Duplicate home page /index.asp /index.php etc
-
We recently moved www.devoted2vntage.co.uk to shopify but seem to have multiple home page variants still in google index. I am concerned that these will be causing duplicate content. I have redirected the offending URLs below to www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/ and have set up a canonical URL but need an expect to tell me if I have taken the current steps and if not, exactly what I need to do. www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/index.php www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/index.htm www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/index.html www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/index.shtml www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/index.aspx www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/index.cfm www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/index.pl www.devoted2vintage.co.uk/index.asp

Thats odd. If there are no such URLs they should not longer index automatically.
You can go into WMT - Webmaster Tools and Optimization>Remove URLs. Also resubmit your sitemap if it doesn't get done automatically.
-
We have been on shopify for a couple of months now. What are WMT settings?
-
If you just moved to Shopify, they should not be removed from the index right away. This can take a few days and varies. I would make sure WMT settings are correct and check on how the crawls are doing and if any errors.
The redirects are good and should be fine within days.

Major home page change!
Hi Mozzers, Making a major homepage change on my site Orangeoctop.us. I am going from featuring content to featuring products, similar to how moz and hubspot feature their content on the homepage. Just to give you some numbers, the homepage only sees 2.6% of the total traffic and of that traffic half is direct. The homepage is going to be changed to OrangeOctop.us/guides. My Question: Is there anything that should be added to the homepage to ensure that I keep the same domain authority/page authority?

Blog.yoursite.com or yoursite.com/blog/?
Rand made the following post in 2009. In July of 2013 I question whether this is still best practice. Obviously, much has changed in our industry in four-and-a-half years! "...if you're seeking to maximize your ranking ability for a given piece of content, it's my personal belief that you should, most of the time, keep it on 1 subdomain under 1 root domain (but feel free to use subfolders as it makes sense). Starting a blog? I almost always recommend yoursite.com/blog over blog.yoursite.com. Want to launch a new section of content? Use yoursite.com/newstuff rather than newstuff.yoursite.com." List of products, also on home
What happens with sites that have the complete list of products in the home page and in the "Products" section. Would like to know your opinion as web developers and users and like SEO professionals. I'm in duality like web developer, somehow my subconscience is telling me that is stupid to have it on both places... And the home page is getting nice results and comments from the users, so, would consider quitting the "Products" teaser view. But of course, eliminate the "Products" section is somehow... un natural.... And what happens with SEO, I read somewhere that it's not very good to have all the "rank" spread in so many links in the home page... I don't even understand it completely or neven sure they said rank or juice..., but it's something that is concerning me... We are talking about 20 products, that can grow. I'm looking to have a better SEO, but also the UX is very important, even more than SEO (I know good UX is better SEO). Thanks in advance to any contribution.
