News section of the website (Duplicate Content)
-
Hi Mozers
One of our client wanted to add a NEWS section in to their website. Where they want to share the latest industry news from other news websites. I tried my maximum to understand them about the duplicate content issues. But they want it badly
What I am planning is to add rel=canonical from each single news post to the main source websites
ie,
What you guys think? Does that affect us in any ways?

Hi
Have a look at this very recent Webmaster video from Matt Cutts.
Hope this gives help!

So they want to take news from an external source then paste it on their site?
However, rel canonical is not meant to be used like that. It is for telling Google about a preferred page to deliver within your own domain.
If they want new, they need to take it, re-write it properly and then post it.
However, they could take a headline and a short snippet and then just have the link go straight to the originating source. Still not ideal, but better than trying to host an entire copied article.
However, as Mat said, no-index or using Robots.txt to ensure content doesn't get crawled is an option. There is never any SEO benefit to this though.

If they aren't planning on rewriting the content you could no-index the whole lot.
What do they hope to achieve by doing it?

Duplicate Content
Let's say a blog is publishing original content. Now let's say a second blog steals that original content via bot and publishes it as it's own. Now further assume the original blog doesn't notice this for several years. How much damage could this do to blog A for Google results? Any opinions?

Duplicate content across domains?
Does anyone have suggestions for managing duplicate product/solution website content across domains? (specifically parent/child company domains) Is it advisable to do this? Will it hurt either domain? Any best practices when going down this path?

SEO Audit for a National Section of a Global Website
Hello Moz Community, Very recently I've started working with a national branch of a global company. The way they have their website set up is that you must pick one of the National branches from the main home page. From there, you'll get content related to that country (I'm in a Canada, so naturally, I'm working on the Canadian side). The question I have is more from a URL structure. Because I can only make any influence for the national side, would it make sense to put it on its own subdomain or is this older SEO thinking? Example:

What is considered duplicate content?
Hi, We are working on a product page for bespoke camper vans: http://www.broadlane.co.uk/campervans/vw-campers/bespoke-campers . At the moment there is only one page but we are planning add similar pages for other brands of camper vans. Each page will receive its specifically targeted content however the 'Model choice' cart at the bottom (giving you the choice to select the internal structure of the van) will remain the same across all pages. Will this be considered as duplicate content? And if this is a case, what would be the ideal solution to limit penalty risk: A rel canonical tag seems wrong for this, as there is no original item as such. Would an iFrame around the 'model choice' enable us to isolate the content from being indexed at the same time than the page? Thanks, Celine

Pagination causing duplicate content problems
Hi The pagination on our website www.offonhols.com is causing duplicate content problems. Is the best solution adding add rel=”prev” / “next# to the hrefs As now the pagination links at the bottom of the page are just http://offonhols.com/default.aspx?dp=1

3rd Party hosted whitepapers — bad idea? Duplicate content?
It is common the B2B world to have 3rd parties host your whitepapers for added exposure. Is this a bad practice from an SEO point of view? Is the expectation that the 3rd parties use rel=canonical tags? I doubt most of them do . . .

Duplicate page content query
Hi forum, For some reason I have recently received a large increase in my Duplicate Page Content issues. Currently it says I have over 7,000 duplicate page content errors! For example it says: Sample URLs with this Duplicate Page Content http://dikelli.com.au/accessories/gowns/news.html http://dikelli.com.au/accessories/news.html

http://dikelli.com.au/gallery/dikelli/gowns/gowns/sale_gowns.html However there are no physical links to any of these page on my site and even when I look at my FTP files (I am using Dreamweaver) these directories and files do not exist. Can anyone please tell me why the SEOMOZ crawl is coming up with these errors and how to solve them?0 -
Duplicate content issue
Hi I installed a wiki and a forum to subdomains of one of my sites. The crawl report shows me duplicate content on the forum and on wiki. This will hurt the main site? Or the root domain? the site by the way is clean absolutely from errors. Thanks
