fry, but I don't want my business to drop in ranking. The URL's were kept exactly the same, with the internal links and copy also kept the same with few additions. Also, according to Open Site Explorer, the site's stronger pages have now averaged out with the weaker and unused pages so they all now share the same Page Authority - that doesn't seem right. Is there reason for concern? Did I screw something up, or am I making too much of this? Thanks

Why googlebot indexing one page, not the other?
Why googlebot indexing one page, not the other in the same conditions? In html sitemap, for example. We have 6 new pages with unique content. Googlebot immediately indexes only 2 pages, and then after sometime the remaining 4 pages. On what parameters the crawler decides to scan or not scan this page?

Front page dropped to PR1 - thoughts?
The front page of our site dropped in late March from PR4 to PR1. Yes, I know toolbar PR isn't terribly reliable, isn't much of an indicator of overall SEO, etc. - however, upper management will want to know what happened and what is being done to fix it. Of course, the answer is obvious: go build links. But what might the cause be? As I mentioned in a past Q&A, the site is entirely encrypted and as a result may be causing us to leak some juice (http backlinks of course make up the vast majority of our links). We're planning to fix this once the site is ported over to a CMS, but that's still months off. Other than that, what might be the problem? Any ideas?

Local results without geotargeted keywords
i'm trying to rank the site appliance-repair-ny.com for the New York City area. I managed to have the site rank pretty good (the site is less than 6 months old) for keyphrases with NYC, New York and Manhattan but i don't understand how to get the site rank higher for the ones without those keywords. For example: Appliance repair NYC - rank 1 Appliance Repair New york - rank 4 Appliance repair (without location) not in results Anyone can help me please? 🙂 Thanks!
