Hello,
How much weight do links from social media carry for seo?
We are trying to develop a social media package for a client and we are unclear as to how much time to dedicate to SM every month and we would like some opinions.
Thanks!

EGOL is right. I think its only a matter of time before thinks built on/thru social media begin to have a greater effect on SEO, but for now it's a terrific way to share content and gain natural links. Google sees all.

Links from social media sites are very often nofollowed so participating there for the "links" is probably not a good use of your time.
However, Google is probably using the social media profile of websites and their content to influence rankings. In last week's Whiteboard Friday Rand looked at the correlation between social media activity and rankings (correlation is not always cause and effect). Check it out... http://www.seomoz.org/blog/correlation-data-for-seo-and-social-media-analysis-part-1-whiteboard-friday
The real value of social media is something that you didn't ask about. That is the ability to rapidly spread the word about content, people and services. To make that happen powerfully you need kickass content, people or services that are worthy of people's "like" or "tweet" or "recommend" or whatever.
Success at social media is not something that can be achieved mechanically. It is achieved by having value or interest that merits the social share.

Google Indexed Images: Website Vs Social Media
I use Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram to post images that are already featured on my website. I have been following a routine of uploading the images to these social media platforms only after I can see Google has indexed the image from my original site. My website is ecommerce and the product images drive sales more than any other factor. The thinking behind my method was that when these images are posted on Pinterest, Twitter and the various Instagram crawler sites (I realise Instagram images aren’t indexed directly), Google would recognise that the image was already attributed to my website. The ‘duplicate’ image would not therefore be indexed and the originally uploaded website image would remain in ‘Google Images’. After completing various searches and reviewing other Q&A’s on Moz, it seems as though this is in no way guaranteed and images reposted on social media platforms may still replace the already indexed image from the website. I am assuming this is because Google views these platforms as more authoritative than mine. I usually change the image by adding logos, text, backgrounds, borders etc before posting on Pinterest and this seems to have worked most of the time (both the original and ‘amended for Pinterest’ versions are often indexed) but images posted on other platforms are usually identical. Does it make sense to continue with my method or am I shooting myself in the foot by reposting these images on social media at all? I obviously want customers searching for products, who then click on an image, to be directed to my site rather than one of my social media pages or worse, an image reposting site. Additionally, If I post images on social media before they are uploaded to my website (for example to tease a product launch), would Google likely class these images as the ‘original’ and therefore be less likely to index the website version of the image once it is uploaded? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Social Media & SEO
Hi Does anyone have any good articles or case studies on how SEO/Social compliment each other? I know the benefits, I just need something tangible to show management, which justifies me spending more time on it. I currently do a lot of onsite SEO, but I know we're missing the content marketing/social media aspect and it's something I want to push. Any help would be great 🙂 Becky

Can I change URL structure and maintain social signals?
I have recently updated an area of our website that had lots of content and some great social signals such as tweets, pins and facebook likes. The URL structure has changed and URLs have been redirected, but I'm wondering if we have now lost all the social signals? No pins, likes etc show on lots of popular content since the URLs have changed. Is there any way to preserve these or are they lost forever? Thanks in advance

How important are social signals to SEO?
How important are social signals to SEO? Are generating social signals a must? It seems every website out there has some sort of social sharing tool installed, everyone is after a like or a tweet. Are we now looking at getting as many likes/tweets etc from real accounts as possible because actually they effect SERP's a lot. Cheers

Very interesting test on social signals, thoughts?
According to this inforgraphic I found on Unbounce, the most powerful social signal is Google-Plus followers followed by Google-Plus votes. Now these results look amazing, so if this test is correct I need to gather 100 business page followers and a shed load of plus votes and I should see big movement in the SERP's? Thoughts? http://www.tastyplacement.com/wp-content/uploads/testing-social-signals.jpg testing-social-signals.jpg
